Even if you watch leftwing videos sometimes YouTube just goes “oh you’re a young-ish male who’s into politics? Here’s som nazi vids you’ll like.” ESPECIALLY if the leftwing videos talk about righty’s.
Don’t you want a dominant gene? Anyway, if you want to know more watch: Unnatural Selection, Episode 3. It’s on Netflix and worth a watch, it discusses gene drive in detail.
Ultima Online. This is the OG MMO. It was the Wild West, it had to make all the mistakes because there was no one else really before them to learn from. It was so new and interesting and was a blast the first few years.
If you like retro games it’s definitely worth a try, I actually started playing it last year and I’m loving it! there are lots of free shards(servers) to play on that are only PVM, so you don’t have to work about PKers. Insane UO is where I play, and there are lots of friendly people there to help out the new folks!
i understand that whatever repels them one year, if its used by enough people, attracts them after they get the chance to evolve, a couple years. Could be wrong, but my family in Maine said this happened first with the standard deep woods bug spray, then with a natural oil blend everyone started using.
I would wager a guess that it’s your regular interests. YouTube sees that people who like machining, blacksmithing, etc. have a good chance of also being conservative. You probably are just part of the odd cases where you like those hobbies but aren’t conservative.
Your post raises an interesting point, though: even if YouTube didn’t intend for their algorithm to be a pipeline for radicalism, simply by encouraging engagement and viewership, their algorithm ends up becoming a radicalization pipeline anyways.
This please, I have seen some posted webpages here that are behind a paywall, and I’m on mobile most of the time, so I don’t know a quick way to get rid of that.
I don’t think that there’s a single correct answer for that. Each case is a case; you need to balance how important are your political views vs. centralisation for you, and decide your course of action.
A few highlights:
The difference between a bag of spilling versus putting your eggs in different baskets is just point of view. More comms about the same topic = if one of them goes down, the others still survive.
Users can subscribe to multiple comms with the same topic. That’s what I do with cooking comms, for example - !cooking, !cooking, !food, I’m in all of them, and I (as a user) see no problem with this.
Somewhere down the road I predict that the devs will going to allow users (or perhaps the mods) to “group” comms across instances, to visualise their content together. So the bag of spilling will get better over time.
Remember that comms don’t just abide to the instance rules, they also set up their own rules. If your issue with the instance is that it lacks a specific rule that you feel to be important, you might want to talk with its mods to actively set that rule up.
Based on that I think that the problem is smaller than it looks like. If you don’t like the comm about that topic, for whatever reason (including the instance that it’s hosted on), by all means, create another elsewhere.
Sorry I asked the wrong question. I’ve updated it. My question should have been specific to Threads federation. You can see my clarifie point of view in another comment
On broad strokes my answer is still the same, we need to weight both things. It’s just that in the case of Threads the political factor weights too much, for anyone who cares about the Fediverse, that “build your own comm elsewhere, don’t use Threads or instances federating with it” should be the default answer.
My YouTube recommendations are usually spot on, but I do get Joe Rogan videos sometimes. I could see people sliding into radicalizing garbage easily from there. Rogan’s so big that he gets cool guests, but they’re wasted on him as a host.
You need to learn how to properly prune your feed. I got some of that stuff briefly, but I kept blocking it and choosing not interested and eventually it stops. My feed shows me nothing I dont want now. Its just a matter of shaping it into what you want.
I barely posted on Reddit due to the thought of people hating what I said or posted 😊 I think here is more friendly since it’s not huge, I share what I like and if people don’t agree that’s cool! As long as it makes someone happy it’s worth it ✨
