So uhh, step one: get cholera (it lives on shellfish, and plankton do with this what you will, lick some shells or something)
Step two: ingest cholera
Step three: try not to die

If you have any preparation time, then Psyllium husk (sold as metamucil for one brand example) with lots of water. This would win on sheer volume, HOWEVER, if you take too much then constipation.

Half a spoonful a day with at least 2 cups of water

Perhyte, in Is there a way to make instance-agnostic links?

Once your Lemmy web frontend upgrades to version 0.18, the following should all auto-link with no extra syntax:

  • !community
  • /c/community@server.com
  • /m/community@server.com
  • /u/username@server.com

These should then all link to the instance you're currently on.

Note: because this is implemented in the frontend and does not change the underlying data, other Fediverse clients will not show these the same unless they also implement this themselves.

TomViolence,

Nice, thanks for the info!

bolapara, in How do I stop seeing post from 2 or 3 days ago?

Sort by All->New or Subscribed->New, depending on how many communities you are following. Keep in mind though that Lemmy is still much smaller than Reddit at the moment but it’s getting better by the day.

boogers19,

See, when I do that in Edge(on pc) it updates continuously. Every single post from all across the fediverse (or my subs) starts flooding my feed.

Just starts basically auto-scrolling forcing posts down, forcing pics closed, and Edge starts throwing a fit with "high cpu usage" messages.

bolapara,

Yeah that is annoying. I was mostly speaking about the mobile experience, but what you mentioned is apparently a bug and is known.

JimmyDean, in What would be the best way to protect a room from unwated visitors in a low-tech fantasy world?

Simply put: it stinks, like bad. The room is hidden under the largest city in the land, only accessible by spelunking through vast distances of underground sewers that smell like decomposing waste. This smell-field ensures only the bravest and most dedicated adventurers ever travel to the room, and none who attempt it enjoy talking about it.

abogical, (edited ) in Reddit alts with similar subs?

You can find a list of sub alternatives at sub.rehab

MrLux,

There is also the website Reddit Migration

taladar,

That link is broken for me, I think you mean sub.rehab?

abogical,

That's weird, I removed the link formatting and now it works on Jerboa. But yeah, that's what I meant, Thanks!

OP I don't think this is what they meant when they said "don't be a party pooper"

Arbiter, in What do you feel like life will be like on earth in 100 years?

Man, I’m holding hope for mole people.

Wander, (edited ) in How would you explain to a new user how Lemmy works?

This article is about mastadon instead of lemmy, but that doesnt really matter: https://ianbetteridge.com/2023/06/21/meta-and-mastodon-whats-really-on-peoples-minds/

I especially like this bit:

Mastodon is not a social network, which is where I think John and Dare start from. It’s a set of communities which may, or may not, choose to connect to each other. Those relationships are based on shared values and trust: my instance connects to yours because I trust you to moderate effectively, not allow spam, or whatever other ground rules we can agree on. Some communities choose to apply this loosely, and some more strictly (some communities, for example, won’t federate with others who don’t have the same expectations around moderation for everyone they federate with).

Dirk, in Have you already encountered those new bots on Lemmy?
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

You can hide bot accounts in the settings.

_haha_oh_wow_,
@_haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works avatar

That assumes they were registered as bots, doesn't it?

Dirk,
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

Exactly. If they’re bots but not registered as such, just report them.

Stovetop,

I think the point of these bots is that they try to make themselves appear not like bots in order to steer the direction of discussions. That and upvoting the agendas they want to push and downvoting perspectives they disagree with.

NotSteve_,
@NotSteve_@beehaw.org avatar

These spam bots wouldn't list themselves as bots so that wouldn't work

PrivateNoob, in Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?

I have noticed similar things, just like you. Here are mine:

  1. More respectful, thought-provoking commenters
  2. Being early on a fundamentally different site is cool (federated vs centralized)
  3. In really small sublemmies (Less than 10 posters I guess) I kinda get the small village feeling, where eventually everyone will know eachother, which is kinda wholesome.

I just wanted to say I love your banner and profile picture, what are they from?

PrivateNoob,

Oh, thank you for the compliment! I don't know if they are a specific character from a series or a video game, I just took them from Pinterest. With the banner, I specifically wanted to find a wallpaper that captures a bit of retrowave internet aesthetics.
