108, in I need to survive for 3 days while pooping as much as possible. I can pee as often as I like. It can take up loads of space. What food do I pack?
@108@kbin.social avatar

I too had to go on a trip with people I hate

cwagner, in How did Ikea's Blajah became the symbol of the trans community ?

For those like me, who have never seen it, nor heard of Blajah: https://discuss.tchncs.de/pictrs/image/10454c85-726e-4efc-9b87-3c4c1e0b408c.png

kate,

cwagner,

I’d never have guessed :D

LegendofDragoon,
@LegendofDragoon@kbin.social avatar

If I remember correctly it became such a strong correlation that Ikea actually released/sold a blahaj in the trans flag colors.

lwuy9v5, in So how does lemmy make money?

Worth mentioning:

  • Lemmy itself is an open source software. It's developed by a community, and was originally created by two developers. It does not make money, except from things like donations or patreon.
  • Lemmy instances are run by different members of the community. Various folks have answered ways that instances could make money but may not make money in any ways.
GlowingLantern,
@GlowingLantern@feddit.de avatar

The Lemmy project also receives grants from NLnet (funded by the European Commission), whenever they finish milestone features. According to the developers, this was their main source of funding until very recently and are now asking for more donations.

killick, in What is your opinion about Lemmy not having karma but Kbin having reputation points?
@killick@kbin.social avatar

I don't care for Karma-farming, but I liked having some way to tell if someone was a real community member or a throw-away account. I liked that there were some subreddits that wouldn't let you post if you had low karma because it helped hold back the trolls.

BasicWhiteGirl,
@BasicWhiteGirl@kbin.social avatar

It also deterred real posters, like a lot of overly ruled subs did.

TheChancePants, in Is there a listing of which instance each subreddit moved to?

Not aware of one personally, but my MO has been to just find the one I’m looking for with the most active users and go for it.

Lewistrick, in It would be cool to have Lemmy pen pals. Asklemmy, what are your hobbies and what's your life like?

I keep saying there should be a community for that, but at the same time Lemmy might be too small for that many communities.

Unfortunately I'm not the person you're looking for as a pen pal. Hope you find someone!

lml,

A community can be made of very few people. It just takes a desire to keep it going!

Link69, in It would be cool to have Lemmy pen pals. Asklemmy, what are your hobbies and what's your life like?
@Link69@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a software engineer and as a hobby I organize events and play Super Smash Bros. Melee competitively!

Also I like to travel in Asia and plan to move there probably next year 😁

dominoko, in What is your opinion about Lemmy not having karma but Kbin having reputation points?
@dominoko@kbin.social avatar

I would prefer a platform without karma or reputation. The way reputation works on Kbin isn't great anyway. Downvotes lower it but upvotes don't raise it. My rep is low because most people don't boost.

A karma/rep system can disincentivize participation as well. I don't think it's necessary to keep trolls at bay.

CoderKat,
@CoderKat@kbin.social avatar

The way reputation works on Kbin isn't great anyway.

That's because it has a bug. They changed upvotes from boost -> like to be compatible with Lemmy. The reputation calculation hasn't been updated yet. It probably will be soon. Might even have a PR already.

Trebach,

There's a bug filed but no PR because a decision hasn't been made on how to deal with it.

Aggy,

After reading your comment I realized I didn't know there was a reputation mechanic and what boost even does. Is there a faq somewhere for this type of thing?

dominoko,
@dominoko@kbin.social avatar

I think boost is like a retweet? I'll look around to see if anyone ever explained it all.

ReallyKinda,

From reading an earlier thread, I believe the boost feature makes more sense when you think about federating with Mastadon which has a reblog thing going on. So you’d get a boost to your rep if someone shared your content on mastodon.

Additionally, Kbin is planning to change the rep system to be based on up and down votes instead—it just isn’t a priority right now. Something something check the GitHub for details.

lastrogue,
@lastrogue@kbin.social avatar

I just boosted your comment by clicking boost. No idea what it does but you have a shiny (1) next to boost now.

ReallyKinda,

I upvoted and boosted you arbitrarily because everything is fake anyway!

cwagner, in It would be cool to have Lemmy pen pals. Asklemmy, what are your hobbies and what's your life like?

Late 30s German guy, married a South African. Hobbies are listening to metal and folk rock, watching tv shows and complaining that movies are dumb, selfhosting, and playing CRPGs.

LostCause, in It would be cool to have Lemmy pen pals. Asklemmy, what are your hobbies and what's your life like?

I got ADHD so I enjoy a lot of things, top of them are reading, drawing, writing, learning English and Japanese and various IT/tech tinkering.

I‘m working in SAP, though I see that only as a means to sustain myself and conform, but I refuse to see the work as part of my being or personality. I try to be pleasant and funny IRL, which I‘m told works well, but on the inside I‘m a depressed mess. I try to work on that in therapy, but it‘s not super effective for me. Well it helped a bit, as I now have more of a "try to find joy in little things" attitude, but the doom is still all there.

Online, I‘m mostly to offload some of my darker thoughts on the world, which haunt me if I don‘t let them out occasionally. Reddit was my main outlet for that as it had a large variety of "doomer" subs, now I got unleashed on the fediverse, right now looking for some anti-corporate instance or maybe something anarchist to fit into.

mo_ztt, in What is the best bang-for-buck AI art generator?
@mo_ztt@lemmy.world avatar

I don't know of any that's comparable to Midjourney, although Stable Diffusion is doing a good job at catching up for certain selected subjects.

SHamblingSHapes, in You can have any superpower, but the first person to reply chooses a side effect

Reactive adaptation.

rsfitz6, in What would be the best way to protect a room from unwated visitors in a low-tech fantasy world?
