Duchess, in Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?
@Duchess@lemmy.world avatar

i'd love that personally, i would like to be able to move my entire internet presence to more federated options and youtube is the biggest obstacle for me. i've been using it very regularly since 2007 so it would be difficult but i'd be willing to give it a go

NettoHikari, in What is your opinion about Lemmy not having karma but Kbin having reputation points?
@NettoHikari@social.fossware.space avatar

I never cared about karma points at all. I just said what I was thinking. Only annoying thing on Reddit was when you didn't have any karma at all.

People begin downvoting your post now, because you don't care. lol

Mediocre_Bard, in What do you feel like life will be like on earth in 100 years?

I think that it will be more or less the same, but with more extreme weather and increased military conflict over resources. People will have their devices, corporations will have people working, bad governments will continue to strip wealth away from their citizens. Somehow, I think Norway will be fine, though I am not sure why.

Magic force field ? Or some gaz or magic that disable, give pain or kill when aproaching or entering it, without anybody knowing particularly that "a gaz" is the problem; just that whoever enters get sicks as hell and cannot move anymore

(If want to have a reason why nobody never entered, but your players needs to be able to enter)

Yeah. I'm autistic and so sarcasm can be hard for me to read/express in person, let alone in text form.

effingjoe, in Deleted
@effingjoe@kbin.social avatar

Here is the general guideline for when you need to use a sarcasm tag:

If your comment could be plausibly stated as genuine instead of sarcastic by someone reading your comment, then your comment needs to be denoted as sarcastic.

This is to say, if you're in a group chat with your friends and all of them are like-minded, then typing something sarcastic probably doesn't need a sarcasm tag, since no one in the group chat would plausibly type that comment as genuine. However, if you're in a more-or-less public forum and you type something sarcastically, it becomes far more likely that your comment could be typed out as a genuine stance instead of a sarcastic one, and therefore it is wise to make it clear that you are not one of those people.

It is possible, even in 2023, to craft a comment that is so obviously sarcastic that it does not need a sarcasm tag even when posted in public, but this is pretty rare-- most people are typing stuff that could easily be typed genuinely.

Sooperstition, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

Everything about this is fantastic. This level of shitposting is exactly what the fediverse needs

ethane,

This level of shitposting? So... no-shit posting?

Troll, in How do pre-reddit influx lemmy members feel?
@Troll@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve been here since the beginning of 2020, a few weeks ago I was regretting that this project wasn’t very popular so now I’m delighted to see this craze for Lemmy/Kbin and federated tools in general. I hope it will continue, welcome to all ^_^/ Power to the people.

Jakylla, in What's the mob policy on Emojis here on the fediverse?
@Jakylla@sh.itjust.works avatar

Please put emojis or pictures in your posts & comments ! (But please also avoid 4k sized pictues, most of lemmy instances have bad CSS (displaying nicely things) for the moment)

Xylinna, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

I wonder if doing a colon cleanse beforehand help? Similar to what people do before a colonoscopy.

Also, it is an odd request but I’m now fully vested in your post to see what others suggest.

Caboose,

My thoughts as well.

238 g of Miralax mixed into 2 L of flavored sports drink. Drink all of it over the course of 24 hours at least 24 hours before the event.

Then immodium 2 mg twice daily to maintain a poop free existence.

Warning: this WILL work but also runs the risk of damaging your GI tract of maintained for too long.

zelifcam,
@zelifcam@lemmy.world avatar

There you go. Give the kid who doesn’t understand the basics of the human body advice on how to colon cleanse a day before the trip. I’m sure it will turn out just fine.

MyMulligan, in What would be the best way to protect a room from unwated visitors in a low-tech fantasy world?
@MyMulligan@lemmy.one avatar

Magic can McGuffin any answer you need but it sounds like you want a non magic means to keep people away.

Have a guarded door, be it creature or armed guards. The room that is guarded is not the real room, just a place to hold private meetings. It's used on the regular to keep the focus on the guarded room.

The real room is in the town's bizarre. It's passed by all of the time and is curated by the most hated man. No one likes going to his shop. He's rude and his wares are over priced. Within his shop is the real room that is visited by the few who know.

Barbarian, in What's the mob policy on Emojis here on the fediverse?
@Barbarian@sh.itjust.works avatar

This is a pretty bizarre question to me personally.

First of all, we don't have to do anything. If you mean you were wondering if people will lynch you for using emojis, no clue. Try it and find out.

Second of all, the whole "build my personality to fit in" is exactly backwards. The whole point of the fediverse, instances, etc is that you find a community to fit you, not the other way around.

Third of all, this isn't Reddit with tens of thousands of comments making anything more than a "yes" or "no" irrelevant. People actually have the time and space to consider things and answer them more fully here when there's less spam.

Finally, the whole idea of a "mob policy" sounds concerning.

InEnduringGrowStrong,

Unrelated noob question, on my end I see your full user: @Barbarian're on different instances, fine.
But there's other people from sh.itjust.works in this thread and it only shows the first half of their handle, like Jakylla and Bernie Ecclestoned.

My guess is they have a display name setup and you don't?

Barbarian,
@Barbarian@sh.itjust.works avatar

My guess is they have a display name setup and you don’t?

Yup! That's exactly what's happening. I intentionally haven't set one up, because gotta rep my home instance :P

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

Makes sense.
I even have an account on yours already and is actually the first one I made.
Choosing an instance has been the most awkward part yet. More easily accessible info on instances' admins, hosting situation, funding, etc. might help.

My first visit was very confusing because I tried browsing a community that had just defederated us, which really isn't too obvious as a noob. I registered on lemm.ee to see what beehaw was even about, and I'm going back and forth between the two homes trying to choose.

I very much like the /c/agora idea on sh.itjust.works so I'm definitely sticking around.
I think an important part is getting to know your instance's admin as a person, and I haven't really taken the time to do that.
See ya around

Barbarian,
@Barbarian@sh.itjust.works avatar

Completely agree. Funding and hosting situation are still very much in flux for most instances, and most instances are so new that admins haven't really had the time to figure out exactly how they want to run and organise things yet. Everything is very much in flux.

These are problems I think will go away naturally as things stabilize and clearer community identities, fundraising methods and organizational norms start forming.

InEnduringGrowStrong,

Second of all, the whole “build my personality to fit in” is exactly backwards.

Yea, I feel like the fediverse is what we make of it. Trying to fake it for a social net sounds sad.
If OP likes emoji, emoji away 🚀🌕
I think your take is a good one even outside of social media.
Be yourself! (Assuming you're not a serial killer I guess)

notacat,

Based on how well the post was written contrasted with their claimed lack of thought processes I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was half tongue in cheek. But also I agree with not answering just yes or no.

Biff, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

This is like some bizzaro 90's sitcom. "Quick, I need your help to not poop for 3 days! No time to explain!"
