For video, I think the best you’re likely to get is embedded players from popular video hosts. The costs and challenges of hosting video content are just not worth it for the people hosting the instances.
GIF as a format is garbage. Terrible compression, poor quality, and weird quirks. They’re so bad that most platforms that host GIFs are just transparently converting them to MP4 videos because they actually take up fewer resources. If they get added the only way I see it happening is as extremely short form video with strict file size limits.
If I’m being honest though I don’t miss ithem at all.
In addition the colours matching the trans pride flag, I’ve heard people suggest that it’s because trans people (like sharks) are significantly less dangerous than the media portrays
On here, for pretty much every opinion you can find someone who supports it. Sarcasm can really only be understood by people who know you, as they can compare it against what you usually say and do. The pure text form makes it even harder to understand sarcasm, as it removes any cues in your voice or facial expression.
It might somewhat ruin the joke, but in an environment like this, you have to be blunt if you want people to understamd you're being sarcastic, for example by adding a tag like "/s".
Yea, sarcasm’s contextual. Unless the joke’s about some opinion directly contradicting the community you’re posting in, it’s not safe to leave /s-less.
The John Oliver stuff is happening on Reddit, though. That's where the attention is, that's where his face is being plastered everywhere. It really has nothing to do with anything here.
It's all people who don't want to bebherr, sending the message that they don't want over there to change.
Plus he's probably heard of Reddit, but not Lemmy, kbin, or the Fediverse. And he has no dog in
I said this in another comment, but this AMA should not be about reddit at all. In fact, we only bring up reddit to the effect of asking how he felt about his pictures. If we make this a regular AMA about his regular life, it would show lemmy to be a viable alternative to reddit. He doesn't know anything about lemmy other than that it's an alternative to reddit where people control the platform.
Doubt nobody will ask his opinions about Reddit though.
Don't get me wrong, he's a great guest, but he's a bit too big for Lemmy right now. He has probably a very busy schedule, and can't take a couple hours off just to chat with a dozen people.
A single tweet from him will take far less time and get 100x more views.
