Pretty sure that is resolved in the next update, you can try to browse without a login from the lemmy.ml instance, they're using a pre-release version of the next version :)
I haven't eaten fibre for a while to prepare for this. I don't mind severe constipation but i just need to get through those 3 days without pooping. Also not going on a hike idk why everyone is assuming that. Anyways, thanks.
CW: Homphobia. I've only seen one thread attacked by a bot so far. It repeatedly posted a loooong homophobic comment pretending to be a thoughtful and objective analysis of why gay men have lower life expectancy due to being "sExuaL" and apparently "DiSeAsEd". It posted the same comment multiple times in the thread and responded to multiple comments including its own with the same comment over and over again. Not super jazzed to see that crap here, hoping we can avoid a botpocalypse on the Fediverse.
I had to remember where I blocked that "user", it was over on my Kbin account. Here is the user if anyone wants to preview them and preemptively block them: https://kbin.social/u/dickusmungus/comments
No problem! I went back and looked through the comments and posts again and now I'm uncertain if it is actually a bot or just a really sick person acting like one. Either way, I've blocked them. I was on a thread about cookies missing chocolate chips of all places for that nonsense to show up.
It actually seems like a person when I looked but still the behaviour seems worthy of a block just to avoid that first 5 seconds of confusion if you stuble upon a comment.
Downvoting bot spam actually does help. Good UX should hide unconstructive comments anyway. Will there be trash? Yes, but it's more or less under control on Reddit because of user voting effects.
The real danger is in letting bots vote more than letting them comment or post. We're safe as long as humans can outvote the bots... but will that status quo continue? That’s our biggest existential risk.
I find it a lot more like old forums, and there is a loooooot less ragebait (post about Matt Walsh and his piss fetish, Tim pool and his homoerotic fascism, etc).
It’s very refreshing and I find myself spending less time on here (searching for interesting content) but more time engaging (instead of lurking)
I like that I can block entire communities. Never gonna see those weird people that obsess over certain public figures, positively or negatively, again 😍
But that’s the thing, on R no matter what you blocked they still pop up in other feeds…so many “news”, meme etc. featuing those shits and here…nada. My thoughts are most of thier shit is bot driven, so here it wont get traction (yet) and if they do its easily avoided!
Fennec is even better than Firefox, it's the same source but recompiled to allow all add-ons in the main app. So basically a stable Firefox nightly, if you wish.
It's maintained by the folks behind the f-droid app store themselves, so arguably a highly trusted source.
Sync to Firefox desktop fully implemented and working.
Supposedly its got more security/privacy/anti-tracking. From what i can tell there is no major differences besides it using this configuration user.js by default
One thing that rings alarm bells for me is that they have a built-in adblocker, but you can enable Brave's ads instead and get a cryptocurrency reward. Brave takes 30% cut on the ads they show this way, so they are essentially replacing the website's monetization with their own monetization. Kind of scummy, and it being a cryptocurrency also looks grifty.
For one thing, Brave's CEO is an antivax conspiracionist. The browser itself is also not that great in the first place. Better than chrome itself, sure, but still miles behind Edge or Vivaldi (to speak only about Chromium based browsers).
What speaks for you against uploading your content there? When users start using platforms and others realize that they work well, they will follow their example. I think that's more effective than making a call to use a platform.
