Flaky, in Where do you go on Lemmy for reliable news and politics?
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I don’t really use social media for that, to be honest. I just get info from my friends, but if I seek out news myself I’ll usually just check the BBC, free news that has to be as impartial as possible. Maybe the Financial Times is alright too, but they paywall their articles and they’re more intended for investors than the average person.

Yawweee877h444, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

YES.

And it seems I’m in the minority as well. I enjoy my workout during, but I think it’s mostly psychological. This is doing either weights or cardio. For weights, the pump is key, and addictive, which is not specifically psychological.

I think the psychological part has something to do with the accomplishment of getting the workout in, and looking forward to the feeling or “high” afterwards which is noticeable to me.

Also regular workouts make me feel better generally throughout the week, on a regular basis. Very noticeable if I stop for weeks at a time, and I miss it.

jjjalljs, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I enjoy a nice bike ride.

YouShutYoMouf, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

FWIW my yard would be full of mosquitos if we did not have a mosquito service treat it every 3-4 weeks. It’s not a big yard, and my neighbors don’t treat their yards. The mosquitos still stay out of our yard though.

Point is it can be done. Whatever the Mosquito businesses do - works. Hire one of you have the money to spend or try to figure out what the professionals do.

Half the battle is getting rid of water. Every few days walk around and pour out anything that collects rainwater.

DoWotJohn, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

You have to do it long enough to where it becomes a habit. Once you hit that point, you won’t feel as good mentally and physically when you don’t work out. It took over three years for the habit to come about with me, but now I work out 6 day’s a week and appreciate it. I also enjoy the changes it’s made in body.

UnverifiedAPK, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

So I’ve found there’s two different ‘pleasure’ experiences:

One is during the workout where you disassociate and just feel your muscles working. In running this is usually called a “runner’s high”, and in weightlifting it’s typically refered to “lifting heavy thing make me happy” / “Big rock make sad voices go away”

Then there’s the after-workout where you just feel your muscle exhausted as you relax and it’s extremely satisfying. You know you’re getting stronger and the workout will be easier next time.

Both of these feelings take a few weeks to start, you’ll have to get results from your workout and then your mind and body will start rewarding you with dopamine for doing a good job. (Although some days working out still sucks ass though and is both tiring and a chore, that part doesn’t go away it’s just easier to ignore).

Moonguide,

That “big rock make sad voices go away” bit had me hollering ngl. Very relatable.

KrisKao, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

In the region where I leave it would be impossible to not have mosquitoes around, the conditions are just good for them, but I have an electric zapper that is shaped like a tennis racquet and I can zap them as soon as I see them inside the house. I also do the chemical fumigation now and then, but for the most part I use the electric zapper. It is very common in countries and regions where mosquitoes are a pest.

Venutianxspring, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

I keep bouncing between this one and Jerboa. I like Liftoff a little more, as it’s easier to handle multiple instances and accounts, but I wish that it had mod tools so I wouldn’t have to go my communities in the browser or PC to do anything mod related.

FarLine99,

As time will go on I am confident that mod tools will appear.

FrankTheHealer, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Vanity, marketing and buying shit unnecessarily.

I have a Fairphone 3 that I got in January 2020. Its a great device. I want to using it daily for between 5 to 10 years. And I have no doubt it will do that.

Meanwhile my brother has bought 3 Samsung devices in that time. And each one still works fine. He doesn’t need a new phone each time but he will still insist on it.

cyberpunk007,

How’s the camera on this phone? Really the only thing I care about, next to battery life

FrankTheHealer,

The camera on the Fairphone 3 is only okay. But there is an upgraded camera module you can buy from Fairphone.

I’m not much of a photographer so it doesn’t bother me. But if you take a lot of pictures, it’s something to keep in mind.

mp3, in Is there an instance to request the creation of new instances?

You can create one, and as soon as the ball starts to roll you can ask if someone wants to take over and become the mod.
