Yeah, the current thinking is just to have the one magazine for now unless people have good reasons why that won’t work. Of course a lot depends on whether there are any active bugs federating between the two systems but I think right now things are copacetic.
Theories about the origin of copacetic abound, but the facts about the word’s history are scant: it appears to have arisen in African-American slang in the southern U.S., possibly as early as the 1880s, with earliest known evidence of it in print dating only to 1919.

An Americanism first recorded in 1915–20; of obscure origin;

Stephen Goranson says "there is good reason to think that Irving Bacheller invented the word [with spelling “copasetic”] for a fictional character with a private vocabulary in his best-selling and later-serialized 1919 book about Abraham Lincoln in Illinois, A Man for the Ages, and its currency increased by use in the 1920 song “At the New Jump Steady Ball”.[1] Alternatively, it has been speculated that it may have originated among African Americans in the Southern US in the late 19th or early 20th century, perhaps specifically in the jargon of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, who certainly helped popularize it in any case.
Also, hashtags in kbin posts are recognised by mastodon/mblogs? At the moment, they’re not from lemmy (don’t know why). So posting out from kbin might also help in getting traction with the mastodon/mblog crowd.
One problem lemmy/kbin have at the moment for activism, is that smaller communities can get drowned out in the feed. You can of course sort by “New”, or “Hot” but might miss things, unless you’re actively checking the specific community. Same problem with mblogs too I guess.
Something interesting in the works in this regard is a Lemmy pull request to add “Best” as a feed sorting option, which ranks posts relative to their communities, and therefore should make communities equal on your feed. (See Pull Request). It isn’t finished yet but might not be far away.
Not sure about the hashtags, good question. There will also be separate posts on Mastodon – here’s an early example, guaging awareness – and it’ll be interesting to see what gets traction where
I have technically logged into my account – but only because I’ve opened Relay Pro. In spite of everything, it appears to still update everything, and the last app patch update message I saw said that they had implemented changes to reduce API usage (this after July 1).
But I haven’t interacted with reddit beyond that, and I don’t plan to. It’s not about anger at reddit anymore either – I actively like Lemmy better. It reminds me of old reddit.
I was in a “troubled youth” cult for many years. “Unhelpful advise” is an understatement compared to the heaps of fear-driven doctrines and rituals we had to follow, lest be homeless. I could go on for days about this topic, but the biggest “unhelpful advice” was to cut all of my childhood friends from my life completely, on the basis of “my own good.” I am now a virtual stranger to them, and although I’ve somewhat made amends, nothing will ever make up for our lost years.
I have always lurked Reddit, I have never made an account. With Lemmy, I contribute instead of lurk as I feel I have a part to play in it’s early growth for it to succeed. But that being said, I occasionally check the front page and a few specific subreddits but not quite as frequently since I joined Lemmy.
Oh, and when I do, I use LibReddit to view reddit, so nothing even official.
Gamepass and Minecraft Bedrock mostly. Gamepass is something that I use a lot that will never work with Linux, and my friend group is split between console and PC for Minecraft so Bedrock edition works best for us. I still use SteamOS on my Steam Deck and enjoy it, but switching operating systems on my main computer just to play games is a bit excessive
Video games for one. Hated the UI (only thing I’ve ever hated worse was the BS Windows pulled with 8, which I skipped). The GUI experience just felt… Like a very distant after thought. Only reason I use Linux at all is on servers (homelab) because… Well the cost is spot on and once I get it working I don’t have to deal with it anymore.
Which distros have you tried? I was given Ubuntu and thought I hated Linux. It turns out that I just hated the UI, and some other distros were actually ok.
Temu is just driving the social media impulse “buy buy buy you need it buy it now!!” Culture when in reality their stuff is crap, and even for the cheap prices… You probably weren’t going to buy it anyway. They are really striving in being a shitty company that’s bad for us and the planet.
Good video here that explains more of how they’re just manipulating us to buy more: youtu.be/7hGD5Cz_now
TikTok and them just fuel each other to create fake fomo and it’s so crappy. They target kids so hard and take advantage of them wanting to fit in, and get them to just spend money on crap they didn’t need to buy anyway. Not to mention they’ve pushed fashion cycles to be faster to make people think that top they bought 2 months ago is useless and should be thrown out.
Some things on Temu are complete trash but some are really good for the cash. They have a HUGE range of pin badges for less than a dollar, I’ve seen some of the more expensive ones ($2) sold for $10+ on other marketplaces like Amazon.
Just check nsfw but images hosted by Reddit that are NSFW are slow to load and seem to have been slow for quite a while, so my rate at which I check it tapered from few times a day to now once or twice a month
