Metafalls_, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

Our (almost)entire company missed our flight back home during teambuilding event

johnlsullivan2,

That’s amazing and embarrassing haha

Metafalls_,

It really is lol

We are energy beings with no flesh and blood. We can take whatever form we desire. Food, water, and oxygen are not required, but still enjoyed if you want. We can create and destroy our own reality by just willing it so. We are not imprisoned by spacetime. We are completely free and immortal. You must be invited I to anothers reality. Once there you have no power to create or destroy in the host reality. You can leave the host reality at any time. You seek out benevolent host realities and can exist in your own simultaneously. We are highly intelligent, wise, and experience much wider and deeper emotions than humans. We have any sensor we desire, nothing is hidden from us, other than others’ internal and external realities if not invited.

I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, so I’ve always thought it would be kick ass if I could upload my conciousness to the net and become an immortal living meme.

ButtholeAnnihilator, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

My flight got canceled out of O’Hare once, they changed my connecting flight’s gate and it happened to be the same one my final flight was leaving from so there was no way I’d make it on. There wasn’t another flight until the following evening so they comped me a hotel and gave me some meal vouchers. When I walked into the hotel I was greeted by hundreds of furries. The Midwest Furfest was going on at the convention center nearby.

greatwhitebuffalo41,
@greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net avatar

Ahh I see they put you in Rosemont. Not a furry, was just don’t work for public works a few days ago and they were talking about that convention.

PlexSheep, in What does an ideal world look like to you?

To add to some that the others said: A world federation.

After the European Union eventually grew together to the European federation, many nations pushed to cooperate against worldwide problems. This eventually resulted in the continuous strengthening of the United Nations. Over time, nationality became more and more meaningless until eventually the point was reached that any of us only consider themselves part of the United Nations of earth. At last, humanity united.

angstylittlecatboy, in What anime world would you rather not live in?

The worst world of the ones I’ve watched is probably Rebuild of Evangelion, particularly if it’s during 3.0. Any Eva except for post-3.0+1.0 is pretty bad, but Rebuild 3.0 is probably the worst.

I’d say Psycho-Pass would be the worst I’ve heard of, but I’ve never actually watched that.

Honestly most shows that aren’t either in the slice of life genre or have the action hidden from normal people would suck to live in as a normal person. Even relatively light-hearted Dragon Ball would be a downgrade.

corefoundation, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

Hope everything turns well for you.

Here’s my story:

Didn’t get any email that the flight time was changed to 3 hours earlier.

App on the watch told me that I should go to the airport as soon as I woke up, but I ignored it.

When we got to the airport we didn’t see our flight on the screen. We went to the counter and got strange faces from staff. “Sir your flight departed 2h ago”.

After 10 minutes of waiting with not much information we get a flight that’s departing in 20 minutes for no extra cost.

It wasn’t a direct flight like the missed one, but we arrived to our final destination an hour later than initially planned.

I checked how could I avoid this in the future and noticed that the pdf with boarding pass had the updated flight time, but the email that included this boarding pass had wrong time. Booked via kiwi because airlines website had troubles with charging my credit card for some reason.

Dutch East India Company - The original corporate raiders.

MASS ATROCITIES!

jossbo,

They are the Bug Bad Evil in my pirate themed DnD campaign. Or a proxy of them at least. What better justification for becoming a pirate than them? To quote a real pirate captain from the 1700, “They rob the poor under cover of law, we plunder the rich under the cover of our own courage.”

greatwhitebuffalo41,
@greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net avatar

That’s a 10/10 quote

mohKohn,

came here to say this. though if American slave traders had actually been a unified corporation I'd be pointing at them.

And no. 2 is The British East India Company

JoeClu,

Yea I probably got them mixed up. The British one is what I meant. It’s probably number 1?

Antiques,

No lol you are right, the Dutch one was worse

Kolanaki, in What anime world would you rather not live in?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I wouldn’t want to live in the Dragonball Z world.

Every time they fight the villain and destroy the world then use the dragon balls to wish everyone back to life would infuriate me to no end when they could have just wished the bad guy to stop existing/never existed/wasn’t fucking evil and not have anyone die in the first place.

“JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, GOKU! I’m so tired of dying every few months because you gotta fight some motherfucker! You know it hurts right? You’ve fucking died. You know!”

Double_A,
@Double_A@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I think the lore was that the dragon can’t stop things that are stronger than itself. But I guess it e.g. could have broken the Sayans capsules so they would just choke in space ._.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

This is true, but when in the series they state this clearly seems like it was added due to criticisms like mine haha

luthis, (edited ) in What's the worst company ever. Period.

Bayer. They knowingly sold HIV infected blood to Latin America after the blood was rejected in Europe. This still blows my mind. Some corporate waste of oxygen actually decided to do this. It wasn’t an accident. That guy needs to get stabbed with thousands ten fucking thousand of AIDS needles.

The fuck man

Viking_Hippie,

They also bought Monsanto and, if anything, ramped up the evil from THAT murderous shitshow!

Why am I suddenly thinking about Norm Macdonald and Hitler? 😉

cwagner,

Because by 1944 they used around 4500 forced labourers (foreigners, POWs) in dangerous condition. Oh, and they apparently bought 170 female prisoners, who then all died during some experiment:

A Bayer employee wrote to Rudolf Höss, the Auschwitz commandant: “The transport of 150 women arrived in good condition. However, we were unable to obtain conclusive results because they died during the experiments. We would kindly request that you send us another group of women to the same number and at the same price.”

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer#World_War_II_and_the_…

Viking_Hippie,

I was actually thinking of Norm Macdonald’s catchphrase “the more I hear about that Hitler fellow, the less I like him!” but yeah, that’s heinous as fuck too 😬

cwagner,

Hah, poor guy, because I never heard of him before, and he was mentioned in the same breath as Hitler, I thought he has to be some pretty shady dude, but otherwise ignored that part :D

Viking_Hippie,

Quite the opposite, actually: he was a great comedian known for his deadpan delivery of the most outrageous things 😁

Here he is affably roasting the fuck out of people 😄

Did a little bit of digging on that one, before being bought by Bayer, the Cutter biological division was responsible for another pharmaceutical disaster. They accidentally (?) sold 120 000 doses of polio vaccines containing the live polio virus.

andrew,

They also acquired and still run the business previously done by Monsanto known for things like agent orange and eliminating corn biodiversity. Their legal department is also infamous for bankrupting small farmers.

Pretty much just Australia if it perfected itself to its potential, equalised out a bit better and stopped trying to be a mini America. Maybe a few less spiders.

The next day, 9/11 happened. Not that it would’ve gotten me killed, but man… it was a freaky thing.

Haui, in How much resources does Lemmy need?
@Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Hi there! I pretty much have the same question. Probably also a question for the selfhosted sub if it already arrived here.

I‘m thinking of hosting a lemmy instance, peertube and a minecraft server, the latter of which are very resource intensive and I‘m told I should look for „dedicated“ vcpus. Which drives the cost up considerably.

Looking at hetzner rn but 3 vpus (1 for minecraft, 1 for peertube, 1 for everything else) is quite steep imo.

Are you considering the dedicated part yet?

Good luck :)
