A crowd pleasing karaoke song!

whyrat,

I’ve never seen these flop at kareoke (if done with average competency):

Jump around - cypress hill gang

I will survive - Gloria Gaynor

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Billy Jean - Michael Jackson (many other covers)

Shake it off - Taylor Swift

Pick 1 of the above plus a Beatles song and you’re good for impromptu Kareoke.

If you have a few days notice and a friend to plan with the options expand…

checkymander,

I tried Bohemian Rhapsody once at karaoke, realized quick that I did not have the range for that song.

@pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yeah, that one definitely flopped when I tried it.

HobbitFoot,

I’ve got Sir Mixalot’s “I like big butts” on lock

qjkxbmwvz,

Given that you cannot lie, this must be true.

klemptor,

I once chose Paradise By The Dashboard Light for karaoke and that was the only time I’ve ever done karaoke because I’m still embarrassed ten years later at how awful a choice it was. Great song, terrible for karaoke.

Candelestine, in What do you use Vaseline for?

It’s good for knuckles that crack and bleed in the winter. Lotion isn’t really good enough unless you’re applying it multiple times a day.

fiat_lux,

Same, and also for the tip of my nose. Windy weather with low humidity makes the tip of my nose itch like crazy. Normal moisturiser helps remove the itch but it absorbs too quickly to work as a protective measure, so an extra coat of Vaseline stops the area drying out again as quickly.

Simple recipe formulas that are scalable

HobbitFoot,

1 Stick of Butter 2 Egg Yolks 3 Tbsp of Lemon Juice

bigfish,

Baker’s ratios make my family think I’m a much better baker than I am.

Basic risen bread (a “60% hydration bread” ): 100 parts by weight of flour, 60-70 parts liquid, 3 parts salt, 2 parts yeast. Use grams and scale it up by 5 (500g flour), use water or beer for the liquid, knead, let rise for an hour or so, shape, rest for 30min, then bake at 400F for about an hour or until the inside is around 190-200F, and LET IT COOL to sub-120F before you cut in. Or if you’re feeling fancy, use scalded and cooled milk, add 5-10 parts sugar, and swap out 10-20 parts of the liquid for melted but not hot butter - and you get a nice rich bread, half way to a brioche. Or go to 70-75 parts liquid, including some olive oil, and kneed for a long time, and you got a solid pizza dough.

Quick breads: 2 parts flour, 2 parts liquid (including sugar), 1 part beaten egg, 1 part fat (oil or melted butter). This gives you a jumping if point for banana breads, pancakes, muffins, and scones. Add or withhold a little liquid to get the consistency you want for how you’re cooking it.

If you haven’t tried it. Based on what you listed. I think you will also like Father Ted.

TrenchcoatFullofBats,

The Good Place was really, really good.

From Derek and his wind chimes to “the wave was just a different way for the water to be, for a little while.”

This is a support question and isn’t something we cover in this community. Please see the sidebar for suggestions on where you can find support.

joshinator, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I think the main difficulty with Linux desktops is this “all or nothing” approach to the OS.

Recently got a Steam Deck and most of the games really just work, but that’s a handheld where I play solo. On desktop I mostly play online with friends.
I really don’t want to constantly switch OS depending on the anticheat situation when we play something else.
And then there is software (fusion360, simhub) & hardware (3d mouse, joysticks, ffb wheel, maybe VR?) that just works on Windows.

So instead of maintaining Windows & Linux on dualboot I just stick with Windows on the desktop.
And I used Linux for a long time on my laptop (and can’t wait to ditch MacOS), still use it on servers, but the desktop is just a whole different beast.

jamiehs,

Well said. I’m in a similar situation with the Sim Racing stuff. Also my daughter plays Genshin Impact and my son is just getting into StarCraft 2;

SC2 works flawlessly under Proton apparently, but Genshin not so much (anti-cheat stuff it seems). So if you share a gaming PC the question becomes even trickier to answer.

freeman,

This is very close to where I’m at.

I could see using Linux as a daily driver for work and flipping to windows for games if work had a stipend or Byod option. But otherwise I seem to tend to stick to one or the other.

That said I do keep a Linux distro on my laptop mainly for gimp and kdenlive for making videos from my drone recordings for a buddy.

roostopher, in Best options for Non-Google cloud storage as of 2022?

One thing to keep in mind with something like Syncthing is where the physical location of the other machine(s) is. The nice thing about cloud storage is that your data is in an entirely different geographic region, so if there’s a hurricane, flood, fire, etc. your data is still safe. That being said, I use Google drive at the moment so I’ll also be keeping an eye on this post for alternatives.

PeachMan,
@PeachMan@lemmy.one avatar

Right, if you’re relying on self-hosted storage you need an offsite backup. Backblaze is cheap.

WigglingWalrus,

Similar boat to you. The “perk” of using Google Drive, is that I use it for everything else so it keeps everything in the same place for me.

Back to the Future. It has been my “watch when I’m sick at home” go-to since I was 12.

Schnitzeltier, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Quite simple: When using Linux, I tend to play around, try different stuff, switch distros every couple of month… When using Windows or MACOS, I just use it as is and don’t try to break stuff. And while I could use Linux quite easily without breaking it, my inner child prevents me from using it this way…
