ajjlyman, in Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?

You could… but it’s singly not setup for that. There are blog softwares out there that support activitypub-- I have no experience with it, but microblog.pub was nativity designed as an activitypub blog. There’s also a WordPress plugin that’s basically official (maintained by the company that owns WordPress.com) and has known good integration to at least mastodon, so I would assume it works well with lemmy, peertube, etc, since AFAICT, mastodon is the most opinionated of them when it comes to activitypub conformance.

kezza596, in Have you ever had a hyper realistic dream that you still remember after years?

Two.

Once I dreamt I was stabbed, and I can still feel the sensation of a blade tearing my flesh, despite having never had more than a nick.

Plus a super real, super long dream that spanned decades. I lived an entire other life. I grew up with a best friend either named Emma, or Emily. I saw her every day. We grew up together, had families alongside each other, lived our entire lives. I still miss her, despite the fact that she never existed.

LemmyRefugee,

Emma or Emily. That’s the most realistic part, as I also struggle to remember the name of my best friends when I was growing up.

javidoom, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Nope. I uninstalled boost and no come back.

son_named_bort, in What goes good with American Cheese?

If you do get American cheese, get some from the deli, it’s much better than Kraft.

makuus,

Even better: If the deli has Cooper Cheese, get that.

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

It fascinates me that you guys would have this stuff in a deli!

It's also not called "American cheese" in my country (NZ).

It's called "processed cheese" and strongly associated with children's lunches, so most of it is packaged to appeal to children.

lazylion_ca,

Processed cheese is not cheese. It’s rubber that won’t hold air. It’s cheese product. The only acceptable use for processed cheese slices is throwing at your little brother. I wouldn’t even feed those to a dog.

Hazzia,

I like the not-so-subtle implication that your little brother is lesser to a dog.

Dinodicchellathicc,

All cheese is valid. Even swiss

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

It's kind of almost like a confectionary.

BeMoreCareful,

This comment makes me want to huck imported cheese at you.

I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like.

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

I didn't say I don't like it! It's just not a deli food here.

I have met a cheese I didn't like, once. It was rubbery and tasted like soap. Unfortunately I had a kilo of it to get through.

Hazzia,

You know, I had Mozzerella that tasted strongly of soap before. I looked it up and apparently some chesses can start to do that after some variable amount of time due to some sort of chemical process. It would be worth checking if that cheese was supposed to taste like soap, or if it was going through the same issue I experienced.

If you’re wondering, yes I still ate it, like hell am I going to waste mozz that I paid for

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

That's so interesting; I didn't know about that!

It definitely wasn't supposed to taste like soap, it was a standard 1kg block of cheddar, which is pretty much a staple food.

I still ate it too. Hey, we're both still alive.

TheRealKuni,

Kraft’s Deli-style is pretty good, too (comes in a pre-sliced block, like what restaurants use for burgers). Just don’t get the Kraft singles, which aren’t nearly as good in flavor or consistency.

allmond226, in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

Yeah 90% is just the memes community because its so big, memes are a big part why i joined reddit and now lemmy, but it’s just to much, i want variety at my feed!

Especially with the retro memes thing going on, I found it funny like the first 10 post, but it’s getting on my nerves already. I wonder what people that came here just now have to think

Mythril,

I look forward to when “multireddits” are implemented in Lemmy, I used that feature all the time on Reddit.

Although it’d still be an issue that the smaller communities are simply lacking in activity in general, I guess.

I do like talking to myself IRL too, but there’s a limit to even that lol

lagomorphlecture,

I didn’t use that on Reddit but it seems like it would be more useful here since basically the same community can pop up multiple times on different instances.

allmond226,

sadly i don’t think it’s coming soon, i looked at github, there you can open a “issue” (feature ideas, bugs). One of the rules is no multiple issues, so searched if someone requested it and there is one about mutireddits thats chilling there since 2020 and another from 2021

dm21,

We could vote/comment on the existing issue to potentially get it on a priority list

omgarm,

I have kinda solved this accidentally. I have accounts on multiple instances. One them has no filters and the other one has all meme communities blocked and nsfw turned off. Now if I load all@lemmy.world I see everything, but all@feddit.nl is a nicely trimmed feed.

This works well if you use Liftoff on android at least.

CorbinDallas, in What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

Sounds a bit like Malaysia, where the “The Yang di-Pertuan Agong [the constitutional monarch] is elected by the Conference of Rulers, comprising the nine rulers of the Malay states, with the office de facto rotated between them, making Malaysia one of the world’s few elective monarchies.”

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yang_di-Pertuan_Agong

effingjoe, in What's the first dream you remember having?
@effingjoe@kbin.social avatar

I was very young, 4 or 5, and I was taking a nap in the afternoon. In my dream my mom told me she would only ever make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner for the rest of my life. I liked spaghetti and meatballs, but I didn't want to eat only that forever. My grandmother woke me up because I was crying in my sleep.

This is my earliest memory.

MigratingtoLemmy, in How do other Europeans survive the raining season in Asia?

With the heat waves in Europe right now, I don’t think the other side has it any better.

I think you mean summer, rather than monsoon. And yes, it is quite humid in comparison. I never got used to it, I always sweat like a pig in the summer, without exception. As you figured out, the trick is to stay indoors.

jeena,
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

Yeah I guess monsoon is the wrong word but it’s basically raining for weeks.

unknowing8343, in "Timed Mute" or equivalent for communities..?

This is not the community for asking these questions. Read the guidelines.

Feel free to report this stuff, too - it’ll get it on our radar faster.

indigomirage,

What’s the best practice for deleting a post? It was in error - just don’t know a way to delete it.

Blaze,
@Blaze@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Indeed, it does not respect the guidelines

Kichae,

The guidelines, they be bein' ignarrrrrred

eggshappedegg, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I kept spending insane amounts of time trying to make simple things work, that should work without me having to make them do so.

200cc,

Such as? Most of things work on linux too

zephyrvs, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

srans, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

I have two that keep finding their way to be relevant. “smooth seas never made a skilled sailor” and “dont break anything you cant fix”

codenul, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Theres two -

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” - Dr. Seuss

And a recent one - “Your life starts where your comfort zone ends”

Blumpkinhead,

The second one makes me uncomfortable.

Iliveonsaturdays,

I know it’s a joke and I appreciate the meaning of the original comment, but I don’t think you need to constantly challenge yourself to enjoy life. Sometimes it’s ok to sit back and enjoy what you have and what you know. Just as long as you don’t settle and forget to be open to new things that could enrich that life.

ShroOmeric,

About the second one, I’d rather follow Pascal who said something like:

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

dudebro,

Both fantastic.

VirtualAlias, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Comparison is the thief of joy.

dudebro,

That’s good.
