BNC is the one. No idea how this response is that far down and people are saying stuff like “USB-C”. I guess people have no experience with the wonder that is a BNC connector…
For me personally, I never saw too many powermod-driven issues on Reddit (not that they didn’t occur, just that I didn’t experience them in the communities in which I participated).
One solution was to create a fork; lots of “r/actual___” or “r/true___” communities were born this way. To Little8Lost’s point, I think this will be even easier on Lemmy.
I’ve been permanently banned from the League of Legends subreddit for saying a team that had caught Covid wouldn’t die because they’re young and vaccinated. In a post about them having caught Covid. And in response to someone calling it a fatal disease (which it can be for some, but really isn’t if you’re 20, vaccinated, and otherwise healthy).
Though dying may be lower risk for them people could still feel long standing effects from it. Though those are also less likely given they were vaccinated.
I looked up my exact quote, which isn’t perfect, but a permanent ban seems kind of crazy.
It’s not really lethal if you’re vaccinated, especially if you’re young.
I wouldn’t downplay long Covid. And if I had to do it again, I’d change some things. But saying that once in an appropriate thread seems pretty innocuous to me.
A lot of those community forks on Reddit were more related to the original communities growing too fast and then losing the original feeling than to powermods too (not all though).
Bread with cheese (and almost whatever else you might put in there). Wrap it in foil and it will be ready to eat whenever.
Cold pasta with cheese - or even normal pasta with tomato sauce cold is great. My Italian friends eat this for lunch regularly.
Cold pizza slices are great - I normally make simple pizza using baguettes and tomato sauce (passata) with cheese. One baguette is enough to make pizza for my family of 4.
Pasta salad - pasta cooked and cooked and then salad of your choice - even cold cuts of meat to well in here and it’s economical to make a huge amount and put it in the fridge
Actually thinking about it, I eat a lot of lunches made from cold leftovers and I think they taste brilliant without having to heat them up. Obviously things like soup, or ramen noodles and other hot liquid meals don’t taste good at all cold.

You don't have to have them cold - just get a flask!
There are many good affordable flasks on the market today, OP might even have one already, but they might need more than one.
In the flask you can not only put things like soup or even pasta with sauce, but also just boiled water which you can later pour in to a pot noodle and have a fresh one of those! Or a hot cup of something (tea, coffee, cocoa), made with the water in the flask, or in their own flask! The options are endless.
If they have access to a microwave/hob in the morning they could even pre cook some hot dogs or other protein (meat or plant based) that would fit in, dump it in along with a preheated tin of sweetcorn or peas and maybe even tinned potatoes, some seasoning (a tab of butter/margarine like hotels serve would do wonders), then keep it warm in there for the rest of the day.
Another alternative if they really want hot food would be one of those thermal bags, but in my experience they don't do as good a job at keeping things hot (warm maybe, but nothing more).
Right, but you also have examples like r/politics where white supremacists publications are whitelisted as legit sources because at least some of the power mods were fascists and there is nothing anyone can do. No recourse whatsoever.
I like moderation and appreciate moderators, but it’s definitely a problem on Reddit.
You‘re absolutely correct imo! But the reason for white supremacists (i.e.) being able to seize power is users being unwilling or unable to stand up for themselves or others.
On reddit (same as here I assume) users can demand mods being removed from subs and new ones instated instead.
The ultimate escalation is making a counter sub with a close enough name and just doing better. That and informing, posting about the issues will massively improve the situation.
It is the fundamental problem with democracy. It is fragile as people need to actively keep it alive since power hungry people will always abuse and undermine it.
Organizing, sharing and keeping your own ego in check in the process is very hard but the ultimate democratic task imo.
Because it is easy to think of all our own ideas to be best but they rarely are. We should concentrate on those we know are better and find others to help with theirs.
TL;DR: Evil powers rely ok the indifference/lethargy of the masses. Work towards positive change
I was a mod for a unpopular opinion sub aimed at unpopular political opinions. It was as bad as you could imagine. At most I’d only have one or so posts a month that i didn’t have to remove.
One of the best friends I’ve ever had banned me from one of his subs because I was fucking with him as a prank of sorts
The guy poured his time and energy into making any sub he was associated with being as relaxed, friendly, and free of bullshit as possible.
And the dude got death threats.
Reddit ran off the best mods, the ones that really cared. Most of those came here.
Most mods are like him, they’re trying to help build something good, and keep it that way. Even the ones that wield the ban hammer often tend to only do so for disruptive assholes like me.
Tfw you’re an Dutchy and simple home-prepaired sandwitches (read two slices of bread with some butter and cheese between them, nothing fancy), are the countries national breackfast and lunch. Warm food is for dinner traditionally 🤣.
Either way, sandwitches (no need to limit to peanut butter, a lot can be put on bread!), salads (pasta or normal), fruit, veggie, cheese, and certain type of meat (like smoked or dried sausage, or beef). They all make great parts for cold meals you can keep in your bag till lunch (speaking from experience). Some cheese & meat are even packed per small packages for easy take along as snack usage.
I would suggest you do go to restaurants a few times, just to try the local cuisine (or their variation of other cuisines). But it probably will be expensive for you indeed. Whenever I’m in Asia, I feel rich (and I’m really not). Even Japan, who is often said to be expensive, is cheaper than my country. Especially when it comes to food.
It’s a Wonderful Life. Every year on Christmas, and every year I can relate with George just a little bit more. I’ve even seen a stage version of it love!
Gangs of Wasseypur. It’s a 5-hour movie, split into two parts. But really, it’s just one epic story. I’ve watched it countless number of times. While in college, me and my mates would get high and watch this movie. I’ve probably watched it with most of my friends at least once.
Two other movies that come close are Pulp Fiction and Bhooter Bhobishyot.
