Chatgpt sub is more expensive than just their api. I use their api with shell gpt, it costs me less than 1$ per month with my usage.
Learn linux of course.
Download data dump of stack overflow, wiki, etc. Set up software to search through it, for example “codesearch”, maybe there is something better. This guarantees independence from bot infected search results.
That’s a setup for a decade, maybe then local LLMs will be smoothed out and reliable enough to use daily.
Depending on the make and model of your Android phone, you might be able to use GrapheneOS which will vastly improve your situation. Use it together with privacy respecting apps and you’ll be a long way towards reclaiming your mobile privacy. You can also buy Android phones that are pre-configured with Graphene on them on ebay but you are obviously a running a risk.
Desktop/laptop you will need to move to Linux. Mint is (in my opinion) a very good option if you’re new to Linux as it is privacy respecting and looks/acts in a very Windows type way. Like most Linux distributions, you can even try it without installing it by downloading and burning an ISO to a USB pen/stick drive. Here’s a YT tutorial on doing that (also covers going on to install Mint).
Switch browsers to Firefox and install uBlockOrigin, LibRedirect and Firefox Multi Containers add-ons. Switch to a privacy friendly search engine such as DuckDuckGo, Startpage or a SearX instance.
Migrate your email to an encrypted privacy respecting provider such as Tuta (recently changed their name from Tutanota) and stop using things like OneDrive or Dropbox, instead use a service like ProtonDrive or Filen.
Use a decent VPN like Mullvad on all your devices. This not only protects your ISP from seeing what you’re doing it also means you’re using their DNS, which you can configure to block trackers, adverts and a few other things (at DNS level, you’ll still need uBlockOrigin in your browser). It doesn’t offer as much control as PiHole or AdGuard but it’s a lot less complicated to set up.
Donut Media during the 350z hi car/low car thing was really good, but feels like they are just repeating the same content over and over now without getting much useful/interesting info now.
Scotty has the most clickbait titles. “If you have a car you will REGRET this ONE SIMPLE TRICK and DESTROY YOUR ENGINE” (video is about winter octane stabilizers or something completely mundane)
Yeah they sort of follow the same trajectory. I do like DeMuro still but it really depends on the car he’s reviewing for how interested I am. Leno is also decent and I prefer his car content to anything he did on late night or comedy-wise. He has that professionalism as a presenter and has so much money that he can just buy like a Merlin engine or have anything he wants to professionally restored. Really cool to see some of that stuff.
Check out Garbage Time. It’s a channel about an Aussie and his mechanic buddy repairing old, shitty cars. Many of the cars are Australian specific too.
Sam Hyde/MDE, some hilarious stuff before Trump then they just became boring political trigger/shock humor. He has this weird feud with Heidecker alleging he convinced Adult Swim to cancel his show which Tim denies as ridiculous. Hyde can be hilarious but he ruins it with sincere right wing politics and trying to be as offensive as he can for the sake of it.
I agree with you here. I stumbled onto his video maybe 5 years ago or so and some of them were so bizarre and hilarious, and to find out now he’s deep in the alt-right, cryptofacist nutjob space is so disappointing.
The TEDx talk is absolute gold, “my dream is to teach Javascript to African children.” Considering he’s given money directly to Daily Stormer he’s just openly fascist at this point.
That’s exactly the one that came to mind first. He was able to cast a light on the self aggrandizing TED and TEDx talks that are so often full of hot air. It’s a really shame that so many fall into that pit of fascism and can never come out.
Casualty of Trump for sure, seems like he was just the right age and identity to get wrapped up in it and it sort of fed into his brand of comedy. Wish these guys could rip on liberals without going fascist or becoming sincerely right wing.
Yes that’s rightt, you’re reading this in Chef John’s voice now. Not only do I cook, which is my life’s passion, and probably my second favorite thing to do, but I also tell jokes, because let’s face it, it’s a perfect opportunity to perfect my comedy routine.
Yeah it’s called uptalk, I didn’t like it as much at first but now I really do and its such a signature style for the youtubes. Totally suits his appearance as well.
I lost my dad to cancer about two week before last Christmas. And my birthday is a few days after Christmas as well. I'll be damned if I ever feel like celebrating Christmas or my birthday ever again
I lost my sister suddenly 2 days before Christmas in 2008. The joy came back — after a fair amount of therapy and contemplation — and over time, life grew around the gaping hole.
A couple of quotes that I keep near me:
Yet, in a bizarre, backwards way, death is the light by which the shadow of all of life’s meaning is measured. Without death, everything would feel inconsequential, all experience arbitrary, all metrics and values suddenly zero.
Mark Manson
When you dull pain and hide it from yourself, you dull your joys as well.
Robin Hobb, Fool’s Fate (Tawny Man #3)
All the best for this holiday season, and all the ones that follow.
Gotta have opposites, light and dark and dark and light, in painting. It’s like in life. Gotta have a little sadness once in awhile so you know when the good times come. I’m waiting on the good times now.
I think you can use AI for creative things that convey a message. Isn’t that what it’s all about? For example with memes: stock photos are often used for these, which in themselves probably don’t have much to do with art or creativity. However, if you put them in a different context by adding something to the stock material, interesting, creative and funny things can emerge. This also seems possible to me with an AI-generated image instead of a stock photo.
