Stern, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?
@Stern@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve blocked the AI art communities and tend to downvote the art when it shows up as it feels soulless most of the time.

Moghul, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

No, but I dislike the trends. I don’t want 8 pictures of sailor moon or axolotls doing various jobs or depicted as various characters. One is fine.

solrize, in You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?

I don’t understand the premise. Do I keep my older memories and experience? So if I take it at age 21, I become a 1yo with the knowledge of a college student? Do I also get to repeat having the memory and learning speed that little kids have? It might be worth considering.

mirtuevagnet, in Traffic Engineering: a help from Italy

In addition to what was mentioned already, read Door to Door, and use this famous constant (by an Italian!) as a counter argument if the function of the road/project is to solve traffic.

If you really want to feel out: Braess’s Paradox.

yayapapapa, (edited ) in Traffic Engineering: a help from Italy

These are more “urbanism” themed channels but they do dive into traffic engineering regularly, check out:

Varyk, in Q re: New Yorker. Article online vs print?

Not all New York times articles are also in print, you can use usually check the header or footer or some data on the page that tells you whether or not the online article was printed

Kolanaki, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Good Mythical Morning has been around since before YouTube even existed and they still put out good shit. Even more so, with the GM Kitchen stuff (which I actually like more; those guys are fun as hell).

nomous,

I loved GMM until every episode became a food episode. I’m trying to watch what I eat and every episode being a food tier-list or guess-where-the-food-is-from really turned me off.

I still like the guys and their staff. I listen to Ear Biscuits and catch the longer-form stuff they’re experimenting with but I no longer watch GMM/GMMore daily.

Evotech, in You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?

Is give it to my wife when we were 50 :)

NigelFrobisher, in What is it that makes a grand piano sound better than an upright piano?

Money.

ch00f, in What is your best story when you were in a foreign country?

My mom’s friend was nearly pickpocketed in front of the Trevi Fountain by a man with two thumbs on his right hand. My mom caught him with his hand in her purse and made a big scene. He ran away.

I was 11 years old and had my camera out and ready and it kills me that I didn’t get a photo of his hand.

Akasazh,
@Akasazh@feddit.nl avatar

It might have been an ai generated pickpocket

OceanSoap,
ch00f,

Heh, my thought too, but it wasn’t like an extra pinky. He had two thumbs stacked on top of each other. I don’t know where they joined, but I could see the pad of one thumb on top of the nail of the other.

athos77,

Was his name Count Rugen, the Six-Fingered Man?

GlendatheGayWitch, in What prevents you from going to bed early?

I’m a night owl, which means I have to be exhausted to sleep earlier

GregorGizeh, (edited ) in What is your best story when you were in a foreign country?

Did a school exchange with Serbia once (am German myself). The abundance of guns was jarring, I was welcomed to a night club by a couple armed bouncers, one of them open carrying a fucking ak-47.

Those mfs thought it hilarious to put a gun in my jacket during the security check, it was totally surreal being yelled at and held at gun point, even though they were just fucking with me.

SkaveRat,

open carrying a fucking ak-47

now I’d love to know how to conceal-carry an AK47.

“Is that an AK in your pants or are you just happy to see me?”

GregorGizeh,

Openly then. Sorry I’m not that familiar with American assault weapon vernacular

ME5SENGER_24,

For what it’s worth, AK’s are Russian

GregorGizeh,

That I actually did know, but thank you for the context!

Just that I called it open carry when I meant openly, as in its totally normalized that a disco bouncer has a fucking assault rifle

guyrocket,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

Saying open carry is fine, friend.

zeppo,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

I remember after 9/11 I took a flight out of Minneapolis and there were security/police/whatever with automatic rifles. Pretty surprising as I’d never seen anything like that in the US.

ME5SENGER_24,

I’m from the US and it freaks me out all the damn time. If it’s supposed me feel any safer, it doesn’t — AT ALL!

What nightclub in what town in Serbia?

Navarian, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

If it’s presented as such, then I’ve no issue at all. Art can be cool, AI or otherwise, and I like looking at cool things.

GlendatheGayWitch, in Texans (or neighbours), how was the cold spell?

It’s been rough and it’s not over yet. Lots of broken pipes and sprinkler heads. Thankfully there wasn’t much ice on the roads or it would’ve been very dangerous.

I am worried about the future, as long as I’ve been alive I’ve only been in negative wind chills 2 times in Texas and the last one was 2021. Last weekend, i saw wind chill around -5 or -8 and this was after a particularly hot summer with plenty of Temps around 110. Usually we are in the 40s with dips down to the 20s when it gets cold.

And of course, the government is doing more to male the problems worse tha better

GlendatheGayWitch, in What is it that makes a grand piano sound better than an upright piano?

Another thing I didn’t see mentioned is the positioning of the strings and the opening of the piano lid. In a grand piano with the lid open, the strings are slightly above the base of the piano and the sound bouces up to the lid and out to the audience. In an upright piano with the lid open, the sound bounces between the walls of the piano before bouncing off the lid toward the audience. This will lead to a difference in tone and make the upright sound a little more stuffy than a grand piano.
