vxx, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

Louis Rossman.

I enjoyed his board repairs, now he’s only rambling.

lud,

Yeah, just took at his more recent thumbnails and titles. It feels like just ragebait. He is just angry at everything.

I stopped watching his videos when he started to put some effort into making clickbait thumbnails, because I felt the videos became much worse.

iodine0320, (edited )

Agreed. Northridgefix is the new Rossman

A_Random_Idiot,

I’unno. I’ve seen a few of his videos too, and he strikes me as a cunt as well. I will admit I’ve not watched enough to say that for an absolute fact that he is actually a cunt, but I can say that what I have seen has definitely done nothing but encourage me to avoid him.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited )

I agree with a lot of Rossman says with regard to right to repair and stuff.

but hes just an insufferable cunt.

13617,

Agree to disagree

flop_leash_973,

Yeah, he is more about outrage content these days it seems. What he is railing against is usually something I broadly agree is bad from the sounds of it. But he rarely goes any deeper than “this article or 2 claims this corpo is fucking us, you should steal their shit, move to another state, or just in general be as unproductively outraged as me about it.”

And he has started to branch so far into things he doesn’t really know anything about at times that he is either flat out wrong, or so uninformed as to not have an opinion worth listening to on the subject to begin with.

He seems to want to be some kind of investigative journalist reporting on the wrongs of the big guy, but he doesn’t want to leave his house and risk getting into uncomfortable real world situations to do it unless it is a hearing about right to repair. You don’t find Rossman doing much deep diving into details, just surface level rage baiting I guess is what I am trying to say.

Zangoose,
@Zangoose@lemmy.world avatar

I wouldn’t call necessarily call it “unproductive” though? He has been lobbying in cases and contributing to the right to repair movement for several years now. It’s not like he’s doing nothing, he’s doing everything that he has the power to do.

I think it’s important to keep the ai art inside the communities made specially for it.

Outside of a specific community, label, label, watermark, and label again.

I do enjoy messing with ideas in ai generators, it’s most of what I’ve engaged with here. I just don’t want it shoved into everyone’s feed if it’s not something you’re into. Kinda defeats the purpose of a fediverse.

anti, in What is your best story when you were in a foreign country?

I was in Ibiza with some friends (we met famous drug smuggler Howard Marks in Manumission, but that’s not the point of this story). One night two of us were out in San Antonio town, and on the way back to our hotel we spotted a mannequin outside a clothes shop. It was clearly bin collection day the following day, so obviously they didn’t want it any more and clearly we could, indeed we must take it back to our hotel room and put it on the balcony. So we picked it up and walked back towards the hotel. I’m in front holding it across the shoulders, my mate behind me holding the legs. We’re walking past bars and everyone is laughing and cheering us (drunk British people, we’ll cheer anything out of the ordinary).

Then the police turn up in a van. You hear horror stories about being taken to the police station which is miles away and having to pay hundreds in fines, so I instantly become sober. One of them opens the back of the van and says, “In, in.” So we put the mannequin in. In fear and trembling I ask, “What about us?”

And he just says, “You go. Go!”

I’ve never run so fast in my life.

As long as it’s not being passed off as made by a human I don’t care. Most of the AI art I see being posted is specifically to communities for posting AI art, anyway.

Clbull, in Is it normal for your BP to rise after quitting

I’m inclined to say yes.

Alcohol is a depressant and going from heavy drinking to cold turkey is almost always a bad idea. It’s one of those things you need to gradually wean yourself off of. Alcohol withdrawal can legit kill people.

Smoking… I’ve known people who have quit it by going cold turkey.

solitaire, (edited ) in You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?
@solitaire@infosec.pub avatar

Going with the just de-age interpretation and not time travel, it has to be late enough I could still pass for an adult but I’d want it before any of my chronic health conditions emerge so I can mitigate them. I don’t want to look younger, I just want the health benefits.

I can’t go back to being a kid because where the hell would new identity documents come from? I still have to be able to live my current life more or less. I suppose 35 is the absolute minimum for me to take it, at 15 I wasn’t getting carded buying alcohol. I reckon at that age with the right presentation I could pass for 20 at least, and a 35 year old seeming that young isn’t completely unheard of.

I can’t go too much older because issues start compounding in my 20s. I’d love to have picked a post development age - aside from my health, I didn’t really get comfortable in my own skin until then - but it’d be too late. Maybe 40 so the worst of puberty is over, but that’s probably my limit.

Rentlar, (edited ) in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

Maybe 1 in 10 AI generated images posted here I look at that are any interest to me.

Most character mashups outside of a handful aren’t very interesting (the pokemon museum one was neat). Most are kinda meh, but don’t bother me as at least with my current settings only a few AI art communities appear on my feed.

Orbituary, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?
@Orbituary@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. It all seems too similar. Despite different subjects, they all feel so familiar and boring.

stanka, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

In direct opposition to most of the comments here, I relly like it. Most of what I see are really good. I say this having done some and been unable to ‘prompt engineer’ much to my liking. Turns out it is harder than it looks (much like traditional art)

I like it, I like content and it doesn’t take much for me to scroll past stuff I don’t like.

Girl Talk was just a bunch of other peoples music smashed together, but it was undeniably its own art.

JimmyBigSausage, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

Yes. Icky colors.

Alexc, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

I don’t consider it art. The only “creative” part is the prompt itself. Even then, it’s really just users trying to be as fanciful (or perverted) as possible. Once the prompt is ingested, the code takes its cues to remix the turgid crap that’s called the internet today.

Yes, once in a while it produces something “interesting” but this is an accident and not the desired outcome. Ask any artist about this - I’ve never met any that consider all their work as “good” (Ahem, Damien Hirst) and purposefully filter their own output. Ask AI to do that. It can’t. It will literally continue to shit things out until you ask it to stop. Again, like Damien Hirst…

The downside is it’s cheap and requires literally no skill. This means that soon, it will be pretty much everywhere, and thus we’ll continue the inexorable slide into abject mediocrity.

I’m not scared of the AI uprising. I’m scared it’s going to bore us all to death.

mriormro, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?
@mriormro@lemmy.world avatar

Bobby Fingers. Drunk Mel Gibson has quickly become a classic amongst my friends.

Probably one of the most creative and talented makers I have ever had the pleasure of coming across. Every single thing he’s done has been fucking hilarious to boot.

viking,
@viking@infosec.pub avatar

He did only like 5 videos in total or something though. The Jeff Bezos boat is bloody hilarious as well. This guy is absolutely unhinged.

mriormro, (edited )
@mriormro@lemmy.world avatar

It’s 5 videos but if you know anything about fabrication and making or just have an appreciation for that kind of craft then you can recognize just how much fucking work, time, and money he puts into each video. He’s also a part of an intensely creative duo known as the Rubberbandits.

Annoyed_Crabby, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

I considered it as a low effort spam and block any ai art community i can see.

Enkers, (edited ) in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

It bothers me in the same way art done by children bothers me, which is to say not much, but it’s usually pretty devoid of aesthetic value. Because they (AI, not children) draw on a huge variety of styles, they often also feel extremely generic, and like they don’t have any style of their own.

Some of them have been kind of funny because the poster had some sort of decent comedic idea. I’m happier to see this type.
