About as necessary as nipples on the Bat Suit.

Albbi, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Haven’t seen Summoning Salt mentioned yet. He does great videos on the history of speed running a video game.

An example video would be Super Mario Bros: The Human Limit where the difference between a tool assisted speed run and what a human is capable is discussed. And how Super Mario Bros has an interesting mechanic allowing humans to be imperfect but still able to tie a perfectly executed speed run done using essentially a script of commands.

SpookyUnderwear,

Love Salt’s videos. Though the length of his videos are damn near becoming marvel movie length. Good thing he makes quality content.

MacedWindow,
@MacedWindow@lemmy.world avatar

I love Salt, and I’m always excited for a new vid, but I think he could freshen it up by changing up the music (I know blasphemy) or using a different type of graph to show the timeline.

Taako_Tuesday,

I also got tired of the music. I know it’s kinda his thing, but after 10 or 12 videos i started wishing the music would change every once in a while

DrMango,

I wish Summoning Salt would do some more recent or different games, but he really seems to love the NES/SNES era. Just saw he released his second multiple-hours-long video about Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and I am just not the audience for that I guess.

He could do good things with Hollow Knight or Halo 2 for example, but maybe that’s just not his passion.

NICE

Edit: I have watched this video before. Am I having a stroke?

ani, in The desire to build a self-defense kit from Google and the Internet as it is today

You’re being a bit too paranoid. You’re very safe using Google services since they are the most secure. They offer many good services for free and are very democratic, even Chromebooks are so cheap. Please OP, maybe you should seek therapy for dealing with such irrational beliefs.

kjPhfeYsEkWyhoxaxjGgRfnj, (edited ) in What do you think of sports analysts ?

It’s not that different than other media. There is really good analysis out there but you have to really go out of your way to avoid the bullshit. The stuff that really gets eyeballs is the low hanging, drama oriented, sound-byte-y stuff.

DirigibleProtein, in What do you think of sports analysts ?

They should get a real job.

neidu2, in What do you think of sports analysts ?

I don’t

Asudox, in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?
@Asudox@lemmy.world avatar

A few is fine, if AI pics appear in my feed more than that, then it does annoy me.

fosforus, (edited ) in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

Philosophy Tube. After she transitioned, she’s pretty much talked about nothing except trans issues and went more blatantly to the left.

starman2112,
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

After she transitioned, she started talking about being trans? The nerve

fosforus, (edited )

She can do that, it is 100% her right, and I can understand a celebratory phase. But to me, personally, that quickly becomes uninteresting.

It’s all fine. I can do something else and I’m sure she’ll survive without my ad-blocked views.

Coolishguy,

She was always far left, and that fact underpinned pretty much every older video. She has always talked about social and economic issues, and done a damn good job of it.

banneryear1868,

As a socialist she isn’t really that leftist, left side of the neoliberal consensus for sure.

fosforus,

I thought there was definite leftness there, I feel like it was perhaps more moderate, balanced, and based on facts. But perhaps I just grew up.

CancerMancer,

But perhaps I just grew up.

Interesting take. I grew up and swung hard left. I’m a union executive and an advocate for voting reform and a universal basic income. My conservative father and I have the odd clash but surprisingly he’s pretty receptive to all this, and I’ve found many conservative folk are when you don’t treat them like they’re stupid.

fosforus, (edited )

Well, people don’t of course all grow to the same direction.

I think we old people (in 40+s) generally appreciate when young people passionately achieve something, even if it doesn’t exactly align with our own values.

banneryear1868, (edited )

I don’t think she knows the subject matter enough a lot of the time and is part of this weird commodification of philosophy happening. The political angle never bothered me.

GrayBackgroundMusic,

I’ve no problem with the trans and lefty commentary, I find that stuff fascinating…

Who is miss is Oliver. Abigail is nice, but I identified with Oliver in a lot of ways. I can’t identify with Abigail. I wish they could have cloned/split into 2 people.

banneryear1868,

Check out the Carefree Wandering vids that use Abigail, coincidentally right before and after her transition, as an example of how philosophy is commodified by influencers, and some of the interesting things around identity and how it impacts the content etc.

GrayBackgroundMusic,
banneryear1868,

That’s the one!

fosforus, (edited )

Yeah, I suppose this happened to me as well. She’s a good actor.

K0W4LSK1, in Are Americans more prone to conspiracy theories than people in other countries?
@K0W4LSK1@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I would also add things we consider conspiracy like UFO’s have been seen all over the world just other countries usually have a religious or spiritual reason for the sightings and thus they don’t become a conspiracy just part of their everyday life. Look up Jacques Vallee he does great research into this.

HootinNHollerin, (edited ) in Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

IMO it should be in ai communities or at least labeled as such. It’s so disheartening that ai is doing art when it should be doing the menial tasks to free us to do art

HenriVolney, in What are some good questions to ask your boss during your yearly review?

SzethFriendOfNimi,
@SzethFriendOfNimi@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t take random people’s advice at face value. You know your circumstances best.

That being said:

“I’ve done the following this year and feel my work meets or exceeds expectations. That being said cost of living has been going up quite a bit and I would like to discuss how my pay can reflect this”

Or

“What steps do you think I should take to advance my career here? What’s the best path forward to taking on more responsibility and the commensurate compensation?”

And, if you’d rather just ask in general how things are going

“I feel this and this has been going great. Are there any areas you feel I do best in? Any areas that I should work on refining?”

And if the last question doesn’t have anything then that may be a good time to ask about pay. Just the COL alone is reason enough because there’s always the option of finding a new job whose starting pay is what you want.

Also, what’s the plan to correct salaries for higher than normal inflation over the last several quarters?

(Or maybe that would get you fired idk)

shinigamiookamiryuu, in Are Americans more prone to conspiracy theories than people in other countries?

Yes, though you have to remember, in most other places, the government cracks down on conspiracy theories. For example, if you live in China and believe that certain groups are secretly being mistreated, you’re going to have the authorities on your tail.

Snapz, in You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?

A lot of variables in the magic to consider, but if you retain your knowledge, than 35 back to 15. You’ve essentially matured as far as you will at that point, started a family or married if you will do so, found stabilization in your career or at least moved far down that path, you hit the major milestones.

So back to 15 and then you live out the bulk of your high school with knowledge to help you actually enjoy learning, slow pace of high school, form lasting lifelong friendships, properly pursue education beyond high school, then live your 20s with a full appreciation for what they are, start saving money the right way, date the right way and invest in all of the tech companies before they get big so that you’re obscenely wealthy through your late 20s and beyond.

Use the money to line a small island completely with underground dynamite charges. Invite trump, tell him you’re offering him an unlimited budget to make the island into the first trump island and resort, hand him a golden shovel and say, “I’m going to get in this helicopter to get higher up to take a nice cinematic shot of you breaking ground for the press release” when you’re out of the blast radius, press the button. You’ve done one of the greater services to humanity by any living human in history. Enjoy your earned retirement.

Nah. There are just a lot of them, and most of them have access to the Internet.
