dangblingus, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

H3H3. As soon as they got notoriety for their defamation lawsuit against the cringe pickup artist guy, they abandoned making reaction videos and instead became a trashy podcast.

Twelve20two,

Hey, that was around the time I fell off, too!

foggy, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Tom Scott is a beacon of YouTube quality.

He never had a phase where all of his videos were 10:00 for the algorithm, he never jumps on topical shit for clicks, he just talks about genuinely interesting shit, and has gotten to do so on a higher and higher budget.

He has diversified, and has other channels that interface with other YouTubers in gameshow and stuff. But it’s all still legit content.

Example 3

And a deep cut from 9 years ago. Same kind of content. Slightly lower quality but… Guys been doing this kind of “hey I think this is neat let me tell you about it” for a decade, without becoming a dingbat.

You get the idea.

4am,

Unfortunately not for much longer, though

davetapley,

I fell in love with him after the execution of the Dasani video. Walking backward ten minute single take, amazing: youtu.be/wD79NZroV88

MintyAnt,

Video icon has giant red text saying “NOBODY SURVIVES”. Open with Tom Scott standing at a gate to the Chernobyl exclusion zone

“Today I’m here to talk to you about something dark, something that has produced so much pain, something that decays life itself. Me standing in Chernobyl actually has nothing to do with it, because pulls up a laptop showing a game I’m referring to League of Legends”

Maybe not quite what you’re looking for, but the press releases section of a research university often contains brief articles about current research projects, as well as other topical info regarding that university.

Stumpt. Despite having 540k subs, they aren’t one of the super high energy balls to the walls energy where every 5 seconds they zoom in on a small part of the video. They usually have a much more calm energy about them and one thing I really like is how they aren’t telling you to like and subscribe every few minutes, let alone at all in their videos usually.

I used to watch all their gang beasts episodes. They were amazing. Lovely to hear they are still around.

Edit: the videos are 9 years old now. Holy fuck.

Seriously important to make your subscriptions very carefully in apps like lemmey, reddit (if you have access to a third party app) and newpipe (youtube where you can set your startup tab).

It makes all the difference in the world never to land on /r/all, suggested for you or any sort of trending pages.

Read books like the others have said and only subscribe to channels and communities that forward your productive aims.

Octal for hackernews. Lots of peer reviewed papers, reports, and good articles. And lots of smart people in the comments. No memes, no bs.

Cowbee, in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

It’s neither. Leftism is collective ownership of the Means of Production, rightism is invidvidual ownership of the Means of Production. The left or the right can use it alongside either system.

killeronthecorner, in What do you think would happen if Putin was assassinated right now?
@killeronthecorner@lemmy.world avatar

During his next public speech, you’d notice that his eyebrows are slightly bushier, his voice is slightly deeper, and he’s suddenly an inch taller.

NeoNachtwaechter,

"Doppelgangers! Listen!

There is a good news and a bad news for you this morning.

The good news is: Our Great Leader has survived the dangerous attack last night.

The other news is: He has lost his right arm. "

ultra,

Took me a few moments to get this

sukhmel,

I tried searching but to no avail, is it a quote?

PM_Your_Nudes_Please,

If Putin loses an arm, all of his doppelgängers will need to lose an arm too. Otherwise they’ll be immediately identified as doppelgängers.

It’s a pretty well known thing that Putin frequently uses lookalikes for public appearances. It’s apparently an old habit from when he was a KGB agent. So if someone snipes him from a rooftop, it’s probably not even him; He can claim to have miraculously survived the shooting, then carry on as if nothing happened.

ultra,

If he loses his right arm, and Doppelgangers have to look exactly like him, they also have to lose their right arms

iamjackflack, in Is there a search engine for news?

Maybe give this a try: www.allsides.com/unbiased-balanced-news

Supposedly it tries to give you issues with sources from different perspectives to show how all the different news agencies portrays each event (and the spins they could be applying).

Probably the closest so far, but after trying it it doesn’t even respect exact quotes and you can’t filter by time frame.

MedicPigBabySaver, in Are there any apps with kind of an educational feed for mindless scrolling?

Why not just visit a couple communities that have info that you can learn from, like “TIL”?

Could also look into Kahn Academy website, don’t know if they have a free app. That’s loaded with educational stuff.
