yamanii, in What do you think is the coolest designed sci-fi gun?
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t even like the anime but the Dominator is now my favorite one.

skybreaker, in If the human body didn't heal itself, how'd you be doing rn?
@skybreaker@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on what you’re talking about. If you consider all the injuries we’ve ever picked up in life, we’d all be dead. If you’re just talking about the injuries I have now not healing, then I’m fit as a fiddle.

skybreaker, in If you could have any game remade by a studio of your choice, who would you want working on what?
@skybreaker@lemmy.world avatar

Golden Sun. Square Enix.

craftyindividual, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Tom Scott

Curious Droid - lots of sci fi, technology content.

WaterlineStories - all sorts of nautical/diving disasters narrated by a South African chap with a lot of experience.

Qxir - Irish guy with a lot of weird stories told in stick figure form.

Plainly Difficult - a lot of disasters frequently nuclear.

Nile Red is still fun - and a nice dude. Chemistry

Vince Vintage is hilarious, great editing (like internet historian but not a jerk)

Also my homeboy Video Game Dunkey.

Dreading is good(sort of successor to JCS), very sober and tasteful host discussing true crime.

@douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

Qxir?

I found too many of their videos have unsubstantiated claims, and illogical/wrong conclusions drawn from inaccurate or incomplete information.

While they may have high production value at a glance, the quality of the information itself is about as good as any other social media thread.

It’s really disappointing to me cuz I would love their videos but I just can’t keep watching them with such inaccuracies…

craftyindividual,

Fair enough. I really enjoy his delivery. He’s not perhaps the most researched or precise YouTuber but I like the subjects he covered.

Chetzemoka, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Practical Engineering - in depth presentations of civil engineering feats, concepts, problems, solutions

Joe Scott - just simple, entertaining discussions of interesting topics

Philosophy Tube - longer format, intensely well-cited presentations on philosophy related to current events (with theatrical costumes!)

Ryan Hall - who knew that a weather forecast could be so fun? Regularly updated weather forecasts for the entire United States with detailed coverage and livestreams of events like tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and large snowstorms. With charity drives to provide supplies to people on the ground

PBS Spacetime, PBS Eons, all the PBS channels really

Plainly Difficult - consistent quality, often hilarious presentations of various disasters. I particularly like his entire series on radiological accidents, often involving lost radioactive sources that random members of the public stumble onto, which is terrifying.

davetapley,

Did you see spin off Practical Construction yet? That’s next level production, my wife laughed at me waiting for next ep like it’s GoT or something.

Also do you notice that YT never pushes PBS videos? I’m subscribed but always have to go to channel.

Since you like a lot of same as me: check out Climate Town.

flop_leash_973, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

I still like Level1Techs. They don’t put out nearly as many videos as they used to, but what do they put out is usually good.

PrettyFlyForAFatGuy,

Banana for scale pre-existed reddit, and is unlikely to die soon lol

But yeah, fuck the rest of that list, I’m with you :)

I feel like the lack of karma system will 100% help in this aspect. No reason to comment/post dumb things since you don’t really get anything with your post/comment is at the top.

CD has been making videos of quality for 16 years and the only thing that’s really changed is the YouTube resolution limit.

OR3X, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

SVSeeker. At first it seemed like a really inspirational channel about a guy building a giant boat in his backyard in Oklahoma that was going to be used as a free to anyone research vessel, but as time went on everyone slowly realized the dude had basically no idea what he was doing and was super hostile to anyone telling him otherwise. Now it’s been two years since lunching the boat and he has done none of the things he promised to do with it (like even leave the coast) and it seems pretty clear everyone got duped into helping him build a retirement house boat instead of a research vessel.

Thats a real capper

novibe, in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

100% right-wing. It’s a bandaid solution to capitalism, to keep it going after mass unemployment and proletarization.

Left-wing is anti-capitalism (don’t even come at me Americans, seriously). UBI is capitalism.

CultHero, in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

Fear of death.

That’s it.

The fact that there is nothing after you die is terrifying.

I’m a suicidal atheist (the two aren’t connected) and sometimes I think the only thing keeping me alive is the fear of non existence.

zxqwas, in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

Mid 30 Scandinavian right/libertarian leaning.

You can argue for it from both sides.

The right want a small government and to encourage entrepreneurs to take risks. The left want a strong social support system for the unfortunate.

From what I’ve read about it it seems like a good idea. The big question is how you implement it at scale without crashing the current system that works reasonably well.

GentlemanLoser, in How did Francis E. Dec die?

He may have killed himself after realizing he wasted his life on nonsense

banneryear1868, (edited ) in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

Bon Appétit after the issues at their workplace were raised, they all make some decent content outside the BA brand though. Nice to see Sohla doing so much content too since she wasn’t treated the best at BA.

dangblingus,

Just so contrived. Even before the harassment allegations, their videos just seemed so corporate. That’s the Conde Nast influence, but it makes for such milquetoast content.

banneryear1868,

I actually liked the magazine before they did YouTube stuff cause it was different than the typical food mags directed at moms. Industry leading photography and good deep dive pieces in to food trends and unique restaurants, always getting in to the process. Their video editors were youtube guys given a budget and their video content had that feel to it. They did some innovating with how they approach recipe vids, keeping in and even highlighting mistakes was a major editorial decision that set them apart. At their peak they were found to be treating the staff poorly regarding compensation and allegations of sexism, and not paying Sohla for her video appearances etc. They switched their editor in chief and hired new staff but now it just seems even more corporate than it used to.

GrayBackgroundMusic, (edited )

I miss gourmet makes. Claire Saffitz solving industrial food issues on a small scale was fascinating and unique. Her new stuff, dessert person, is nice, but it’s standard cooking show fare, not solving weird industrial hacks.

pete_the_cat,

There was a special charm in watching her misery haha

banneryear1868,

She’s been putting out some great cook books, Dessert Person is excellent. I always liked her and BA for highlighting process of making food and how important indicators are vs simply measurements. What does “cream the butter and sugar” actually look like and why is it important etc.

  • RickMoreanus,

    Brad’s definitely the kind of extrovert host who takes other interesting professionals and lifts the energy up to very entertaining affect, I used to watch everything BA put out, they were a great channel.

    FangedWyvern42, in People with Disney+, how's the movie selection?
    @FangedWyvern42@lemmy.world avatar

    Pretty good here in the UK. Lots of action and horror movies for some reason. I’m pretty sure they are all from 21st Century Fox.
