toomanypancakes, in If you could have any game remade by a studio of your choice, who would you want working on what?
@toomanypancakes@lemmy.world avatar

I’m just curious what From Software would do with Super Metroid, not that it needs a remake

CaptObvious, in Tips on making your data less sellable?

Search how to poison the well. Choose other wherever possible and lie about the rest. Get creative. I’ve done my best to make FB think that I’m a 7’ 4000-yr-old gay Amazon warrior princess.

Tangent5280,

Did you grow to full size and then stay static in height, or do you grow 0.05334 cm a year?

Math is interesting

CaptObvious,

My last growth spurt was about 3500 years ago.

Lemminary, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

How to Cook That (Ann Reardon)

Her debunking videos and 200 year-old recipes are very entertaining.

Also Adam Ragusea (my husband, but he doesn’t know that)

GONADS125,

My wife watches her. I thought her debunking videos were great and forcing her husband to eat the putrid concoctions is always hilarious.

UnrepententProcrastinator, in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

If you take the most extreme form, they just shelter their children and brainwash them to the point where denial of God’s existence is associated with fear of hell.

For the rest, confirmation bias, especially thanks to the shitty tool like Google search that reinforce it. Or they make their God untouchable by definition through philosophical arguments.

They feel the same way about you not believing considering all the self-evident miracles they see everyday on their feed.

Bravebellows, in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

Politics is being blended into religion and vice versa so it still has some life yet.

Pinkburitto, in What is this wire for?

Crazy

NeoNachtwaechter, in What do you think would happen if Putin was assassinated right now?

Currently, there is no other really powerful figure next to him.

Therefore a giant power vacuum emerges.

The war would stop, probably very soon. But then the situation gets chaotic and unpredictable.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited )

I’d wager the war goes from internal, to internal civil war, if Putin dies, as various power blocks try either secure their own positions/power, or reach for more.

assuming they didnt try to blame the west, which then things get far more worse for NATO states, and possibly hot

intensely_human,

There’s got to be some kind of Vice Putin isn’t there? A guy who can step in and rule with an iron fist and keep things running? Or is this just some kind of jackal feeding frenzy sort of situation when he dies?

Everythingispenguins,

Well yes, no and yes.

There is a second in line, Mikhail Mishustin. He is relatively new to the position(prime Minister) and was likely chosen for his loyalty and because he is most likely a weak political actor.

There is also Dmitry Medvedev who is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia. He was the former Prime Minister and president of Russia. A long time member of Putin’s Government. He is likely a much stronger political actor. Having said that he may have had a falling out with Putin and has been sidelined for the last few years.

There are also a number of generals and the leaders of both the FSB and GRU who could bring force to bear to gain power.

It is unlikely that anyone one of these people have both the political capital and the monopoly on violence to easily take power. It is very common for strongman leaders to surround themselves with weak deputies so that they cannot be easily forced out of power by one of their own. This is in part why you tend to see autocratic regimes collapse into chaos.

It is also worth noting that there is no second inline for the president in Russia. It goes president, prime minister, nobody.

If you want to learn more about this dynamic CP Grey did a great few videos on YouTube called The Keys To Power. It explains how various types of leaders get and maintain power.

TheDarkKnight,

Yeah I’d imagine the troops in Ukraine would be pulled back into Russia largely to secure someone’s position in their upper ranks, with only enough to maintain defensive positions in Ukraine. If Ukraine broke through during this period it’d probably be over while Russia is distracted with internal issues.

NeoNachtwaechter,

largely to secure someone’s position in their upper ranks

Yes, or simply because noone else really wants this war (=wants the country to pay the price of this war).

Etterra, in What can the US do to help Mexico finally stop the cartels?

Decriminalize the use of currently illegal drugs, and increase penalties for the dealing of illegal drugs. Then increase funding for the medical treatment of addiction. And homelessness. And food insecurity. Too bad none of that will ever happen, since our stupid government prefers to solve all of its problems with cruise missiles.

RyanUrq1328, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

internet shaquille

cooking videos

shucks,

OMG, you just made my day! I watched Internet Shaquille years ago and really enjoyed him but never subscribed. Then I forgot his name and have tried many times to find him again using the few things I remembered from his videos. Never found him though. And now, you posted that little name and I instantly recognized it, thank you so much :D

jawa21, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

ThatGuyWithTheGlasses fell harder than any I have seen.

donslaught,

For real, what happened with that whole family of creators? I haven’t watched any of them in over 10 years.

Google , but to sum up, people got fed up with the mistreatment by the Walkers (Doug, the NC, and Rob) as well as Mike the ceo, especially after one of the best liked members was fired from the site.

And THEN it came to light that they had known about a pedo in their midst and protected him for years. Justin Carmical, Aka JewWario.

HurlingDurling, in What really popular movie or TV show have you never seen?

trackcharlie, (edited ) in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

UBI is neither left or right, it’s ridiculously logical. If people don’t have money, you don’t have an economy. No economy, no taxes, no taxes, no government, no government, no support for the people and no military, no military, no defense from aggressors, no defense from aggressors, welcome back to the age of Gengis Khan.

You don’t need to assign a political leaning to something that’s fundamentally economic in nature.

There are entire industries that are dying as we speak and they will NOT be returning and they will NOT have jobs to replace them like there has been throughout history of automation. (Manufacturers got automated bots, but those bots required people to set, align, and assist or repair. Now all of this will be able to be done by other bots with a single site overseer who, eventually, will also be a bot)

This isn’t a printing press situation where the writers are replaced by a printing press so they can better focus on journalism instead of writing individual papers by hand, this is a situation where we will have entire industries die and entire sets of professionals age out and entire professions lost to the void.

Another example of this would be bank tellers vs ATM’s back in the day, the tellers thought ATM’s would remove their jobs, it reduced their jobs at first, then changed their jobs outright to financial administration and management, rather than doling out cash to people, made their jobs more efficient and fundamentally different.

This is not that situation. The tellers will lose their jobs as well this time, and so will the bank managers and investors.

Delphia, in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

I support the idea of a UBI because any kind of welfare system with rules as to who is eligible will rule out some people who are very much deserving on a technicality and there are people who are entirely caipable of working but go out of their way to cheat the system.

So in a way I support it for slightly “right” reasons. I want a level playing field, nobody should be fucked from the jump and nobody should have to fight for the very basics, beyond that you should have to work, contribute, create… do something to bring value to the greater world.

ICastFist, in What can the US do to help Mexico finally stop the cartels?
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

The obvious answer: Start producing locally

So, how do we do it? Do we straight up invade Mexico and go on a full out war against the cartels like we did against Osama Bin Laden?

That sure went well, huh? Afghanistan sure is a better place now! Oh, wait…
