BowtiesAreCool, in Edit: (What do you call this dish?)

I’ve never understood this “dish” I’d pretty much 100% if the time prefer a fried egg on an in tact piece of toast.

normalexit,

To me it’s just something fun to do when I’m bored with scrambled and over easy. Also if you use a good amount of butter in the pan, you can fry the little chunk of bread that was removed and that tastes great.

tyler, in What can the US do to help Mexico finally stop the cartels?

The majority of illegal immigration into the US has nothing to do with walking across borders anywhere. It’s people overstaying their visas, and they got to the US on a plane. The whole Republican thing about immigrants marching across the borders is one of the most fantastical stories they’ve made up to make democrats look bad.

HamSwagwich, in Edit: (What do you call this dish?)

Toad in a hole is what I’ve always heard it called

Mr_Dr_Oink,

Toad in the hole is sausages in a big yorkshire pudding.

The name must have been appropriated to refer to this eggy bread meal.

To be fair, I’ve never heard a name for it before.

someguy3, in What can the US do to help Mexico finally stop the cartels?

Universal healthcare in the US if breaking bad is right.

PonyOfWar, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

Never would have called him a favorite of mine exactly, but a channel I used to watch was Shadiversity. Had some interesting videos on medieval life and castles. These days he seemingly only does “let’s test this wacky weapon” videos and has a terrible second channel where he whines about “woke culture”.

Empricorn, (edited )

has a terrible second channel where he whines about “woke culture”

That’s disappointing. I’ve watched a lot of his videos over the years and didn’t even know about a second channel or his beliefs.

PsychedSy,

Isn’t that kind of a good thing?

GnomeKat, (edited )
@GnomeKat@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Some people don’t want to financially support creators who on record have said things like homosexuality is wrong and should not be encouraged. Watching youtube videos is financial support.

PsychedSy,

I understand that, but I also respect creators that keep their main channel focused on its core.

CancerMancer,

Has he actually said homosexuality is wrong? This is the first I’ve ever heard of that.

DaleGribble88,
@DaleGribble88@programming.dev avatar

Tangential fun fact: the guy from “Shadiversity” and the guy from “Drawing with Jazza” are brothers. This is incredibly odd to me because I don’t think that they look or act alike at all.

GnomeKat,
@GnomeKat@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I find that connection hilarious cus Jazza is way more popular and talented with true artistic ability, where shad is an anti-woke dipshit who gets mad at the mario movie and plays with swords.

Blamemeta,

After a certain point, what else can you cover about the medieval period thats interesting, entertaining, understable to a general audience, and can fit in a youtube video?

I still think he needs to collab with Jill Bearup on boob armor, though.

PonyOfWar,

That’s fair enough, though I do think there are a ton of interesting medieval topics he still could have covered. I’m the kind of guy who likes watching multi-hour essays on ancient civilizations though, so I might not be “general audience” and he moved pretty much in the opposite direction of what I like to watch. Finding his second channel was what sealed the deal for me though, couldn’t take him seriously after that.

Microplasticbrain,

Same, I watched so many of his videos and enjoyed all thw castle shit. Too bad

starman2112, (edited )
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

I lost interest after he sang the praises of the Goblin Slayer rape scene. BuT tHe GoBLiNs nEeD tO bE sCaRy! You can “make monsters monstrous” without adding explicit rape scenes to your mid-tier manga.

FaceDeer,
@FaceDeer@kbin.social avatar

I actually appreciate that he's taken care to keep the two channels separate, I just didn't bother to subscribe to Knights Watch and so it doesn't bother me.

I guess mileage varies on the "wacky weapons" vs "medieval history" division, though. I like both so I'm fine with them being mixed.

retrieval4558, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?

Pick out books for each other to read

NeoNachtwaechter, in What is the most cost effective solar battery on the market today?

The most cost effective ones are not exactly on the market.

You order the parts and the needed tools/devices from the land of the free mail order businesses, and then you follow some youtube tutorial for instructions how to build your battery. Saves you thousands.

nakal,
@nakal@kbin.social avatar

It is a good way to have a fire hazard at home, if you don't know what you're doing.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Owning a home AND being stupid is a good way to become poor. So what.

Fake4000, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

A lot of tech YouTubers (such as Mr whose the boss). Just a hype man reading specs and hyping up shit.

Just look at him speaking about the Huawei Mate 60 pro. What a load of bullshit.

pineapplelover,

Yeah, I forgot when I stopped watching him, maybe take a look at the videos he makes to understand my point. He’s very enthusiastic but it’s not informative and he gets stuff wrong.

CancerMancer,

Probably means Gamers Nexus, a pretty solid PC build/review channel that does some great deep dives. Steve is sometimes jokingly referred to as Tech Jesus, but he’s pretty respected in the PC building community.

gigeaky,

Who?

jacktherippah,

So far I think I can trust MrMobile to give an honest opinion. When it comes to his channel its not just specs and numbers but real experiences. Quite different from the myriads of other tech channels on YT today.

potterpockets, in What are some happy endings that really wasn't all that happy?

The Graduate.

themeatbridge,

Wasn’t that the point of the ending?

potterpockets,

Youd be surprised by the number of people i have talked to that dont pick up on that.

nao, in What prevents you from going to bed early?

morphballganon, in People that went to high schools with 3 or more floors, did you think that was a bit odd?

My middle school was bigger than my grade school. The first high school I attended was smallish but it had a lower student population, so that wasn’t odd. The second high school I attended was much bigger, but it had a larger student population, so that wasn’t odd either.

Mamertine, in What is the most cost effective solar battery on the market today?

Cost effective?

Used electric car batteries.

Steve,
PonyOfWar, (edited ) in Does France have a terrorism problem?

France certainly has a social problem, with immigrant-descended populations often living precariously in crime-ridden banlieues, relatively isolated from the “indigenous” French people. These are great conditions to breed extremism.

But I’m not sure you could go so far as to say that there’s really a terrorism problem. Of course any terrorist attack will be a huge thing in the news, but looking at the bigger picture, it still happens rather rarely and France is overall a pretty safe country.

magnor,
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

This is an accurate summary of the situation. We have a social problem, and a pretty bad one at that, not a terrorism or an immigration problem.

highenergyphysics,

We’re in the endgame of capitalism and fascism, baby.

Best to just keep your head down, vote left (like spitting on a forest fire), and most importantly, stay armed and practice your marksmanship.

It’s going to be a shit future.

AlphaOmega, (edited ) in Folks in North America, where do you like to get PC parts online these days?

Depends on what you want. Newegg, eBay, Amazon, Jawa.gg, Liquidation.com, Shopgoodwill.com, FB Marketplace, Craigslist, Garage sales, Auctions

I get computer parts from all these sources.
