I just don’t like Star Wars and I like sci-fi in general. But Star Wars is just one of those stories I can’t make myself to like.
I remember fondly the prequels with pod racing and that red black guy with double lightsaber. I wached those movies as a child.
Later I tried watching all of them and I could not bring myself to finish even one. The dated effects (good for their time) just took me out of the story way too much.
I also tried waching the new ones, but they just felt boring so I dropped them.
I don’t know what is it about Star Wars, but I just can’t bring myself to like them even with nostalgia by my side.
Because it’s the only really good Star Wars film. All the rest have either cringe-inducing acting, nonsensical plotting, or are inundated with inane family friendly elements like Ewoks, Anikin and Jarjar.
Maybe because Star Wars, at least the original 3 movies, aren’t really sci-fi. It’s a fairy tale with some SF veneer. There’s an evil emperor, a princess, knights, magic and a hero who saves the princess and eventually overthrows the evil emperor.
I think I like fantasy even more than sci-fi. Lord of the rings was awesome, both books and movies. I really liked The witcher books. I wouldn’t really say I have a strong preference to genre as long as the story is good. And execution of the story is even more important.
We call this egg-in-the-hole, which I am just realizing is not very original, but there it is. It is also necessary to fry the bread “holes” they are a nice bonus.
I don’t have a Plex server or anything like that, which I honestly should get, but I simply just use free streaming websites like 123.movies. Movies-web.app was great but has had some issues recently. I hope they get it/or already have it fixed because it was a very nice, pop-up free experience when it was working.
But in general my brain is dumb and does some dumb stuff.
The other night I wanted a nice cup of earl grey lavender tea to help me relax because I couldn’t fall asleep. Problem being was we had ran out of loose leaf tea bags. I dug out the small box of tea strainers we have collected over the year only to find out one hadn’t been properly cleaned and was slightly moldy. Others were surface rusted or tarnished.
My sleep deprived brain decided that the best decision was to pull out the dental picks, dremel tool, and other cleaning picks to get these tea strainers in tip top shape.
This is how my wife found me sitting on a bar stool hunched over the kitchen sink deep cleaning tea strainers at 3:30 in the morning.
I can’t think of too many I haven’t watched at all. Plenty I have seen a few episodes from and just didn’t get into. Although, many of these I should give another go because they, supposedly, got better later on. Such as The Expanse and Star Trek: Picard.
GOT I didn’t get into right away because, at the time it came out, I didn’t know shit about the book series and the ads made it look like another HBO show going at the time I was watching called Rome, but with a medieval Europe style instead of the Roman stuff so I was like “I don’t really want to watch two historical fictions at once when this one is already hella dense.” Had I known it was a fantasy, with magic and shit, I would have started it much sooner.
Most of I haven’t seen a single episode of is before my time. Like Dallas or My Mother the Car (was that one even popular or just really stupid? 🤔) Although I have never seen The Wire or 24 nor have I known a single person IRL who liked them.
I consume media like a fiend. Ever since I discovered piracy as a lad, there’s nothing out of reach to at least check out.
