rayyy, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

Get to know a gardener or forager. Both are cheap and healthy pastimes that provide great food and save money.

cheese_greater, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

If you have any public drug coverage and you can’t afford food, you might be able to get your dr to “prescribe” food (stuff like Ensure, Resource, etc) and have it filled for free from public exceptional coverage.

OhmsLawn, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

Here’s the trick I used when I was young and poor. I worked for cash with an estate liquidator, and I saw the passion some of the customers had for their collectables. I decided to develop that flavor of passion for a collection of $20 bills.

For me, the hardest part of saving money (assuming it’s even a possibility) is avoiding the trap of saving to spend. The savings itself has to become a goal, and that can be really, really boring.

Another tactic I used was to always save double the value of a large planned purchase: if I started with $500 and I wanted a $200 item, I’d save until I had $900 before spending. That way my stack never felt like it was diminishing.

littlecolt, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

Where my Casio G-Shock fam at? Solar, set by atomic clock, stylish, pretty backlight, old Nokia cell phone levels of indestructible. What’s not to love?

Cameri,
@Cameri@lemmy.world avatar

Gshocks are the ultimate watch, and honestly one of the most reliable things someone can have for everyday use

Lorindol,

I gave my ~25 years old G-Shock to my son, he somehow lost it the garden in the fall. I found it the next spring when the snow had melted. I dried it up and changed the battery, it works like nothing had happened.

Amazing design.

PsychedSy,

Same. I’ve beat the shit out of this watch and they’re not even expensive. It has some dings now, but it took quite a while dealing with my blue collar bullshit before it started showing abuse.

turkelton, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

A hot water bottle to stay warm in winter. Also a really good tip if you’re not poor.

Buck, in What is your favorite hobby?

I don’t have a single favourite. I like coding for retro computers, doing cross stitch, drawing, playing guitar, gaming and electronics.

Jakdracula, in Are there any alternatives to photoshop on ios mobile?

PlantDadManGuy, in What do you want for Christmas?

A nap

retrieval4558, (edited ) in What Linux OS & Desktop Environment (DE) or Windows Manager (WM) do you use?

Kubuntu on my desktop and Fedora KDE on my laptop. I probably should explore some other DEs (I have some experience with cinnamon and xfce) but just really like KDE lol.

Also unRAID on my nas if that counts.

sagedemage, in What do you want for Christmas?

I personally do not need much for myself.

The 3 things I would want for the world:

  1. Peace
  2. Food assistance against hunger
  3. Protect people from diseases
vox, (edited ) in What Linux OS & Desktop Environment (DE) or Windows Manager (WM) do you use?
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

Windows
but used to be on Gnome Wayland, Arch
why did i go back? temporarily, just wanted to try out new windows stuff in windows 11, they actually improved the os quite a lot (package manager is a nice bonus feature).
Still going to return to linux eventually, probably to KDE 6 on Arch or Debian Sid once it’s released and stable

Wahots, in What do you want for Christmas?
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Nothing really major. I really have everything I need for now. I’d like a house, but Santa can’t really build one and bring that on his sleigh, haha.

Honestly, moving back closer to my family, friends, and boyfriend has been the best Christmas gift of all :)

drasticpotatoes, in What do you want for Christmas?

People to be housed, healthy, and happy.

Rottcodd, in Is it ok to use acronyms similar to those on an equally or more popular discussion forum?

I say use whatever the fuck words you want to use.

IMO the only relevant issue is whether or not they accomplish the task of communicating the thing you wanted to communicate in the way you wanted to communicate it. If so, then they’re as right as they need to be, and any objection anyone else might have is only your problem to the extent that you allow it to be. If you care what they think then it matters, but if you don’t then it doesn’t.

cheese_greater,

K can we use it without having to worry about Redit raining down on our fledgling platform like thunder lol

Rottcodd, (edited )

Certainly.

I saw in another post that AMA is apparently copyrighted (which is ridiculous, but I guess rent-seeking fuckwads are gonna do what they’re gonna do). At worst, what that means though is that if the fuckwads at Reddit care enough, they can arrange for a DMCA takedown if someone uses it.

And unless they’re even more stupid than I cynically presume, Reddit isn’t even going to do that, since the last thing they should want to do is try to establish a precedent of criminal sanctions against forums that host copyrighted material.

saltesc,

We should just have AMW anyway. Sounds way cooler, like we dgaf.

“Yeah, I’m a frog. Ask me whatever.”

Rottcodd,

I’m sold.

cheese_greater,

[singsong] Luvvvvvitttt!

sanguine_artichoke,
@sanguine_artichoke@midwest.social avatar

A short term like that would be trademarked, not copyrighted. The two have very different rules.

cheese_greater,

That was me lol

slurpeesoforion,

Doesn’t it require they defend the copyright?

cheese_greater,

Thats what I mean tho, can they even defend against us using it regardless of their preference on the matter?

indigomirage, (edited ) in What do you want for Christmas?

Peace and quiet. And to see people to need food get food. I really don’t need anything myself.
