My aside:

In every community I see this. There are always folks trying to narrow the community to some cut and dry descriptors—which for them are always obvious.

Sometimes the jab is perhaps intended as a joke. But to my reading it’s always a trope, namely the tired fallacy of taking a part as the whole.

Either way, it’s myopic. In any internet community, we’re always bound to narrowly see what’s happening. Because:

  • We can only see the posters, never the lurkers—which far exceed the former;
  • Posters, by virtue of taking the time to post, are most often than not highly opinionated;
  • Our reading is always selective. We’re either misguided by the way the comments are sorted, by our mood at the moment, by chance, or simply because we’re really bad at reading;
  • Our reading is always biased. Either by our mood, our current situation in life, our upbringing, our milieu, whatever;
  • the list goes on and on and on.

This results in a very reductive view that, although very teasing because very personal and idiosyncratic, is ultimately an exercise in futility. To those already biased, it simply supplies them with fodder to confirm what they already believed.

From afar, it’s just noise. Any view on what the community is is but a poor reflection of what the community ultimately is.

Where are my Satisfactory Pioneers at?

zalgotext,

Man I really wanted to like Satisfactory and play it all the way through, but it’s just that much worse than factorio in a lot of ways, it didn’t quite hook me in the same way. It got really repetitive/grueling in the late game, I think the tier after aluminum, and I just got bored with it.

Litany,
@Litany@lemmy.world avatar

I think the great thing about Satisfactory is you don’t have to “beat it”. Just do what you want in it, proceed as far along the tech tree as you please, and if you happen to get all the way through it, congrats.

I’ve played almost 1000 hours and haven’t beaten the last Space Elevator tier. But I’m not bothered by it. I like so many of the other aspects of the game that I don’t need to “beat” it. I like making every production line 100% efficient, I like building beautiful buildings, and I think the game is so much fun to simply run around in. It’s honestly the game I’ve had the most fun moving around in since Titanfall. Titanfall definitely edges Satisfactory out in this department, comfortably, but Satisfactory is still a blast to simply explore the world in.

That’s just my take on it though. Your opinion of it is definitely valid. It is a big grind to get all the way through the last Space Elevator tier.

While you can go for a period without many calories, you will need electrolytes. The recommendations for things like Pedialyte will help with that, but for foods you may just have to try what works for you. It's so personal.

Stay hydrated and "salted" and go from there. If you can't keep it down then it isn't for you. Salty foods will help you retain water.

SendMePhotos, in What game do you play to just chill?

Descenders (oddly satisfying mountain biking game)

Life is Strange was a good one to chill and enjoy the unfolding of events (any of them are good. The 1st and Colors were my favorites)

Grand Turismo I’ve been on. Never really been a racing fan but for a few races I’m actually relaxed and enjoying myself.

Descenders is such a fun game! I love doing suicide trick jumps into the finish area so the level successfully ends with my rider crashing through the barriers in the background

Also some great tunes. And the crazy obstacle course levels are a blast

I used to have to force feed myself when I wasn’t hungry. Ramen was essential for priming the appetite. But not the bad stuff. Good stuff like Black Shin

Use sentence case and periods. I’ve seen other communities where omitting periods was fine. Also, try not to use emojis but if you do, do it sparingly.

Personally, i just need a game that lets me do something pretty. Satisfactory was mentioned, or City Skylines. Or something that is highly nostalgic and familiar, like Skyrim, Halo or Minecraft. I don’t intrinsically need to think in these cases, which is my goal. I’m a programmer, so anything that lets me shut my brain off and just exist is great. Sometimes BloonsTD is also a great game for this, but it’s situational.

Counter intuitively, most “casual” games like Stardew don’t really fit this vibe for me because of the daily time limit. I need to pick and choose what tasks to do in a day, and I always fall into a min-max schedule, which requires effort. Much as I love them, I also avoid story driven games like Baldur’s Gate when I need to unwind, because I really need to pay attention to progress, and there kinda isn’t any mindless grinding. Multiplayer games with randos is also strictly out. No League, COD, Battlefield, Fortnite etc… Just in general. Don’t like 'em, never did, hate that they are so prolific. They’re just stressful.

Eyelessoozeguy,

In the something pretty department I recommend dwarffortress.

DashboTreeFrog,

Man, sounds like we’re in very much the same vibe, think I’ll give City Skylines and/or Satisfactory a go

Hell yea my dude. Don’t forget, always be productive! And don’t damage Ficsit property.

To label anything and everything you disagree with on the news as propaganda, regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

weeeeum, in What are some promising solutions to solar power's lack of night time availability? Is "transoceanic power transportation" on the list?

There will likely be lots of wind energy too which could alleviate the solar problem, though this is based on luck. Passed that the ideal solution is nuclear energy and in the future fission based reactors if they are economically viable.

What’s most feasible today in most places would be burning gas. I know it’s not perfect and still emits plenty of CO2 but the plants are much faster, cheaper and easier to build than nuclear, and gas burns much cleaner than coal or oil. Plus it can be stored and transported fairly efficiently by LNG container ships.

Chicken soup, plain white rice, buttered toast, peanut butter, and crackers are all things I can usually tolerate when I feel that way. Sometimes banana or vanilla yogurt. I hope you feel better soon!

I was really sick and couldn’t eat much of anything for 2 months and lived mostly on the chocolate Soylent. I had issues staying hydrated so I also drank a lot of Liquid IV (Pina colada and watermelon were my favorites).

As I started to tolerate more solid food I ate: canned soup purees like butternut squash/tomato bisque/pea soup, powdered soup mixes from Bob’s Red Mill or Knorr, steel cut oatmeal with mushrooms and chicken broth cooked in a pressure cooker, rolled oatmeal with nuts and dried fruit, grits, plain rice crackers, nut thins, fage 5% yogurt, bananas plain or blended up with milk, applesauce, cottage cheese, carrots cooked to mush. Also ate a lot of sweet potatoes and russet potatoes, I cooked a bunch of them whole in the pressure cooker at once and then I’d eat them all week.

Some of my friends recommended Huel or Plenny shakes but I never got around to ordering any.

I’d also avoid anything with too much oil, fat, hot spices, or sugar which can irritate the stomach and limit cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale which can be hard to digest.

Hope you feel better soon.

When nothing at all sounds good but youre in need of protein, try soy milk. It’s cold, smooth and easy to get down.

Hang in!

lemmylommy, in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

Add some good (low sugar and low added fats) peanut butter or any other nut butter and/or ground nuts to your oats. Makes for a healthy and calorie rich meal that keeps you sated for a while. It’s easy on the stomach, does not cause the blood sugar to rise quickly and you can eat it spoon by spoon over the whole day, if necessary.

Also don’t forget to drink plenty. I find tea and highly diluted apple juice (like 10%) are ideal when I am sick.
