Siethron, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

I love egg nog, looked into how to make it. It’s takes over an hour to make, so definitely won’t get it out of season

JudahBenHur,

dont forget to make it WAY before you need it- its not fun to try to power-chill hot fresh nog when guests will be there in an hour

ettyblatant,
@ettyblatant@lemmy.world avatar

Get outta here with that Hot Fresh Nog!

Is my new favorite thing to say.

JudahBenHur,

please let me know how many times you are able to work it into conversations in the next year or so

doublenut, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

No

n3m37h, in People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?

Hyundai recommends that car rubs for 10 seconds to make sure the oil is doing its job

MaxHardwood,

Does it rub the oil itself?

1847953620,

it rubs the good parts.

n3m37h,

Every day, its why she’s so slick

UrPartnerInCrime, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I got a tattoo of Jormungander on my wrist because I like the look of watches but don’t actually like wearing a watch

RedGee, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

After a bad experience with a Sumsumg product, I would say a standalone watch that doesn’t connect to anything.

hperrin, in What are some green flags in a partner in your opinion?

The biggest green flag is that you like being around them and you miss them when they’re not there. I know that seems kinda obvious and a weird thing to say, but hear me out. Sometimes people get invested into a relationship, and don’t even realize that they don’t like spending time with their partner. Wanting to be around them, like actually longing for their company, is a green flag.

rothaine, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I have a pixel watch, but I usually just wear my regular watch. I forget to charge the smart watch, and that annoys me. I always sleep wearing my watch so it’s hard to remember to take it off at night and charge it.

Clipboards, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?
@Clipboards@lemmy.world avatar

Brie. I never buy it on my own free will, but I am an absolute goblin when I see it at a party

stolid_agnostic,

I ONE TIME bought a Camembert with the plan to bake it. I very seriously thought that something was rotting in my kitchen and actually cleaned out the fridge. When I discovered that it was the cheese, I put the whole thing into a sealed container and the kitchen STILL smelled rotten.

Don’t get me wrong, that baked Camembert was amazing. But not worth the smell lol.

OhmsLawn,

TJ’s triple cream is sinful and basically the same price as normal cheese.

Mr_Blott,

The French secret for brie - leave it out before you eat it. I’m talking like a day or two. It’s bland otherwise but takes on a camembert quality as it rapidly ages

HamSwagwich, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

Just recently went been to a Fitbit charge 6 from a Galaxy watch 5. I don’t use any of the features of a smart watch and having to charge it every day is bullshit. The Fitbit is charge ever week or week and a half.

BigilusDickilus, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I had a smartwatch for a bit and I realized the only things I cared about were the biometrics and clock. I got rid of it and got a nice watch and an oura ring that I only need to charge once a week and I much prefer this setup.

AlDente, (edited )

Never heard of the Oura ring before. Thanks for mentioning it. I hate wearing a watch to bed, so this might be more tolerable.

Is it still useful without the monthly membership?

BigilusDickilus,

I don’t know how useful it would be without the membership as I haven’t tried it. I am unsure to be honest, the advanced features I am kind of on the fence about, but the sleep insights have been very helpful. I do like the workout tracking which I think is free.

FireTower, in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t even mention the fediverse, unless they pry. It’s another thing to explain.

If they get Reddit just say it’s like a bunch of mini Reddits connected to each other.

didnt_readit, in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?

I just start with “It’s basically just a community owned Reddit” and leave it at that.

I think that gets the important point across. Getting into details about federation and picking servers just makes it sound complicated, when it really isn’t.

Then if someone’s interested I just recommend them a larger server and let them go from there.

I think people way over complicate things from the start and turn people off before they even try it.

Valmond,

Yeah keep it simple is IMO a good thing.

Like not saying it’s like email servers or something, I got that and I know Reddit and how email servers works and it just muddied the waters for me.

What do you think about this? It’s like Reddit but everyone can make theirs if they want to.

TheGiantKorean, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

Sweet potatoes. So yummy, just baked with butter and salt. I’m not sure why we don’t have them as a side more often.

JusticeForPorygon,
@JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world avatar

I’m the exact opposite with sweet potatoes. I always forget that I don’t like them. I want to like them so badly, I mean come on, bright orange mashed potatoes! But Everytime I try to eat one I just can’t finish it. It’s weird .

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

I can see that - some foods looking way more appealing than they actually are.

IonAddis,
@IonAddis@lemmy.world avatar

Same here. I think they’re just too sweet for me, somehow? Which is odd, because I’ll eat things like acorn squash which get kinda sweet when cooked. ::shrug::

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Possibly the texture. Potatoes have a different texture than squash.

mwproductions,

I like them with a little miso. Or miso butter. Damn, now I’m super hungry.

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

Oh yeah, good call. That would be delicious.

Logh, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

Nokia n70. Still think about it sometimes, it was a great little phone.

fckreddit,

I used Nokia N79. Nokia N series had some amazing phones.

bionicjoey, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

I had a blackberry bold which was sorta in between smart and dumb. My last actual dumb phone was an LG rumor, which was one of those with the full querty slide-out keyboard
