Falafel

Lemminary, (edited )

From the House of Anárion? (Jk, I had never heard of this food and sounds like either a warrior or a place in Middle Earth)

It's like fried chickpea patties or nuggets. Sort of like if you made fried hummus bread. Super good with tzatsiki (yogurt/cucumber) or tahini (sesame) sauce. Sometimes it's served in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts.

I was at the Del Mar Fair once and got some super green falafel. It was awesome. I’ve spent 30 years chasing that high.

Just this year I would say:

  • salmon steak
  • unagi (vacuum sealed and frozen)
  • potato salad
  • dace with salted black bean (and canned fish in general)
  • banh mi
  • sweet and sour pork
  • deli cuts from the deli counter of the grocery store (been getting boar’s head chipotle chicken breast)
  • roasted peanuts (honey, spicy or Japanese style)
  • melona
csfirecracker,

I’m with you on the bahn mi, every time I have it I’m like “Why do I not eat this more often!?”

fhek, in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

Soup, crackers, nuts.

Cottage cheese. It just looks wrong, and there’s all different qualities of it like - no, I don’t want any . . . Oh well I’ll just have a small, tiny bite. Mmh. Not bad. Probably just a little salt here and . . Mmh. Mm hmm. Yeah. Oh. Oh! now I get the whole ‘cottage cheese’ thing . . Ooh pineapple you say . . Oh man okay yes. Yes, absolutely this is awesome. Must remember to get some more next time.

(Spoiler: does not remember to get more next time.)

Mistymtn421,

Not a big fan of it myself, but the best snack ever is some kettle chips and cottage cheese as the dip. It looks weird/gross, yet every one who has tried it has loved it. I usually sprinkle some black pepper on it prior.

cheese_greater,

I feel like dill goes well with this

Huge fan of chilli cheese fritos with cottage cheese as a dip.

thorbot, in People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?

I wait for my car to idle for a few seconds because the dealer told me to. The “cold engine” light turns off and then I’m good to go.

ohlaph, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I use a Garmin. It measures heart rate and holds music so I don’t have to take my phone put on a run or walk.

Brkdncr, in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?

Just like how people can use different browsers to get to content on the internet, people can use different websites to get to the fediverse.

Subscribed new. I have lots of time to kill. And since I’m using my own instance there is no sense in using any other feed, as almost every community reaching my small server is one I am subscribed to.

Spinach puffs. 20 minutes in the oven for a quick and dirty not unhealthy meal. It’s delicious. It’s filling. It’s relatively cheap…. And for some reason I only make it once a month despite having some laying around in my freezer pretty much at all times.

misophist,

Wait, spinach puffs up when you put it in the oven?!? Oil and spices or just straight-up frozen spinach directly in the oven?

Shorn, (edited )

A spinach puff is a pastry filled with spinach.

felixthecat, in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

Chicken noodle soup

Death_Equity, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I tried a cheap smartwatch to test out the concept to see if a smartwatch would add anything of value to my life before I spent hundreds on a good one.

I liked that I didn’t have to reach in my pocket to take my phone out to check the time, see what a text was, and take calls on speakerphone. The best use case was while I was working and that was very handy. The problem was that my job destroyed that cheap smartwatch in a couple weeks. I don’t have anywhere near the same utility outside of work. So no smartwatch for me despite wanting one, because technology.

Tangent5280,

What work do you do? Testing electromagnets or something?

Death_Equity,

Construction. Lots of abrasion, vibrations, moisture, impacts, various sealants, masonry dust, mortar mixes, etc. Basically it is not a great enviroment for electronics kept near your hands. I honestly expected the watch to last a few days and only my caution kept it going as long as it did. Though I did get it ripped off my wrist, the magnetic band sticking it to the truck saved it.

Tangent5280,

Oh yeah, that will do it. I wonder if a G-shock would fare better. Casio is making smartwatches now, though Im not sure if they’re from the G-Shock line. Maybe those would fare better.

TIL I could sort by top 12 or 6 hours. My default is hot. I change to new sometimes.

tankplanker, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I had a smart watch when they first came out and the experience was miserable, poor battery and slow response times. I know that’s improved now but it didn’t offer enough over and above what I can do with a chest strap HRM for exercise, my strap doesn’t even need the phone when I go out as it has offline storage.

I have a few mechanical watches I wear as accessories when going out that I love for their function, these will last decades. This is my other problem with smart watches, the battery isn’t going to last forever and the specs are eventually going to fall too far behind. I’m not spending hundreds on a good smart watch when I can buy a mechanical watch for the same price that lasts 10 times longer.
