I just really like it. It’s a really nice shade of orange.

MrMobile(Michael Fisher) - His video presentation skills 10/10, I specially love his series named when phones were fun, where he fondly talks about yesteryear phones and gadgets.

Harald Baldr - I may not go to all the places he goes, but the way he interacts with different people irrespective of the barrier of communication is commendable. The way he presents himself in his videos, I believe that’s him in real life as well. No fakery.

QueriesQueried, (edited ) in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

I would give a shout out to two makers, Frank Howarth and This Old Tony both do some amazing works in general. Tony does a good amount of metal work, while Frank is almost all about woodworking.

For some AI (sorta) stuff: Primer engaging way to learn about statistics I guess, I don’t know the right way to describe them but I always leave with something new.

For car stuff: Rob Dahm who is known for a wild RX7. Also publishes a lot of public data for the rotary community.

Junkyard Digs who does lots of classic car “restorations” or repairs. Generally tries to do the most accessible methods or tools.

Tofu Auto Works does mostly custom body kits and so on, shown in step by step processes with tips and reasons/preferences for doing things a certain way.

For gaming I’ll just throw City Planner Plays out there. He mainly plays Cities Skylines, and talks about how and why certain infrastructure is designed or used.

Editting to add: sorta (mostly) does gaming, also does other topics as well. Arch fantastic visuals and historical breakdowns of topics. Doesn’t have many videos, but they are quite good.

And purely because I’ve met him IRL and think his channel is very under viewed, About Here discusses city planning, accessibility and so on. A lot of it has to do with housing and it’s current issues, but has other city/civic related topics as well.

NAXLAB,

REAL ONES KNOW

RanchOnPancakes, (edited ) in What groups you are unwillingly associated with? How you handle it?
@RanchOnPancakes@lemmy.world avatar

I own a gun and I strongly think that you SHOULD be able to own one IF you meet the qualifications. But I think those qualifications should be more strict and the penalty for being unsafe with your guns should be to lose them. Forever.

Violent crimes in the past including domestic? Say bye bye to your guns. Can’t pass a background check? No exceptions.

Guns should be accessible to those who can pass strict check and removed permanently for behavior that is indicative of a potential problems.

But because I support the owning of guns I’m assumed to be one of … them. Ugh. Yucks.

I handle it by showing my disgust and trying to explain that just because I support something doesn’t mean that I fall in on a survey.

The entire gun “culture” is just toxic as fuck. To the point that if we ever do lose the right it will be their unwillingness to bend that causes it.

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E,

Sensible points you made!

surewhynotlem,

This is apparently a thing : socialistra.org

Technus,

I wish the Democrats in the US were less willfully ignorant about firearms so they’d pass less stupid and ineffectual legislation out of fear and/or pandering.

Every time California passes an “assault weapons ban” that targets a specific ergonomic feature (pistol grips, removable magazines, what the hell ever they’re focusing on now) and gun manufacturers find a work around before the bill even comes into effect, I just roll my eyes.

At this point I’m forced to assume it’s purely performative.

Psychodelic,

I too wish they could pass real gun control legislation that would result in less weapons on the streets and in people’s homes.

Unfortunately, all we can ever get passed are bs laws that gun nuts won’t bother to fight against, considering the massive amounts of political spending on “single-issue” voters that care more about being able to shoot their neighbors than they care about living under a democratic-elected government.

I mean, who needs functioning institutions when you have a fuckin gun?

Feathercrown, (edited )

Can’t they just ban auto/semi-auto? Or if those aren’t strict categories, define them, eg. “cannot shoot more than x bullets / second”? That one would likely be too broad but you get the idea.

Bort,

Banning semi auto would ban like 90 percent of guns :/

Feathercrown,

I feel an urge to say “oh well” but that’s my own bias shining through lol

someguy3, (edited )

Auto is banned. Everything is semi auto except bolt action rifles. All handguns are semi auto.

AlexWIWA,

Banning would piss off a lot of people. It’d be better to just place more restrictions on semi autos. Outright bans are very politically expensive.

Shard,

Case in point. Great video of all the work the manufacturer made to keep the gun compliant. Its quite funny when you look at it.

youtu.be/CcNS4JdprWc?si=1_MiJQ-DjyxUmLze

Technus,

ForgottenWeapons and InRangeTV are the only channels I still subscribe to, because they’re not constantly bitching about gun laws and parroting conservative talking points.

The one time I’ve actually seen Ian make a statement about pending legislation, and he’s coming at it from a very respectable angle, saying basically “this law is poorly worded and over-inclusive and I think it’s going to cause some serious issues”: youtube.com/shorts/aMHGtM051jc?si=nvB2q2vktbwBuUL…

I mean, it’s exactly what I was talking about. Politicians pushing terrible firearms legislation out of willful ignorance.

All it does is annoy and inconvenience lawful gun owners, and push the center-right further towards the MAGA crowd.

phillaholic,

It doesn’t matter. If liberals and centrists did nothing, they’d just fabricate that they were coming for guns. It’s a cult. Facts and Reason don’t come into it.

shalafi, (edited ) in What groups you are unwillingly associated with? How you handle it?

I’m very much into guns, have 35-45 or so, depending on your definition of “gun”. I particularly like buying old crappy ones and fixing them up. They aren’t “safe queens” either, I shoot every one of them at times, and shoot almost every weekend at my camp in the swamp.

I am liberal in about every other aspect and given the GOP’s behavior since Obama took office, I’m voting straight ticket D till the day I die. I loathe being lumped in with the right-wingers and their attitudes.

Decoy321,

Hello fellow liberal gun owner! It’s good to see more of us out here. It fucking annoys me to no end whenever we get lumped together with that nonsense.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited ) in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

I used to watch Big Clive and supported him on Patreon.

Then he started going off on wild shit about weird conspiracy theories about vapes being harmless, and government just wanting to get rid of them and lying about the lung damage or something to that accord… and of course, Covid had to come into it to, where he made wild claims about it just being a regular flu and the whole response was blown out of proportion and really dismissing it as a threat.

I dont know how far he’s fallen since then since I cancelled my patreon and fucked off from viewing.

gila,

JW what “the lung damage” you’re referring to? EVALI is widely understood to have been the result of people vaping black market thc carts with a thickening agent that is unsafe to vape. There hasn’t really been any specific general “damage” done to the lungs of the population by vaping otherwise. And as someone from Australia it’s hard to imagine ‘government just wanting to get rid of them’ as a conspiracy theory. They have been trying to get rid of them, they just suck at doing it.

Never heard Big Clive deny covid though, that’s off-putting.

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Where does he go off on conspiracy rants? I only ever watch his circuit teardown videos

A_Random_Idiot,

I dont know, it was like 3-4 years ago now. I didnt stick around to find out how much further down the stupid hole he planned to go.

themurphy, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Marques Brownlee for tech.

He’s also known as MKBHD, and he’s amazing with his camera work.

George Lucas

elbarto777,

Why?

starman2112, (edited )
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

OP never specified youtubers, just content creators

elbarto777,

Yeah, but why George Lucas? I know the prequels weren’t the best, but has he done anything else after them that you’d say is worse?

And the Disney sequels can’t be it since he wasn’t directly involved…

AnUnusualRelic,
@AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world avatar

He knew what he was doing when he sold to Disney.

elbarto777,

Hmmm… sure, but it’s not like he created the content, which is what the question is about…

jbk, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Berd, danooct1, Huggbees, Hugh Jeffreys, Michael MJD, NileRed, Ordinary Sausage, Sam O’Nella (barely), Tapakapa

At least that’s what I find great.

dog_,

Dan and Hugh in one group??? Never thought I’d see that before.

jbk, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Oh also Brick Experiment Channel for fun stuff with Lego.

Asafum, in What is your favourite Hex colour code?

because I’m a nerd, but a slightly different kind of nerd lol

jol, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

CGP Grey. His last 114 or so videos were literally just a single round of rock paper scissors each.

Kidding. His videos are still great.

Eyelessoozeguy,

Tbh I did fall off of his videos. His charm became smugness to me. I was excited to see his indian videos but then they never came. I used to listen to his podcasts but HI has been down for so long, and him and mike talking about making stuff lost interest when grey wasnt making that much stuff. It felt like he was cooking a huge pile of videos making they really good, but then we got hexagons. Maybe I have changed. Maybe I have.

tuhriel,

I went exactly the same route as you, loved his old videos, HI. At some point I started to listen to the one with Myke (Cortex - had to look up the name) . The first few episodes where quite interesting, but it got repetitive at around episode 50 or so…

Now even the few videos he releases don’t really get me anymore

jol,

Cortex is basically a yearly cycle of talking about iPhone releases, WWDC, yearly themes. I still enjoy it but the main topic of productivity is mostly lost at this point.

Eyelessoozeguy,

Is it us or did something change? I almost thought it had something to do with Brady tempering grey into not being so I dunno. It felt like Brady was getting frustrated with grey towards the end

MBM,

I hear historians hate him, for example because of the Americapox video. It’s heavily based on the book Guns, Germs and Steel without mentioning that it’s a theory many historians disagree with. /r/BadHistory has a wiki page dedicated to it.

While looking for this I also found economists unhappy with Humans Need Not Apply. In general I guess he has a tendency to confidently talk about things he’s not an expert on.

jol, (edited )

Ah yes, I also find some of his videos are totally incorrect. The humans need not apply one, as a public transit and cycling nerd, fails so hard to miss the point that we need less cars, not more and “smarter”.

Solo, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Just look up what creators are on nebula. Almost all of them creat high quality cpntent.

fpslem,

With a few exceptions and hold-outs still on YouTube only, I have found this to be generally true too.

cheesebag,

I agree, though is TLDR News that good? I see tons of their thumbnails but get weird vibes from them. Didn’t they repeat Russian propaganda?

OhmsLawn,

I’m honestly uncomfortable with TLDR. I haven’t checked up, but every time I watch an episode, it just feels off.

cheesebag,

Ok same!

craftyindividual, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Tom Scott

Curious Droid - lots of sci fi, technology content.

WaterlineStories - all sorts of nautical/diving disasters narrated by a South African chap with a lot of experience.

Qxir - Irish guy with a lot of weird stories told in stick figure form.

Plainly Difficult - a lot of disasters frequently nuclear.

Nile Red is still fun - and a nice dude. Chemistry

Vince Vintage is hilarious, great editing (like internet historian but not a jerk)

Also my homeboy Video Game Dunkey.

Dreading is good(sort of successor to JCS), very sober and tasteful host discussing true crime.

douglasg14b, (edited )
@douglasg14b@lemmy.world avatar

Qxir?

I found too many of their videos have unsubstantiated claims, and illogical/wrong conclusions drawn from inaccurate or incomplete information.

While they may have high production value at a glance, the quality of the information itself is about as good as any other social media thread.

It’s really disappointing to me cuz I would love their videos but I just can’t keep watching them with such inaccuracies…

craftyindividual,

Fair enough. I really enjoy his delivery. He’s not perhaps the most researched or precise YouTuber but I like the subjects he covered.
