vortexal, (edited ) in So, who or what ruined Christmas this year?
@vortexal@sopuli.xyz avatar

I wouldn’t say that anything ruined Christmas for me this year but there was some unfortunate circumstances with some of my gifts.

For example, I asked for an original Xbox controller with a USB adapter. I got them and they work perfectly fine in Linux but they don’t work at all in Windows, which potentially limits how much usage I can get out of them. Apparently, Windows 10 blocks the drivers required to use the adapter, which if I had known I probably would’ve just asked for a generic USB Xbox controller instead (if they exist).

Miimikko, in What’s your go to driving song?

Nightcall by Kavinsky

scytale, in What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

You can absolutely configure the default search engine on your browser to a custom one in some cases. I use startpage and it isn’t in the default options, but it can be added.

Rai, in What’s your go to driving song?

Since getting a car with a sub, lotsa Clipping., UGK, Ghostemane, Venetian Snares, Tiiper…

Most played song lately is probably ‘96 Neve Campbell.

Evil_Shrubbery, in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

Suki!

It’s short for ‘Suki suki! Five dolla’ (Cartman, 1998).

Zozano, in What word do you always forget?

I have ADHD, so pretty much every word when I need it most.

rouxdoo, in What's the best approach/pathway to learning iOS development?
@rouxdoo@lemmy.world avatar

Download Xcode and build a couple of small projects to get your feet wet. It is a really intuitive environment to code in. You don’t need to pay anything to learn.

Colour_me_triggered, in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

Smalehove

Joker, in What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

Kagi is the best around if you are willing to pay. If I had to cancel my subscription for whatever reason, I would go back to DDG.

cashews_best_nut,

Do you like to swim in your cash vault like Scrooge McDuck?

kzhe,

Kagi really isn’t that pricy.

nicetomeetyouIMVEGAN, (edited ) in Lottery winner

Look at what the justice Democrats have done. They put highly progressive people in power. It’s not a simple task.

You have to find the right candidates to put the money behind. Cover the expenses and make sure they can put all their time in their campaign.

vrighter, in What word do you always forget?

ichbinjasokreativ, in What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

Brave search is also really good now

cyberpunk007,

Brave statement

ichbinjasokreativ,

Ican only speak of my own experience. Finding what I’m looking for and not having to deal with the insane amount of ads on google and the likes is worth it to me to make a recommendation.

kzhe,

People aren’t downgotinf because you’re right or wrong, but because Brave is homophobic.

kzhe,

brave is pretty widely disliked by people (including me) for it’s CEO’s homophobia. That’s probably why you’re being down voted.

Joker, in Hot tub owners: any tips? any regrets?

Nothing but regrets. What I imagined and what I got are two very different things. I was thinking party time and sexy date night with the wifey. Instead, it’s a big ass chemistry set that also attracts pests.

I never saw a rat outside until they set up shop inside where the pump and all the plumbing is. I have no idea how they got in there. I smelled something dead and it took a while to figure out it was in there. Unscrewed the panels on the side and found a whole nest in there and a decomposing rat. Another time, a bunch of nasty frogs got into the water even though it was covered.

Aside from that, it was a nuisance to maintain. There’s always something a little off with the water. I spent more time maintaining and cleaning that damn thing than I ever spent relaxing in it. Then the cover eventually wore out from being in the sun. That was like $500 to replace.

That hot tub was nothing but an expensive mistake.

jflorez, in What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

DuckDuckGo on Firefox. If you truly want to de-google your life avoid Chrome and Chromium based browsers like Edge and Brave

Xatolos,
@Xatolos@reddthat.com avatar

DuckDuckGo is Bing. It’s just stripped of Microsoft “extras”.

TheMadnessKing,

But it doesn’t track you. So, better Privacy

cyberpunk007,

How so? It existed before bing.

imkali,

They have changed the way they gather results since they first launched.

cyberpunk007,

Ok so it’s a bing proxy basically?

kzhe,

DDG uses Bing for 100% of its results.

Jourei,

Interesting, when DDG fails to give me anything worth while, I go to Bing and usually get what I’m looking for.

cyberpunk007,

People use bing? I find the results just like a dogs breakfast. Such a mess.

Jourei,

I use bing more and more. It’s not fantastic but feels like it’s on track to be ome better than google.

LastYearsPumpkin,

It used to be Google search without the extras.

ghostdoggtv, (edited ) in Corporate Censorship Bring You Here?

It wasn’t about censorship, it was about the platform losing respect for its users.

This wasn’t my reddit handle if that’s what you’re wondering next, have fun looking.
