RandomVideos, in Lemmings in school, what are they teaching about drug addiction, fentanyl, and opiods?

We were supposed to talk about drugs for 2 years, but instead talked about bullying

We got a school project about drugs a couple years ago, but it was only one option out of a list of subjects for the project(i think, i dont remember exactly)

some_guy, in what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?

Get hammered that night. Will once again win my low-stakes game.

some_guy,

I won again!

intensely_human,

Get hammered

I guess that’s one way to get low stakes

ccf, in Lemmings in school, what are they teaching about drug addiction, fentanyl, and opiods?
@ccf@lemmy.world avatar

They mostly taught me about drug classifications and effects. Not really anything in-depth about addiction

otp, in I am to celebrate new years eve alone. How can I celebrate solo?

If you have Animal Crossing New Horizons for the Switch, you can celebrate with your animal villagers

I asked my cousins who are in high school. They don’t seem to be fed as much moral panic bullshit as I was. People who smoke marijuana aren’t doomed to hell, drug users aren’t all “worthless” welfare drags. It goes hand in hand with the improved education they are getting on mental health and addiction.

The main scare push sounds to be around drugs of unknown provenance. Like, don’t take unknown pills offered to you at a party where you can be whisked away by a stranger once you drop unconscious. Or die a painful death due to dirty drugs cut with who knows what.

Their school has Narcan doses in the med station.

Our town used to have a needle program but current leadership tipped back more conservative and they got rid of those types of programs. My cousins think that’s bullshit; they are well aware of the low efficacy of abstinence-only programs.

I asked them if they knew about the old D.A.R.E. program of the 80s and 90s. One had a decent idea of what it was, the other thought it was a meme; she had only ever seen ~millenial-aged casual drug users wear D.A.R.E T-shirts so she thought the whole thing was meant to be ironic.

For context, I grew up in the Midwest, middle school and high school from the late 90s into the early 00s. The referenced cousins and I live in New England now.

AnneBonny, in What's your favorite instrument that really gets through to you?

Fungah, in How to respond to gf saying "I'm fat"

My gf has been asking me repeatedly if I think she’s a cow.

I said no for about a month or so when I remembered what I’d told her not lokgn after we started dating: I’m just going to agree with anything negative you say about yourself until you stop saying it.

Responding with things like: yes, yes I do… or: MOOOOOOO. Or: yeah, a dn sexy cow, lemme see them milkers, seems to have put a stop to it quick. Or any of the self deprecating tracks she tends to get on.

It seems to be the only thing that gets her off these weird self de}reacting spirals for some reason

She kept on asking if she looked like a Teletubby for a while so I kept saying . “Tubby custard” at weird times and it stopped.

If this sounds mean, I’m very supportive and often compliment her )looks / accomplishments and she usually laughs when it happens. It’s not done with malice and we both laugh at it.

LightningSteve, (edited ) in How do you grow your Twitch/YouTube Channels?

Consistent schedule for uploading/streaming.

Focus on quality content/retaining viewers

Collaborate with other content creators in the same genre

Don’t sexually harass fans/don’t send creepy or cringe dms

Keep your grades up.

Get half decent audio equipment. Doesn’t need to be the most expensive (quality content can make up for this short-term but not for long)

Usually for earlier channels, it’s easier to make better content with a partner/small group until you find your personality.

Titles and thumbnails matter more than you think.

Don’t force it, but keep an eye out for clippable moments and share them where they would be relevant

You’re first 2 points especially matter. I like browsing low views/newer channels/streams and I’m sorry but I’m not interested in the 200th all day league streamer. I watch wubby fairly often and he streams 3ish hours 3 days a week. A decent length at a regular schedule. I have a friend who streams for roughly 8ish people ::: spoiler spoiler every day but she does it for about an hour and a half at the same time and both of these people interact with the audience/content they’re doing.

I know some people prefer completely silent streams with just gameplay but the majority of people who go to twitch do it for the social aspect.

QaspR, in After a lifetime against, I'm considering joining social media. Any advice?

Honestly, I’d stick with the Fediverse. At least on here you have some rights and no one (probably) will sell your information to advertisers. LinkedIn is an okay platform if you’re looking to grow your career through social media.

couggod, in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

5.25 inch drive bays on computer cases.

Mostly_Gristle, in Lemmings without bidet: how do you deal with your period?

Portable bidets are a thing. Basically a squeeze bottle with a special nozzle to direct the stream. Periods aren’t something I have to deal with, so I really don’t know what kind of cleanup is required, but it seems like it would be better than nothing.

key, in Ancient wisdom often sounds like common sense now that it is commomly taught. What is some ancient wisdom that we no longer teach because it was wrong?
@key@lemmy.keychat.org avatar

The best thing to do when grandma dies is to keep her body under your bed!

In Tonga it’s still a common practice to bury relatives in front of your home.

cheese_greater, in Lemmings without bidet: how do you deal with your period?

Bidet, mate

ChefTyler1980,

Reading comprehension issue?

cheese_greater,

So its impossible for them to get a bidet? I didn’t exactly comprehend that part either…

ChefTyler1980,

The reason OP is without bidet is irrelevant to the question.

cheese_greater, (edited )

Not to put too fine a point on it but if OP said

  • can’t be/have toilet paper or any wipe
  • i refuse to wipe

Are we to go along with that as well and have it reflected in the calculus?

Sometimes you actually have to color a bit outside the lines in order to adequately provide guidance or actually good advice. And everyone but the OP has seemed to speak louder and more presumptively on this than OP themself so I’m going to respectfully end this exchange and hopefully OP can chime in more if its relevant for them to do so.

ObsidianZed, in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

I know most people here knock the always on display, but my Samsung has the option to only show if I tap the screen or a notification comes through. I also use the option that blinks a certain color light around the perimeter of the screen and/or the in screen camera so it effectively simulates that old led.
