DoomBot5, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

As long as Hamas still stands there won’t be any reconstruction. They take all the concrete imported to build their terror tunnels instead.

AlmightySnoo,
@AlmightySnoo@lemmy.world avatar

Being downvoted to oblivion simply for stating what Hamas themselves are bragging about, they’re the ones boasting them being able to turn water pipes into rockets and construction materials into bombs. But of course anyone supporting Hamas will never tell you openly that they do so, so those internet warriors express their support for the terrorists instead “anonymously” with downvotes.

NoIWontPickaName,

Here's something really clear. Fuck Hamas and their terrorist attacks.

Here's something even more clear. Fuck Israel and their murdering innocents, stealing land, killing children, killing journalists and all the other shit.

Why do you only condemn the symptoms and not the cause.

tallwookie,

because the solution to the cause is what’s occurring now.

NoIWontPickaName,

And what is that solution and how do you feel about it?

tallwookie,

the solution is what is happening in Gaza right now

pizzazz, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

Yeah but he did science, not that new age bullshit you think are an expert in.

ForgotAboutDre,

Columbus thought the world was pear shaped. Meaning it was viable to get to India by going west. If the Americas didn’t exist he would have died.

It was well known at the time that the world was round. The ancient Greeks had a very good calculation if the circumference of the earth.

GrayBackgroundMusic, in Can anyone recommend terrible horror films?

Freddy vs Jason was billed as a horror film but it’s really funny, imo. I don’t like horror. They leaned into the cheesey bits.

NickwithaC,
@NickwithaC@lemmy.world avatar

You might like Drag Me To Hell which was also billed as a horror but was definitely a send-up.

And Happy Deathday which is a comedy-horror Groundhog Day with a little heart thrown in for good vibes.

GrayBackgroundMusic,

thanks, i’ll check them out.

sagrotan, in Most people rather be electronically shocked than left alone with their thoughts?
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a distinct line between social/sense deprivation torture and simple inner reflection or meditation. Just saying. It’s maybe for every individual different, but there definitely is.

Given how Iran actively funds the rockets that are being launched from residential rooftops in Gaza, and how Qatar is casually financing the lavish lifestyles of the Hamas leaders living in Qatar (enjoying paradise on earth while they convince their jihadists of committing terror in the hopes of entering paradise after death), I don’t think it would be a problem for them to also spare some money for the reconstruction, right?

Iran’s oil revenue should be seized and their money in foreign banks should be frozen until we arrive at the reconstruction process, assuming the war even ends, so that the frozen assets pay for that, both for Gaza and Israel.

@deadcatbounce@reddthat.com avatar

Can I remind you that the US has already had a hand in replacing the leadership once and how that turned out.

AlmightySnoo, (edited )
@AlmightySnoo@lemmy.world avatar

That’s besides the point, my comment didn’t exclude any other financing, feel free to argue for others also chipping in. Now, why would you be opposed to forcing Iran to pay for their sponsoring of terrorism? Why do you believe Iran shouldn’t pay?

deadcatbounce,
@deadcatbounce@reddthat.com avatar

I’m not.

I’m against the US interfering militarily covertly or otherwise in matters because it usually ends up creating more of a mess than it was before.

gravitas_deficiency,

Fair point. Perhaps you know who was the major player. I really can’t tell which one: BP or The United States? So difficult to tell.

NoIWontPickaName, (edited )

Is Israel going to pay even more for funding hamas and helping to create support them in the first place?

AtmaJnana, (edited )

That’s a conspiracy theory. I spent 30 minutes searching and found no evidence Israel ever materially supported Hamas. At most they tolerated and maybe encouraged them as a counterweight to Fatah.

NoIWontPickaName,

I found one where they controlled the purse strings and talked about how keeping Hamas helped them keep Palestine down.

I'll give you opinion but not conspiracy theory

  • NoIWontPickaName,

    Let me make this plain for you.

    Support innocents on both sides.

    Fuck Hamas and Israel both for their actions against innocents.

    Now will you say the same or try to call me antisemitic again?

    I might he wrong, about them supporting Hamas but I doubt Israeli newspapers would lie about about Netanyahu supporting Hamas and funding them years ago.

    I believe it was a times of Israel article but i will see if i can find and link it

    TheBananaKing, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

    They don’t want to reconstruct it, they want to raze it to the ground and kill everyone, then oh look free land.

    Susaga, in What's the best response to someone who believes in hard determinism but also uses this to deny responsibility for any immoral actions they commit?
    @Susaga@ttrpg.network avatar

    There’s an episode of the Good Place where they discuss this exact thing (well, replace “immoral” with “romantic”, but still), and I’m pretty sure the motivations are the same. They don’t actually believe in determinism as much as they claim, but they don’t want to be responsible for their actions and determinism is a good excuse they can use. You can’t use logic to get them out of this belief, because it wasn’t logic that made them believe it to begin with.

    banana_meccanica, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

    No one will pay, there is no reconstruction on planning, that is an eternal war there will be never a winner and there is no sense to build on an battlefield.

    SHamblingSHapes, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

    It will be a political debate point for decades to come, as how to support Israel has been a point of debate for decades past.

    US politics at the foreign policy level can change dramatically every election cycle. I can’t guess what their policies might be in the next 1, 5, 10 years.

    Pons_Aelius,

    US politics at the foreign policy level can change dramatically every election cycle.

    Yes, they can but they don't.

    Bitrot,
    @Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    They won’t in this case. Israel can do nearly anything, the US will even condemn some of them, but that won’t affect support. As Biden has said many times “if there was no Israel the US would have to invent an Israel to protect her interests in the region.”

    tallwookie,

    the ideology changes though!

    ElderWendigo, in Can anyone recommend terrible horror films?

    Orgy of the Dead starts off like it’s going to be your standard weird bad Ed Wood horror movie. We get to meet Criswell, who you might recognize as inspiration for a character in Fright Night among others. There’s also an Elvira type character before Elvira did it better. But then suddenly it’s just a topless woman go-go dancing in a fake graveyard. The whole thing suddenly feels like an softcore porn parody of a Gilligan’s Island episode. The scene ends, and you might think “Gee, maybe they’ll move on to a different location or move the plot along somehow?” Nope, you get a short narration scene and then the next woman comes out with a slightly different costume and dance, still topless though. That scene ends and you think “Well they can’t possibly do that again, so maybe now the ‘plot’ will move along.” Nope! More narration, and another topless dancing woman. By the third girl I was bored. But it was funny again with the fourth. With the fifth woman, I gritted my teeth and thought, “When will this end?” But, by the seventh dancing topless woman it was hilarious. Each one of these dancing girls was almost identical, just slightly different slutty costumes and music. At some point they introduce a Zombie and a Wolf man character to leer at the women along with jerk boyfriend and scared girl tied to a post. After it was clear that the ninth topless dancing girl was the last, I felt immense relief and raised a glass to that mad genius Criswell. Those 92 minutes felt like days. This is not a movie to watch sober and alone during the day.

    calypsopub, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

    “Settled science.” Used by people who don’t understand that science at its heart is constantly questioning everything.

    Hylactor, (edited )

    We’re taught that intelligence is performative. So most people think intelligence is answer driven, clever people know that it’s question driven. But a gameshow where contestants ask the right questions might not do as well as Jeopardy.

    Edit: my dumb ass picks the gameshow where you famously have to literally ask the right questions as an example.

    tankplanker, in Would you say enthusiast grade or business grade products are better quality?

    People mix up duty cycle with build quality and functionality when talking about business vs. high end enthusiast gear.

    Take a (random) example of an espresso machine or coffee grinder made for a coffee shop that can do 1000s of shots day in, day out, they tend to cost a small fortune. Compare that to a similarly priced home machine and the home machine cannot do that number of shots, just a hundred or so day in, day out, but will have way more functionality that an enthusiast will get value out of. Does a home espresso machine need to be able to do 1000s of shots per day over a 5 to 10 year period? Does it fuck.

    Another example would be the duty cycle on a high end NAS or SAN drive that is designed for 1000x more reads and writes, never being turned off, etc. vs. a high performance enthusiast drive.

    Buy the duty cycle you actually need.

    JustZ,

    I talked about the same thing in terms of hospitality televisions like you find in a hotel lobby or airport; on 365 days a year, at full brightness so you can see it from across the room. I bet a consumer TV would start to come literally unglued after a several weeks if made to work like that. Duty cycles is the term, and your advice to buy the cycle rating that you need is perfect.
