Traister101, (edited ) in USA priorities

No dude it’s literally everybody who wants them bombed. They are attacking civilian trade vessels. They were warned by the UN and shit. It’s not the USA going out of its way to bomb brown people it’s the USA bombing people who have continued to purposely interrupt international trade after being told explicitly there will be consequences. They were/are breaking international fucking law.

Edit: Ohhhhh I just saw Ops user name “VictimOfAmerikkka” which that in addition to their rather repulsive post history explains why they are acting like such a mouth breather

ghost_of_faso2,
@ghost_of_faso2@lemmygrad.ml avatar

acting like running zionist propoganda and being pro-genocide such as yourself puts you in a morally superior position, eat shit.

Traister101,

When did I say I’m pro genocide? Jesus christ what a strawman. Genocide is bad, it’s hypocritical for the US to get so freaky over this when there’s an active genocide happening but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong to get freaky over maritime trade vessels being threatened. They were breaking international law and were told explicitly by the UN among others to knock it the fuck off or there would be consequences.

ghost_of_faso2,
@ghost_of_faso2@lemmygrad.ml avatar

And are we meant to act like we should be listening to the genociders or to the people resisting them? Not a strawman, its a response to your point.

No, only the imperialist powers

They are attacking civilian trade vessels.

They are attacking “trade vessels” delivering to Israel, which is genociding people.

It’s not the USA going out of its way to bomb brown people

Lol!! That is literally all the USA does. The USA is the number exporter of genocide of brown people. They even kill their brown people every day and put them in concentration camps to serve as slaves aka prisons.

people who have continued to purposely interrupt international trade after being told explicitly there will be consequences.

People who are acting out of solidarity for the Palestinian people and who are actually forcing the hand of the imperialist powers by disrupting the trade to the Zionist entity

They were/are breaking international fucking law.

Laws put in place by the colonizers who decide to use their waters without their consent lol

You are being brainwashed by imperialist propaganda 🤣

Oddly enough that’s an average of 10 points per comment.

Also I can’t see total up votes in Sync, or I haven’t figured out where that is, so I don’t know if the total karma is correct, but I can see they’ve only made 27 comments in 4 months.

Boost for Lemmy (evolved from Boost for reddit) just continues to call it karma: https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/599f1a28-9c93-4b6a-9f2e-18f5686f5de0.png

_cnt0,

I live close to the Alps in Bavaria. I’ll be skiing soon ;-)

thorbot,

Vermont is a little further from the Bavarian Alps than Montana is from the mountain that 40 mins away

NightAuthor,

And what if I hate skiing ?

thorbot,

Then you are lost

NightAuthor,

Jk, I can’t hate something I’ve never done. I understand that its expensive, and often consists of short bursts of fun followed by lots of waiting. I’ll probably give it a go once.

thorbot, (edited )

It’s an investment at first, if you want to go a lot. but once you have the gear it’s only about $50 a day to get 6+ hours of skiing in, or if you rent about $100 a day for rented gear and tickets. Lifts only take like 10-15 minutes to get you to the top of the mountain and you can hit 3 runs or more on the way down. You’ll spend more time actually skiing than waiting if you go to a modern mountain with the fast lifts. And the exhilaration you get from bombing down the mountain is unmatched by anything else. On top of the fresh air and beautiful views, it is pure joy.

NightAuthor,

I think there aren’t as many places to ski around Portland, so the ones that do exist are packed, I’ve read consistently that most of the time, you’re waiting to take the lift, waiting to do your run, and then back to waiting for the lift. But if you don’t have a 9-5 you can get out there when others are working and its great.

Also, $100 for a day of entertainment is a splurge. I have a decent income and probably only spend that much on a day-activity once every quarter or 2.

Apparently this is largely a myth, somebody did try it on a single occasion but it doesn’t actually work to spread smallpox. That guy was clearly an arsehole, but yeah, apparently it wasn’t a thing. I don’t know how important this is given the near total genocide of the Native Americans, but it’s funny how some things become “common knowledge” and some things never really get out. Soap made of Jews is another one - it was apparently an urban legend at the time due to the letters written on the rationed bars of soap. Again, more than enough evil to go around without the soap. It does seem that one insane commandants wife collected people’s tattooed skin and likely did make a lampshade out of human skin. People say that didn’t happen, but there’s a pretty convincing photograph out there of all the seized items at one camp. Can’t remember why I started talking about this, think I was trying to distract myself from a stomachache.

BCsven,

Americans forget their history because it is not widely taight to them, so the smallpox prevails, but history channel put together a good summary of American Genocide history.com/…/native-americans-genocide-united-st…

match, (edited )
@match@pawb.social avatar

the fact that in an era with relatively few records, there is a recorded intentional attempt to spread smallpox (even if incompetent) is plenty to assert that the Europeans intentionally spread smallpox

edit: the CDC does say contaminated bedding can spread smallpox. reconsider the sources telling you it’s a myth

Why Americans are suddenly so touchy about their school shootings, obesity and healthcare?

x4740N,
@x4740N@lemmy.world avatar

Imagine justifiably criticising a bad trait that someone has in the hopes of having them improve

Most people are going to take that as a threat because they hold that trait deer to them and / or view it as a part of a themselves

americans are likely viewing the criticism as a threat to themselves and their country and are responding with emotionally fueled responses instead of logic based responses

americans should learn to meditate because it can help with the issue of wanting to respond to percived threats emotionally

UsernameIsTooLon, (edited )

You’re speaking pretty large for an American for not being a school shooter yourself

But as an American who meditates, that is not the answer lol.

We have a bigger issue with the media trying to make us feel like everything outside is scary first. A lot of fear mongering to keep the scared gun owners to buy and advocate for more until a mentally deranged one goes too far and ruins it for everyone else. The media can now sensationalize that shooting and you get either people buying more guns or people advocating for no guns and neither side wants to hear each other anymore. It’s one big crazy chain reaction loop we’re stuck in and the politicians got the crazies advocating for things that would just make the politicians more money. Sigh.

Funkytom467,
@Funkytom467@lemmy.world avatar

Yes saying we can do something about it and do better is stupid. Same here in Europe btw, no one has the power to do anything about media and capitalism fucking us over.

However i still think we can joke about it as a way to communicate our problems and relieve ourselves from the tragic.

(Of course that requires some empathy and a shared humour to overcome our cultural differences.)

platypus_plumba,

Accepting it is a low hanging fruit is the saddest thing I’ve read today. It’s so obvious our society is fucked! Don’t you have something more creative to say, dumbass?

AVincentInSpace, (edited )

Because – and this might be a hot take – I don’t think it should be socially acceptable to bring up a recent national tragedy as a fucking punchline

We’ve been voting. We’re trying to get the rules changed and we’re getting stonewalled by people who only listen to media that makes up reasons for them to hate things that would be good for the masses because it would be bad for a few people at the top and I’m sick to fucking death of people making fun of us for it and treating actual dying children as some sort of own. For Christ’s sake, have some fucking empathy. None of us, not even the furthest-right conservatives, think this is okay, and we’re trying to do something about it, and it doesn’t help when you’re like “haha look at all the dead children, isn’t it funny how stupid Americans are”

Default_Defect,
@Default_Defect@midwest.social avatar

I wish I could say people were trying to stop school shootings in my area. I live in PERRY FUCKING IOWA, about a mile from the very school that was shot up, and all I fucking see from anyone around here is thoughts and prayers, wear a blue shirt, Perry Strong!!

It’s embarrassing.

Seasoned_Greetings, (edited )

None of us, not even the furthest-right conservatives, think this is okay

Aguably, conservatives may not think it’s ok but they’re so scared of losing their guns (because their politicians say dems will take them so they can get elected) that conservatives consider dead kids an acceptable loss. If they didn’t, more of them would vote for the party that wants to control who can obtain them.

ECB,

Or, arguably even more importantly, conservatives argue that this is actually about ‘mental health issues’ but then subsequently refuse to do anything to improve mental health. So they don’t even bother trying their own proposed solution.

You would think at this point that the US would have the most robust mental-healthcare system on the planet!

ExLisper,

Americans: USA is the greatest country in the world. Behold our God given rights and freedoms! We’re number 1! We’re exceptional! U! S! A! U! S! A!

Europeans: Actually it’s pretty arrogant to think your country is so much better than all the other. All countries have flaws and strengths. For example USA have problems with gun violence and healthcare.

Americans: How dare you make fun of our national tragedies! Can’t you see we’re suffering here? You’re making fun of dead children! You MONSTERS!!

Not that’s a meme. Which template should I use?

AVincentInSpace,

Americans: USA is the greatest country in the world. Behold our God given rights and freedoms! We’re number 1! We’re exceptional! U! S! A! U! S! A!

that’s a nice strawman you’ve got there

ExLisper,
AVincentInSpace,

“I have a Wikipedia article about people who do this. I therefore conclude that all Americans do this.”

ExLisper,

Oh, I see where you got confused. When people say ‘Americans do something’ they mean ‘most Americans do it’ or ‘significant portion of American population do it’, not ‘all Americans do it’. You see, countries are big and there are a lot of people in them and it very rare for everyone in a country to think exactly the same. That’s why we usually focus on the prevailing attitudes that shape the country over the years instead of looking for believes shared by ALL citizens (because they don’t exists). Currently over 40% of Americans believe that “God has granted America a special role in human history” and it was way higher in the not so distant past, that’s why someone could say that “Americans believe it”. Hope this helps.

AVincentInSpace,

No American I’ve ever met, online or off, believes this. Hope this helps.

ExLisper,

“It doesn’t exist in my bubble so the researchers are wrong”.

AVincentInSpace, (edited )

“Some Americans believe this, therefore the Americans who don’t and are actually trying to fix this Godforsaken country, and get upset when people accuse them of believing it, are hypocrites and crybabies who can’t take criticism.”

ExLisper,

I know how you feel but you have to understand that the memes are not about you personally. We know that most Americans on lemmy are the cool ones. The ones that don’t have guns and are not afraid of socialism. The memes are about the other Americans and, you know, we’re just joshing. I though that’s obvious, that’s why I asked why everyone is suddenly so touchy about it. Usually the cool Americans are in on the joke. Now they are all sensitive about it. It’s just weird.

AVincentInSpace, (edited )

Thank you for that. But I’m having a hard time believing that one comment from me reflects the feelings of “everyone”

Like I don’t know if you’ve seen the rest of this thread but…

Zoboomafoo,
Funkytom467, (edited )
@Funkytom467@lemmy.world avatar

I do agree that we need more empathy. But that empathy can and should be used to have a better humour.

Because i can’t stress enough how humour is important in dealing with tragedy. It’s one of the greatest tool to overcome it.

That’s why you also see American joking about it. Only their jokes might be funnier than European’s because they know and emphasize better with the tragedy.

On the other hand, one thing we do share is trying to change without any or not enough results. That’s something most countries know about in this day and age. Media and corrupt system is something European’s deals with too.

So i get your anger, it’s also good, it’s a driving force for us to continue trying to change, however helpless we feel.

alex,

Idk wtf is wrong with all of my countrymen, those are three things we NEED to change.

It’s so fucking funny to me because they’re probably the same type of Americans that are like “oH aMeRiCa iS sO tOuGh nOt lIkE tHoSe SiSsY cOuNtRiEs iN tHe EU” but here they are all butt hurt when other countries make VERY VALID CRITICISMS about us

Anticorp, in Dont be fooled by cable news

Eh… Most of us see our country as somewhere in-between now a days.

OceanSoap,

Yeah, this meme is fine, but it also goes the other way. Media runs off negative news and fear, and what the rest of the world is seeing is our media.

Souroak, in Which pill do you choose?

Could you imagine the psychological damage of having your adult mind shoved back into your 6 year old self? You’d be unable to relate to or even tolerate any of your peers, so say goodbye to any childhood friendships. You’d be unstimulated by the mountain of busy work in school and frustrated by all the topics you’d have to relearn. I personally would go through all of the procrastination troubles again. There are plenty of traumatic events that you would not be able to prevent or even affect. Nevermind that you are still carrying that trauma with you, you’re just trying to not re-live it. Develop any chronic illnesses? Maybe you can get treated quicker but you still have to watch your health decline. It’ll be a decade before you have any kind of autonomy to do any stocks or Bitcoin type stuff, unless you want to become some prophetic wünderkind. As far as I’m aware, mt gox was one of the only reliable places to get Bitcoin, until it wasn’t. I don’t know the day that it fell apart off the top of my head.

Appwiz.cpl, ncpa.cpl, desk.cpl and mmsys.cpl. I use all the time… ever since win 8 changed all the settings ui. That new ui, while getting better since 8 still sucks since the old control panel. I hope they never remove it since windows is still the name of the game for end users (even in some software dev environments).

Here’s a list of cpl, you just use them at run or even the windows search. www.itechtics.com/control-panel-applets-cpl/
