And at the same time, we europeans who have been in the USA (so we just don’t follow what media wants us to think) love so many things in the USA. Are the States flawed? Yes. Are Europeans country flawed too? Absolutely. I don’t like the bullying the world thing, but I’m happy I’m on ‘tesm bullying’ and not ‘team Russia’ or middle east.
Many things. Great things like general kindness of the people, the way the States handle national parks, the mentality of taking responsibility about your own live. And just mundane things like those awesome bbqs!
That one is fun because you concede most of it but then win an argument that fahrenheit is better (Celsius and fahrenheit are both arbitrary but at least fahrenheit scales itself so the range most people use daily, weather, is 0-100)
I think he’s missing the important part of that 0-100 scale… It marks fairly decently what isn’t safe for people without proper precautions. I’ve gone out below freezing and while it isn’t pleasant by any mean, you aren’t super fucked until you get super low. Likewise, get above 100 and it quickly stops becoming safe for humans without frequent breaks and such
Wrong.
A middle eastern dude would tell you a 100 is fine and a northern canadian will probably tell you to stop bothering them because they are turning into a puddle.
0 is very cold, 100 is very hot. So 50 is perfect room temperature, right?
Nope, you still have to adjust to an arbitary selection of numbers within that range, so it’s not really any more helpful than celcius if you don’t have experience with the scale.
while you’re correct they’re both arbitrary scales and I’ve heard this argument before but still think it’s a dumb argument.
Water freezes 0 water boils 100, i guess it fits the base 10 thing.
I think you feel the human 0 to 100 idea works because it’s what you’re used to. 0 to 40 works fine for me to intuitively know how hot or cold it is becuase it’s what i grew up with too. Neither can be argued that one is more right.
although it really makes sense for the USA to just finally switch because it’s long been decided by the rest of the planet this is the better way to measure things. media.tenor.com/…/simpsons-homer.gif
Yes I know that water does certain things at the “nice” numbers in Celsius. Who cares though? What’s so special about water? I’m not boiling water that often, and in my life I’ve never checked the temperature of water when doing so or have had to care about specific numbers then. Of all substances why does water get to be the one we base everything around?
i guess it’s just one of those cool science observations water freezes (and technically melts) at 0 and boils at 100 (at sea level). it fits the base 10 and we just think it’s neat.
i mean probs we should be using degrees Kelvin if we want to be less arbitrary. I’m down for the switch.
Which ruined looking for recipes online and using Google search operators to filter put american recipes is irritating because you have to fine tune and repeat based on the google results until all american recipes are filtered out
I only know English and am currently learning japanese but I can only form & read simple scentences in japanese and haven’t learned how to do complex ones yet
Honestly if I hadn’t switched to Linux 10 years ago I would’ve said that this would be the thing to set me off and switch. (This was my work computer, and even though Ubuntu is available, Linux users are second-class citizens in my shop…all sorts of weird issues and not nearly enough support because it’s a very limited offering)
It’s incredibly frustrating. It’s more than muscle memory at this point, it’s practically instinct. It’s so anti-user and there’s no reason to do it except to bring paint into the fold of all the other ribbon office apps, as if people haven’t been complaining about everything wrong about ribbon for what, 8 years now?
I mean… disrupting international trade is just asking for trouble.
That’s not even a “capitalism bad” thing; it’s just a matter of fact that safe international trade needs to be a thing in order to have a global economy
“Internationally recognized” not by Yemen. The Yemeni had no saying on that. That is just imperialist appropriating Yemeni’s waters and then using their influence to validate their claim. What you are spreading is gross imperialist propaganda.
Its just halted right ? the ships will be eventually let go they are not looting or attacking them are they ? If just halted i dont think there is need to respond that extremely correct me though
Not halted; The Houthi movement has been firing missiles and sending drones at civilian vessels. They were given fair warning to stop by the coalition members of Operation Prosperity Guardian, and continued to attack anyway.
The Houthis also gave fair warning to the ships to go back and they just turned off their radios and continued anyway to provide aid to a genocidal entity. The Houthis are trying to help Palestine not to be genocided. Any response to a genocidal entity is justified.

For some additional context, Houthi members have been attacking commercial ships using internationally recognized shipping lanes, and opened fire on US military aircraft. Whether or not the bombing is justified, the narrative that “people are in Yemen territorial waters” is gross misinformation at best.

Windows 11 had a link to that in under the advanced network options.
I say had as a recent update just took it away. They added a new advanced settings to replace the network connections part you linked to, but it is still missing options. Almost 10 years of the new settings and still no way to enable split tunneling on a vpn in the new UI.
I’m 90% sure that is the only way to change settings past just showing what you are connected to. Does/can anyone actually use settings over the control panel tools?
If you work on as many servers and desktops as I do, you’ll eventually encounter machines that have slow loading start menus and search, or search the web for some stupid ass reason instead. I’ll save that time with adding R. Still a 1 handed move anyhow
If you’re such a server and desktop support expert, how do you gpo random client that call in, or new client and environments when you know nothing about them, or friend and families computers?
Listen, kid, when you’ve been in the game long enough you’ll come across unique scenarios enough to a point where it is God damn annoying.
Kid. Lol. I’ve been in the game since before the invention of Windows servers
The start menu searching the web isn’t a network setting. It’s a setting for the behavior of the start menu.
You change a single flag in the registry on Windows and it tells the Start Menu not to do the behavior of searching the web. The unusual scenario as you cannot it is a common feature that can be turned on and off. The GPO lets you set that flag administratively. It’s not unique, and it’s something my level 1 help desk guys under my teams had no problem learning.
You’ve either been in the game long enough to become senile or the more likely case is your the kid and have no idea what you’re doing.
Bonus: there’s another flag to set the Start Menu to not search files. Set that one too and the search is lightning fast and only shows you programs and settings options.
