Ignoring the fact that it’s not even true… My favorite part of the fallout from that quote were all the Trump supporters, most of whom will never see $1mil in total earnings across their lives, scrambling to defend it as if it were a perfectly reasonable thing to say.
Like, “It’s just because he’s so rich that a million dollars really does seem like a small loan!”
Sure, okay Jim-Bob, and you’re dumb enough to believe a guy whose concept of money is that warped gives a damn about you? lol
I like the prefix marks. I wish we used them for all of our punctuation. They improve readability. Imagine if we removed the leading double-quote on our quoted lines.
.I feel like this analogy doesn’t entirely work because you always know where the question starts, as that’s where the sentence startS. ,And a sentence always starts where the one before ends, ¿righT? .However I still see why you say it improves readabilitY. ¡I’m sure my comment is very readable right noW!
I feel like the first example in your comment implies a different intonation than it’s equivalent in PooloverNathan’ comment. Also I feel the need to admit that I first read ¿)Nathan’s(? username as “Pool-over” as in “pull over”…
lol yeah I guess it depends on the length of the sentence and the context. Context is usually pretty clear for questions, and maybe exclamations are typically short enough that the ‘!’ is already visible anyways. Definitely wasn’t considering periods and commas in that list.
The first thing I do when I am greeted by a customer-service bot is spam it with “I want to talk to a human”, “Forward me to an assistant” and “Let me talk to your master”.
I have a screwdriver bit set that just includes one of those, very tightly secured. Whoever was responsible for ensuring this was neccessary: You are a hero.
Right up there with customer service lines that just have menus of canned responses that don’t address your need. No, I don’t need to hear your hours, I don’t need to know where you are, I can find all of that online. I need to talk to a human being.
A few years back you could say “operator” or press zero to get transferred to an actual person. In my experience it only works about 1/3 of the time these days.
Sometimes the system would even escalate your call if you were swearing while you were on hold.
