“It has not been easy for me. I started off in Brooklyn. My father gave me a small loan of a million dollars…” - Donald J. Trump

ZeroCool, (edited )

Ignoring the fact that it’s not even true… My favorite part of the fallout from that quote were all the Trump supporters, most of whom will never see $1mil in total earnings across their lives, scrambling to defend it as if it were a perfectly reasonable thing to say.

Like, “It’s just because he’s so rich that a million dollars really does seem like a small loan!

Sure, okay Jim-Bob, and you’re dumb enough to believe a guy whose concept of money is that warped gives a damn about you? lol

Lowpast,

I don’t disagree but 1m is 25k a year for 40 years. So yes, most of his supporters WILL earn 1m in their lives.

More info on Boeing?

eatham,
@eatham@aussie.zone avatar

And on raytheon, what did they do?

Custoslibera, (edited )

Boeing and Raytheon are massive weapon companies that make drones, missiles, targeting systems etc

IWantToFuckSpez,

So buy their stocks?

Zehzin, (edited )
@Zehzin@lemmy.world avatar

Raytheon stocks more than doubled in value this year.

You could say business is booming

nikscha,

Both are in the arms business. They make money from war.

maniacal_gaff,

Yup and if they didn’t make money, Putin’s tanks would have just ravaged Ukraine instead of being blown up all over the place by Javelins.

criticon,

They make shitty earbuds and sponsor YouTubers and podcast /s

craftyindividual,

You joke but I used to get Raycon, Ray-Ban and Raytheon confused at a time.

c0mbatbag3l,
@c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world avatar

Boeing and Raytheon are military contractors, and the US has characteristically kept itself in or around global conflict in order to continue handing out multi-billion dollar contracts to these companies (and more like them.) Weapons/Platform manufacturing and sales is a large portion of our economic output.

Planes and other combustion-powered machines have been “climate-engineering” for centuries, with catastrophic results.

Etterra, in Deconstructed food is always annoying

I’ve had a deconstructed Caesar salad once. It had an anchovy on it. It was pretty good. Did I mention I’m part Sicilian?

Fun fact, anchovies are good in a certain foods, but pizza is definitely not one of them. I suspect its presence there has to do with pizza’s origins being something similar to focaccia. Anchovies, especially the salted ones in tins, should be used very sparingly.

danc4498,

Libertarians are fascists…

coffee_poops,

So are the IDF…

intensely_human,

Right. So much overlap between those political philosophies 🙄

Gorilladrums,

“everything I don’t like is fascism”

c0mbatbag3l,
@c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world avatar

Libertarians are morons in their own right but the core philosophy of libertarianism (in the political compass sense) is the opposite of authoritarianism, which is where fascism stems from. A group that doesn’t want centralized government can’t also want a centralized government that enforces sociopolitical ideology.

The more you throw around the word “fascist” to mean “anything right of me that I don’t like” the more the word loses meaning and becomes like the “communist” rallying cry of the boomers.

danc4498,

Libertarians are also hypocrites that don’t follow their own ideologies.

c0mbatbag3l,
@c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world avatar

True, but are they actual libertarians, then? Wouldn’t they just be conservatives? You can call yourself whatever you want, actions are what define you.

danc4498,

Yeah, I was just being super cynical. The elected libertarians never seem like actual libertarians.

Ghyste,

Red states. What part of that isn’t clear?

Graylitic,

This happens in red and blue states. Additionally, conservative ideology is based in liberalism, with added brushes with fascism as compared to blue states.

Lesrid,

You’re replying to a hexbear user. When they use the label “Liberals” it includes the folks you immediately think of but it also includes conservatives., as in economic liberalism.

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

no, I mean mean US democrat liberals and the link I provided shows that child labor restrictions are being loosened in both red and blue states

Lesrid,

Yes they’re all liberals. That’s what I said. The guy was like ‘where blue states I thought you said libral’ and so I had to clarify that in this context the word applies to both not just blue.

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

You’re right, ultimately both sects are fundamentally rooted in liberal ideology. I just wanted to clarify that I was talking about the blue liberals specifically in my reply.

Strawberry,

This dude don’t know bout liberals

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Ah yes, red states like Minnesota and New Jersey. 🤡

pingveno,

Any legislator can introduce a bill, so “blue” and “red” don’t really indicate much. You have to look at who is sponsoring the bill. In Minnesota, that is Republicans and it’s going nowhere. In New Jersey, that’s Democrats and it got into law.

hedgehogging_the_bed,

Only one? I’m stuck between the US court system and Mormons looking for a wife but I guess Republican Congressmen’s Dating Pool is also a possibility.
