Oh no, not a single day in the year where some shops have closed! If they visited my country they would probably have an aneurysm. Nothing is open on Sunday or public holidays. On Saturday most shops close at 18:00 many close much sooner. It depends for the rest of the week but you can not be open after 21:00.
Even in my own country, Australia, where our retail culture is quickly copying the US, customers can be so entitled. People get mad about reduced hours on public holidays.
But just 50-60 years ago, most stores were closed on Sunday and only open for a few hours on Saturday’s. They’d be closed for the entire day on public holidays. The people I often see getting angry at shops for closing at 10pm instead of 12am on Christmas day are usually old enough to remember the “good old days” (as they themselves call it)
The same entitled people will complain about self serve checkouts, robot janitors and AI stock management systems. They complain that there aren’t enough human staff, But then they go and treat the few humans there are with more cruelty, abuse and disrespect than they’d ever consider using when talking to Siri. Do you want humans working here or not or not? How about you treat them like the human beings they are.

In the spirit of Alec’s pedentry, I must mention that lube does not work by making things moist, instead it works by reducing friction and preventing direct contact between solids. Oil based lubes are a prime example of this as they contain very little water and therefore is ineffective at making things moist but is still effective at reducing friction. Water by itself is actually a pretty bad lube.

Tbf every President regardless of party will take credit when the economy is good, so it’s hard to blame people for blaming the president when things are not going well for them.
Well… It was trump who destroyed our trade agreements, and then renegotiated for less favorable trade agreements. He also put tariffs on imported goods. Oh, and he fired a bunch of diplomatic staff. And then there was the whole thing where he weakened consumer protections. Don’t forget about slashing our public health and pandemic response teams just a few years before a major pandemic. Tax cuts to billionaires too, now that I think about it, allowed the richest 1% to klepto even more stuff and charge the common man man for it.
Yeah, if Trump was president right now, I’d still blame him for all the dumb shit he did.
What caused inflation in this instance was the uncontrolled spending/printing of money by our government, and their mandates to shutter large portions of our economy even after COVID was shown to be less of a risk than initially feared. It’s absolutely true that Trump was still president when it began and COVID was having a serious impact on our economy. What wasn’t Trump’s doing was the continued spending and closures well after COVID had been dealt with. We continued to pass multi-trillion dollar spending bills under the blanket of COVID relief which in reality had next to nothing to do with actual COVID relief. Instead, our government saw a once in a lifetime opportunity to have what was essentially a blank check, and oh boy did they capitalize on that. Take a look at Biden’s baby, the Inflation Reduction Act. It’s a prime example of this. Even now proponents admit it did little to stifle inflation.
It’s really impressive that you manage to fit both “when it’s our president they’re powerless and can’t be held accountable for anything at all, the poor baby” AND “when it’s their president they wield ultimate power and should be held directly and personally responsible for all in the world” into a single argument.

I can’t tell you how often this ends old people’s lives. They start to aspirate food, get hospitalized for nasty pneumonia because of it, we try to feed them pureed food (essentially baby food all over again) and thicken their drinks, they struggle to stay hydrated and nourished because of it, they aspirate and end up in the hospital again. Rinse, repeat.
Oh, so it’s yet another one of those problems caused by that whole “let’s take this four legged mammal body plan and make it stand upright” thing. Thanks, evolution!
