AstralPath, in The Newfoundland of the US

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of both Newfoundlanders and Floridians if you think this is true.

cyborganism, in The Newfoundland of the US

I wholeheartedly disagree with this comparison. Newfoundlanders are super kind and welcoming like most Maritimers.

This comparison is just so mean to them, you should apologize.

cdf12345,

I was just about to say the exact same thing. Otherwise we would all be hyped for GTA6: Newfoundland

Newfoundland isn’t part of the Maritimes. It’s part of Atlantic Canada, but isn’t a maritime province. Same way that BC is in the West but not part of the prairies.

cyborganism,

Oh? I didn’t even know there was a distinction. I learned something new today.

They’re still nice people tho.

LordPassionFruit,

The distinction isn’t universal and is often made by people from the three other Atlantic provinces.

The name “the Maritime Provinces” predates Newfoundland joining Canada, so most people from Prince Edward Island (like myself), New Brunswick, or Nova Scotia will draw a distinction between Maritime provinces (which do not include Newfoundland) and the Atlantic Provinces (which do include Newfoundland).

Most people will not even bat an eye if you call Newfoundland a Maritime Province unless they’re from another Maritime province.

This is a false equivalent … as an Ontarian, some of the best Canadians I’ve ever known were Newfies.

Canada was made more whole, much stronger and a hell of a lot funnier when Newfoundland joined us in 1949.

I’d fight any Newfie to win that argument and have a good laugh about it too.

theredbit, in They are too expensive and gimicky either way

We bought an “analog” washer and dryer for my wife and I when we moved into our first home. Hasn’t failed us yet. Her parents have a fancy set and they’ve had to get it fixed a few times already. Seems like the simpler the better for home appliances

fidodo,

Our dryer wasn’t working very well so we got a temporary one for $100 from Craigslist, but turns out it runs great and we have no desire to replace it.

excitingburp,

Turns out electronics and moisture don’t go well together.

tdawg, (edited )

This applies to all machines really. More parts means more things to go wrong.

I was cleaning up my home, but now I’m too tired to make dinner!

Sabre363, in They are too expensive and gimicky either way

How does one wash wi-fi? Any special detergents or temp settings?

tubaruco,

you put the router in the washing machine. of course, you have to poke a hole for the cables, since the router has no wifi when its turned off.

then, you turn the washing machine on. water should be enough but if you want to be safe you can put salt.

when the machine beeps you’ll have successfully washed the wifi away from your router.

It’s more like encountering a rare stroke of genius and thinking I’m a literal god until two seconds later when I remember I’m still an idiot and my “genius” actually broke something important . . . again.

Don’t worry, like smart TVs, wifi connected devices will become cheaper than their alternatives soon

SomethingBurger,

Do dumb TVs still exist at all?

ILikeBoobies,

Yes, look for commercial tvs

datelmd5sum,

You can get a 55" gaming monitor.

SomethingBurger,

1700€

Fucking hell. Is the screen made of diamonds? It’s 4x the price of a TV of the same size. What are they smoking?

gornius,

Mainly GTG response time and latency. For watching movies it’s generally not a problem, but when it comes to playing games with a mouse, latency can be a huge issue, and bad GTG response time leads to smearing.

But yeah, 4x the price is ridiculous.

rifugee,

Maybe the smart TV’s are being subsidized by the money they make selling the data they collect from you?

SomethingBurger,

Sure. But this doesn’t account for the whole 1000€ difference in price.

MisterD,

Yes and they cost more!

If you cleaned your room well, you are definitely not trash 💟

Sabre363,

Does sweeping everything under the bed and drawing lines in the carpet still count? Asking for myself a friend

SubArcticTundra,

Hmm, as long as you are honest with yourself that there is room for improvement, then yes

Sabre363,

Improvement takes too much work, I just wanna have some plausable reason to not think I’m trash

The twist? They are the same thing.

Everyone in these comments is gay except for me.

lars,

So is op

Sabre363,

I hate to break it you like this bro, but I think you might also be infected with the gay. You forgot to say “no homo”

jeanofthedead, in I'm really getting over the enshitification of the internet.

If you’re using Safari on macOS or iOS, download Vinegar for YouTube (and Baking Soda for other websites). It switches videos to the native player and skips ads (and autoplay). It also sets the quality to whatever you prefer (Best, in my case). Makes mobile YouTube so much better.

abraxas, in I'm really getting over the enshitification of the internet.

What I don’t get is how most places, people get mad at us for not being able to read an article due to the paywall. I mean, I’m not going to subscribe to 50 shitty news sites just so I can read someone’s damn random shit.

UnfortunateShort,

For real tho, I’m not paying Netflix money for a single damn news outlet. The prices are absurd.

LifeOfChance,

This is my biggest gripe with lemmy. A MASSIVE amount of links I try to follow is just paywalls or so damn bloated with garbage it isn’t worth the effort
