veroxii,

Jack Black catching some stay bullets here.

Microplasticbrain,

Super braindead take, men exercise for their own health and confidence. In the same way that women wear makeup, it may help attracting the opposite sex but we do it for ourselves. Also exercise is one of the most direct mechanisms for self improvement regardless of gender.

gmtom,

Take memes seriously, get into arguments with strangers.

DizzoMyNizzo,

You’re right. I don’t even want to argue about the Kek of markiplier in the center.

Microplasticbrain,

You’re right lemmy is no place for discussion Ill just block you so we don’t argue anymore, have a good one.

gmtom,

Living up to your username

TexMexBazooka,

This was a funny exchange

Uh, I have definitively heard a lot of men say their primary motivation to “getting buff” is to pick up women.

orrk,

and I have definitely heard women repeat some common gender stereotype as well

Microplasticbrain,

Yea I think a lot of men initially get into exercise to attract women but the ones that really stick with it end up doing it for themselves after they realize how much better they feel, both physically and mentally. Of course there will always be people who do things for different reasons but in general this has been my experience.

Chriswild,

It can be for women but attract women for unintended reasons. Confidence is attractive and if they get confidence through gaining muscle it still works.

SCB,

I’m 39. These days I explicitly work out to be in good shape for sex. I want to look good when I pop the top, and attracting partners is a core goal of mine.

I’ve never in my life been hurting for confidence, and was confident when I was 40 lbs heavier - I just looked worse with my shirt off.

If you’re chasing low-commitment sex, at some point your physical attractiveness does indeed matter.

Microplasticbrain,

That’s fair but from the people I speak to, who exercise consistently, they do it for themselves primarily. I don’t know many people who exercise exclusively to attract women and not also enjoy being in shape just for themselves whether its to feel good, or be more confident.

Personally I do cardio, not because of attracting someone but because I literally feel so much better on a daily basis when I do. My sleep is better, I have more energry, etc.

DizzoMyNizzo,

The people only focusing on muscle hunks and ignoring Jack Black and Markiplier. I think I owe @gmtom an apology…

I get it I was wrong, I have to be a muscle hunk OR Jack Black to be attractive

JudahBenHur,

yep. the only person here who isn’t in personal-trainer levels of physical shape is jack black. I’ve just been re-watching the bear and apparently they skip the scenes where carmi is spending 3 hours a day in the gym

PhlubbaDubba,

Fact that the Line Cook example isn’t Pere Davidson is a crime and severe inaccuracy, that man looks like he’s still waiting for puberty and can Line Cook Energy his way into dating basically any chick he puts the moves on.

That or he just does literally any amount of oral since that’s apparently a complete rarity woth famous dudes.

Cannacheques,

What a man wants, can women just chill and let a man be happy?

aberrate_junior_beatnik,

Yes, famously men have had very few demands of women throughout history.

Cethin,

I don’t disagree, but also it isn’t relevant. Either it’s wrong or it’s not, regardless of gender. People should be happy first.

TimewornTraveler,

Can someone identity everyone in this pic? I only recognize two people.

Yeah, you just need to be born with the right genetics, be charismatic, and have media empires pushing you as a heartthrob in tv/movies/social media, and you too can be desired by women. Totally not out of the realm of possibility for most men. This just takes the idea that men have to be muscle-bound hunks to “get women” and puts it further outside the realm of possibility by replacing it with “Hollywood” hearththrobs. At least being a musclebound hunk is semi-possible if I dedicated my life to working out and bulking up 8+ hours a day. I doubt there’s anything I can do to achieve Pedro Pascal’s level of fame in my lifetime.
