GitLens?

GitHub Desktop is literally “Baby’s first git GUI”.

KairuByte, in 1 follower on GitHub = 1000 followers on other platforms 😅

Who follows users on GitHub? Repos, branches, issues, PRs, sure. But users?

Daxtron2,

I follow TodePond because they have funny repos and star weird stuff.

jasory,

Some people (like myself and other scientists/mathematicians), write software for specific fields so if you follow them you find it out what work they are putting out, and issues they find in other software etc.

I have 13 followers on GitHub. A few are friends from college, the rest I have absolutely no clue why.

PhlubbaDubba, in Not mocking cobol devs but yall are severely underpaid for keeping fintech alive

At what point does the cost of tech migration outweigh the cost of training people on a more and more specialist paid language just to not have to migrate to a memory safe higher level language like C or Go or Rust or Lua.

Didn’t say python because oh sweet Jesus the slowdown alone would grind the global economy to a halt if we were running all our banking software on Python XD

calcopiritus,

C and memory safety, name a more iconic duo /s

ah so we just need to persuade banks to switch to python. Noted

This post is horrifying, not funny.

My guesses:

  • Toner’s role is being underplayed by the video. She’s potentially calling Altman out, for underrating the dangers of AI.
  • At least Altman is lying about something - about how much OpenAI is going towards AGI in the short term. The above might’ve bought the bullshit fully, while Sutskever knows that it’s bullshit.
  • I’m not sure if the board is also lying or not.
  • The boiling point was likely OpenAI potentially receiving some cash grant from some scummy party, that would be in a moral grey area considering the "non-"profit goals of the company.
  • Everybody will get a bit more of free popcorn for a while. 🍿 This mess is far from over.

Before nginx was a thing, I worked with a guy who forked apache httpd and wrote this blog in C, like, literally embedded html and css inside the server, so when he made a tpyo or was adding another post he had to recompile the source code. The performance was out of this world.

Schmeckinger,

There are a lot of solutions like that in rust. You basically compile the template into your code.

This reminds me of one of my older projects. I wanted to learn more about network communications, so I started working on a simple P2P chat app. It wasn’t anything fancy, but I really enjoyed working on it. One challenge I faced was that, at the time, I didn’t know how to listen for user input while handling network communication simultaneously. So, after I had managed to get multiple TCP sockets working on one thread, I thought, why not open another socket for HTTP communication? That way, I could incorporate a fancy web UI instead of just a CLI interface.

So, I wrote a simple HTTP server, which, in hindsight, might not have been necessary.

Honestly the one thing I hate about any interpretation of magic especially in the modern era is the lack of mixing

Imaging how cool a mix between magic and tech would be

Like a super computer the size of a smartphone due to like a pocket dimension

I’m sure there’s better ideas I’m just not creative enough to find them

where_am_i, in Bug Thread

Nothing like receiving a GitHub email with a page of traceback cuz someone replied to an issue thread. It looks like they’re running anaconda on windows. And their problem is probably something else. Oh gosh, why did I waste my brain looking into this traceback? But sure this was very relevant to the discussion.

what does the last 4 mean under stats?

xanu, (edited )

distance: how far you’ve traveled if you put all the steps in a line (may also be gps tracked too)

azm: active zone minutes or how many minutes you’ve spent with your heart rate in the “active zone” where you burn more calories

floors: how many flights of stairs you’ve climbed

calories: estimate of how many calories you’ve burnt based on all the other stats

UnRelatedBurner,

nice, thx
