Blue_Morpho,

If it actually was easier, I wouldn’t complain. But in most cases, the new settings make it harder to find and change settings.

Janeway didn’t get hate as much as it was criticism of the writers for making her inconsistent. One week it was “Prime directive no matter the consequences”, the next was “Lets do whatever to make drama.”

For all of Roddenberry’s faults, his presence for the early years of TNG kept TNG consistent instead of allowing the writer of the week to change characters for their personal story. By the time he was gone, the formula was set such that writers wouldn’t mess with characters.

Voyager has no singular authority so consistency of character was rare.

Edit: Except for Ensign Kim. He was born an Ensign and died one. Nobody messed with perfection.

Eureka was 18 years ago!

I expected something like Wesley from the TNG episode, Journey’s End where he was fantastic. Instead it was like if you put Adam Savage on set and told him to geek out about being on Trek.

Blue_Morpho,

What VPN do you use? I used Mulvad in the past but I’ve read they stopped port forwarding so torrenting is broken with them now.

Blue_Morpho,

Does it actually belong in the phone? Putting the adc chip outside the phone gives the opportunity to upgrade your sound rather than depend on what the manufacturer bundled or even screwed up. (Nexus phones were notorious for bad headphone output.)

Blue_Morpho,

Get a dongle. Get several. Stick them on the ends of all your headphones and aux cables and forget that you don’t have a headphone jack on your phone.

Blue_Morpho,

Because they are intelligent. In the same way we used to killed all predators but now try to conserve them from extinction.

Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?

Similar to the recent question about artists where you can successfully separate them from their art. Are there any artists who did something so horrible, so despicable, that it has instantly invalidated all art that they have had any part in?

Blue_Morpho,

New season with replaced voice actor is really good.

Blue_Morpho,

Most of their songs are Beatle-esque or have Beatle Easter eggs in the lyrics. Noel Gallagher was/is extremely vocal about being a Beatles fan and saying where he stole parts of Beatles songs/lyrics for his songs.

Blue_Morpho,

Are those like the Burger King Star Wars glasses that have dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium?

Blue_Morpho,

YouTube has dislikes. The thumb down is still there. But it doesn’t show the results.

Blue_Morpho,

GN August 14th www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGW3TPytTjc&t=108sbreaks story

Linus claims Billet said we could keep it and we didn’t sell it we auctioned it.

Linus defends his “we didn’t sell it we auctioned it” www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY&t=948sby saying its important to get all the details.

However the details, as Linus already knew, was that Billet asked for it back 2 weeks earlier, they lost track of it and sold it.

Linus response August 14th: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY&t=948sclaims they offered to pay for it before they were under any pressure

GN August 15th www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3byz3txpso&t3m54sBillet labs shows email chain they didn’t receive a response until after GN video was released and LTT was under pressure.

Billets email chain shows that they asked for it back long before it was sold. Linus claims they offered to pay for it before being pressured. Billet labs email chain shows they didn’t receive an offer until after GN’s videos hit the news.

Blue_Morpho,

Fencing with a rapier is different from waving around something which cuts and burns through stuff without pressure with every side

It’s actually closer to what Lightsaber dueling would be than the Kendo style used in most of Star Wars. The Light Saber has no mass and a single touch is incapacitating. So two handed hard chops like classic Luke are ridiculous. The rapier fencing technique to parry, thrust or slice quickly and lightly is ideal. You have a massless blade not a two handed clamore. You need only prick the opponent to severely harm them in the same way in fencing a touch, no matter how light, is a point for you.

Blue_Morpho,

Imo rule of two was an unnecessary retcon of a line from Phantom. “Always two Sith are found together” didn’t have to mean ONLY two. It was to reflect that like Jedi Master and Jedi Padawan are always two Jedi found together, two Sith are always found together.

Instead of seeing the symmetry that Lucas was so fond of (it’s like poetry), the EU ran with the line into an absurd history of how Sith developed into only 2 Sith in the entire Galaxy.

The fact that there was Emperor, Dooku and Maul coexisting meant Lucas saw the Sith as the evil version of the Jedi.

Blue_Morpho,

Be careful careful about arguing that on lemmy.world. I argued for a bit with a “both sides are bad”, eventually called them out for being a Putin puppet, and got my post deleted by a Lemmy.world mod.

Blue_Morpho,

You think I meant 20k?

“Probably saved nearly $20,000 on groceries those two months. Give or take”

I can’t tell if you are trolling

Blue_Morpho,

“The COVID-19 age-adjusted death rate for the age 65 and over population was 533.5 per 100,000 standard population.”

“the death rate for COVID-19 among adults aged 85 and over (1,645.0 per 100,000)”

www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db446.htm

Assuming the relative was somewhere between 65 and 85 puts it at around 1 in a thousand.

Blue_Morpho,

someone in their life that was adversely affected by the vaccine.

There are rare side effects. When someone brings it up, it’s important to acknowledge it but qualify the risk. .0001% of heart problem or .1 % of death. Tell them it’s like driving without a seat belt because of the 1 in a million chance you get in an accident where the seatbelt traps you. Meanwhile 77% of all people have been in an accident.

Blue_Morpho,

I was saying 1 in a thousand to die from COVID vs 1 in a million to have complications from the vaccine.

Blue_Morpho,

Gates had a point. Everyone was spending thousands on hardware but wouldn’t spend a little more for Basic. There were free options, they weren’t poor ( computer hardware was very expensive in the 70’s), but everyone was using Basic without buying it.

It’s like today where people will spend thousands for a gaming PC, then complain about Windows when they should be using Linux.

Blue_Morpho,

as long as the town is designed well.

Unfortunately I have to live in the real world where towns aren’t designed well. Besides, the average yard in my neighborhood is 3.5 acres so general purpose public transportation wouldn’t work either.

Blue_Morpho,

I didn’t understand either but that’s the reason that they gave for quitting. Maybe some schools had a different afternoon driver.
