I don’t get it. The article says that hardware is 1974 was expensive but UNIX was cheap to develop. Linus developing Linux just confirms what they are saying. Is the joke that computers used to be expensive and now they are cheap?
I mean I always knew that Oscars were mostly about hype and not actual artistic value but getting offended that the most hyped movie of the year didn’t get all the nominations is just weird. Mattel run multi-million, non traditional marketing campaign and got a lot of people exited about the movie. It doesn’t say anything about the acting or directing in it.
Not to argue about a joke but Linux was ‘better’ because it was free, not because it was technically better. By the time it got actually better than UNIX tons of people have worked on it, not just couple of drunk guys. I think someone just misread what the article says and missed the ‘not’ in ‘need not be expensive’. But if people find it funny it’s cool, it’s not for me to judge anyone’s sense of humour.
But seriously, they have some crazy allergies there. No idea why, probably because of all the artificial food and contamination in general. It’s just not a very healthy place to live.
True story: some newspaper in Poland organize a competition for the weirdest name. The guy who won had last name of ‘Zyc or Cyc’ (in polish, of course). Basically when his grandfather was registering his name some guy couldn’t read it or something so he put ‘Zyc or Cyc’ and it stayed like this in the documents.
According to this guy when police would stop him and try to write a ticket they would get confused and ask him which one was it? He would say that maybe they shouldn’t write anything because their boss will they they’re stupid or something. They would usually let him go.
