the median household income of a Trump voter so far in the primaries is about $72,000

I’m not really sure I buy this meaning they’re really affluent corporate types. I’ve met a lot of Trump supporters who own big properties out in the country, who own big trucks, and who work jobs in trades. Stuff like plumbers and carpenters and mechanics. I mean hell, in my state, the average pay for plumbers is $80,000 a year, and yep, a lot of those people are self-employed. Last I checked the trades is where all the folks who struggled in school go…

So, does this really mean they aren’t who we think they are? All the people I’m referring to were dumb as fuck country fucking bumpkins who needed a swift kick in the ass. All they’ve really gotten “invested” is a house on a big valuable piece of land, a little bit of stock on the market (maybe), and a bunch of physical items that add up to them being “wealthy” even though two of the trucks don’t work, the tractor is falling apart, and so is the barn, and so on. On paper, they’re wealthy, in person, they’re still missing some fucking teeth.

Oh yeah, and the obsession with guns… Guns ain’t cheap… These people piss away a lot of money on useless stuff.

entire system backups onto the server - how?

Hey there, I have a (very) small Ubuntu server and I was dabbling on the idea to do system backups (entire system, meaning, if the disk of the said pc fries, I can get another one, put the info from the backup on the new disk, works immediately afterwards). I have a couple of Linux mint machines and a windows one. I searched a...

github.com/teejee2008/timeshift

I think TimeShift could maybe work for you, but you might need a script to offload the backups it creates.

restic.net

Restic is another option, but it’s a little less user friendly and is all CLI, if i recall correctly. However I’m pretty sure you can send backups straight to a server via Restic.

I'm new to networking and self-hosting and have no idea where to start.

I’ve been slowly working my way though a list of skills to learn, both to put on my resume and as personal growth. Networking is the next thing on this list. I am not sure what I am looking for, but I want to start another project. I have built many a personal computer, but the world of networking is a pretty foreign concept...

I mean, isn’t it important to understand the fundamentals so you can understand VLSM better?

Like math, a lot of this knowledge works better when you know the fundamentals and basics, which help you conceptualize the bigger ideas.

On a personal level, I would have had a lot harder time understanding VLSM if I hadn’t had the basic fundamentals of traditional subnetting and classful networking under my belt.

It’s far closer to a pc than a console.

Ehhh, you have to spend money on a decent dock to be able to use it with any consistency as a desktop. Sure, software-wise, it’s not a console, it plays PC games.

However, it’s physical form factor is a console. It looks and functions out of the box far more like a Nintendo Switch than a IBM ThinkPad.

It’s literally a gamepad with a screen and no keyboard or mouse. So despite being a PC platform, I would still consider this a “console,” based on outward-facing form factor alone, personally.

That’s fair, I was just being cheeky and trying to be funny. I don’t have any deets on software piracy sadly, my friend.

My best suggestion would be soulseek, it seems to have stuff I have trouble finding elsewhere, although you might need to make an exception for it to search for msi/exe files.

That’s Gale of Waterdeep of Baldur’s Gate 3 there on the right, here in the role of “Danny Bear.”

Very interesting, I have long been familiar with Dunbar’s Number, but I’d actually not thought about it connection with things like social media influencers/streamers. (Probably because that’s not my scene, I don’t stream/don’t watch streams.)

That sounds about correct though, I actually can’t even imagine trying to regularly communicate with that many people directly, in a chatroom style format. It sounds oppressive and demanding.

and just uninstall apps that control you and make you mentally unstable.

While this is good, at this point, the “apps” that “control you” are fully the operating system itself. Android and Windows now both especially push advertising in gross ways and spend way too much time sending way too much data back to home base. iOS and macOS are like maybe just slightly better in that regard, but not a whole lot.

Which leaves you with Linux for computing and android alternatives like LineageOS or GrapheneOS, all of which demand a little bit more technical knowhow on the individuals part.

It’s so so much harder to escape than it used to be. It’s pretty pervasive at this point and damaging to the average person, in terms of how “apps that control you” can really be the whole computer or phone.

You know the old saying, “you get what you paid for.”

I’ve heard far more people using it for helping with simple coding exercises and helping them approach coding problems than I have heard of people using it for research.

I wouldn’t be doing much of any research through AI for exactly that reason myself. It hallucinates too much.

So, like I said, it depends on what you’re using each one for. People seem to be having success with Bing and programming, but less so with Bing and anything actually human-life related.

Trump doesn’t use desktops, he uses Android or iOS.

Privacy is not just an illusion; it’s a delusion

Privacy is not just an illusion; it’s a delusion. Things like privacy statements and permission to use cookies are little more than sophisticated propaganda. If you think for a moment the Overlords cannot prepare a dossier on you within minutes that would make your mother faint and your father die of shame, you’re living in...

I think a better act would be people unsubscribing from this community in protest until the mods actually start removing this kind of fucking garbage.

Reminds me of the episode of Joe Pera Talks with You where he talks with the guy who pours liquids professionally for television commercials.

I’m not sure, although I’m fairly sure it’s from a parody, and not the real film. So you’re on the right track!

Mountain Goats - The Bad Doctor

Kids in the Hall - Bad Doctor

Don’t get my fucking hopes up! If only they would bring this back.

At least Matthew Holness had cameos in Toast of London and Toast of Tinseltown.
