That would require every government worldwide to be on board. Then you’ll have a couple holdouts, and they’ll take in the dough from everyone wanting to host their content there. While there is a mile-long wishlist from the powers that be, they’re still going to chase what’s profitable.

bobs_monkey,

I think it’s more in that each platform has their differences as far as consumption, and possible behavior setting/modification, in which they’re both detrimental. It’s not secret that algorithms are used to keep the user engaged, and that so-called ragebait is a huge engagement driver. Facebook is somewhat of a link aggregator meets microblogging (ie status updates), while tiktok just feeds an endless loop of short videos. I would imagine (though I don’t have stats or sources) that videos keep people glued to their screens more effectively (easier than reading), and could be more troubling.

bobs_monkey,

From what I can see, it seems like their opinions go against the grain of the Lemmy userbase. They don’t seem to be intentionally antagonizing people.

bobs_monkey,

Those of us that remember the olden days of dialup made do with worse

bobs_monkey,

Not exactly. There’s a ratio of RPMs of the drive motor to the specific input of the alternator that generates the correct frequency. It depends on the way the alternator is designed (ie number of poles) that will yield the correct frequency, almost like a gear ratio, that is optimized for efficiency, and power plants have to constantly make slight adjustments to the drive motor speed the keep the frequency exact (usually done automatically within the drive control system).

I’ve never seen frequency be an issue in a residential system, but in theory it could happen.

bobs_monkey,

Is it just me or is his hand hilariously small in comparison

bobs_monkey,

Personally I’d say it’s rather opportune

And one wrong move is a twinge of pressure

In that case enable the block connections without VPN under the VPN settings in network

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....

bobs_monkey,

You and me both man, and yeah I’ve seen some attempts but nothing that stuck

bobs_monkey,

I think that’s just branding 101

bobs_monkey,

I think I had the same thing that we played Duke Nukem 3D with

bobs_monkey,

If you’ve ever seen the Dead (or one of their variants) do Space live while you’re in another dimension… exactly.

Dead & Co’s last Sunday night show in SF this past summer was epic.

bobs_monkey,

Pho is amazing year round, especially if you can find a place with good ox tail

bobs_monkey,

I absolutely love using rotisserie chicken in my recipes, especially chicken noodle soup and chicken pot pie

bobs_monkey,

If you like the Wikipedia rabbit hole, check out the Wiki game on your given app store. The basic idea is that you have two separate topics, and you have try to link to the second from the first in as few clicks and time as possible. It’s actually quite fun and you end up reading about some really random stuff.

Lola bunny was smoking for being a cartoon rabbit

bobs_monkey,

I've seen a few, but they were mostly contained to more random offshoot instances, and those stirring up bullshit were booted pretty quick.

I think the inherent instance ownership gives admins a greater sense of pride to keep their localities positive, and a lot off us are still feeling from what reddit became in the last 5ish years and there's a communal sense of keeping that outta here.

And yes, at least for now. Hopefully those marketing ploys are readily apparent and get kicked to the curb quickly.

bobs_monkey,

I remember the Voat semi-exodus, but as I recall that was all the communities that got banned. Voat turned into a cesspool real quick
