Why are we required to sit down when getting our blood pressure taken? Would the results be affected if we were standing?

when patients get their blood pressure taken at the doctor’s office, the doctor requires you to sit, legs uncrossed. But what would happen if we stand up to get our blood pressure taken? can we stand? or do we have to sit? And why?

dingus,

No, that’s just because your doctors office (like many) is slow.

dingus,

Also wild to me are people that bring their drinks into public bathrooms like WTF

dingus,

Idk…they aren’t chronically online like I am. They lead a very busy life and probably didn’t even like me much to begin with.

dingus,

Yeah I’ll bet ours just stamped it or something! Surprised more people didn’t try to pull one over on my dumb ass haha

dingus,

Can’t say I remember. It’s one of those songs that has been played every year for ages upon ages. Maybe around 10 or something.

dingus,

Lmao I also heard it as that and was so confused at wtf it was supposed to actually be

dingus,

Can you explain for an ignorant person? Because to me it sounds like they just cannibalized someone.

dingus, (edited )

Congratulations!!! Yeah, it’s a long road ahead, but you’ve got the in now. You’ve passed the biggest barrier to entry. After this, it’s a marathon, but an exclusive one that you managed to get a spot at. I know you’ll be a great doctor, especially because you have humbler beginnings than some and know how it felt to struggle. Humility is a big part of being an empathetic human being and a good doctor. You got this!

I know it’s way too early to say, but what field do you think you’ll end up in?

dingus, (edited )

Nope, I could still smell and taste, although it was perhaps slightly diminished. I wish I would have lost my sense of taste briefly because the cough medicine I was taking tasted absolutely disgusting.

Maybe not totally related, but I think my sense of smell has always been not as great as other people, even before COVID. People will sometimes complain about a specific smell and I don’t always notice it.

dingus, (edited )

Yeah, it’s a lot more common than you’d think. My mom’s dog is like that as well. Been quite a few embarrassing times unfortunately.

dingus,

One time I failed one of these like 5 times in a row. I was so infuriated. Maybe I really am a robot.

dingus,

Sometimes I call him Rocky and sometimes I call him Robot Slave

dingus,

I mean, wireless charging is a thing nowadays

What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?

EDIT: Let’s cool it with the downvotes, dudes. We’re not out to cut funding to your black hole detection chamber or revoke the degrees of chiropractors just because a couple of us don’t believe in it, okay? Chill out, participate with the prompt and continue with having a nice day. I’m sure almost everybody has something...

dingus,

So then what does one do to heal it?

dingus,

I have been having some mental health issues, and I was reading about this the other day. I was going through wikipedia with the various types of antidepressants, and it seems that SSRIs are just barely better than placebo, or even in studies not even better than placebo.

I know there are multiple classes of antidepressants out there. Are there any that do a better job, even if they are not as common?

dingus,

I always wondered how shit like this worked. My mom’s uostairs neighbors are of normal size, but they stomp around like they each weigh 600 lbs. I don’t get it.

dingus, (edited )

I’m in the US and I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it “SAW-dur” in person or in any form of media. You are supposed to pronounce the L in the General American accent.

If you use Google’s word pronunciation tools, both General American and Received Pronunciation pronounce the L in soldier.

Edit: I like the downvotes to all my comments without anyone showing me people pronouncing it that way.

dingus,

I dunno. Maybe they are just a sleepwalker. My brothers have done weird things in their sleep before.

dingus, (edited )

Not having a snooze button at all seems even more dangerous. Have you not inadvertently shut it off and went back to sleep???

I used to do stuff like that all the time (and still do on occasion), so I have a second backup alarm across the room that keeps me in tow.

dingus,

Ah yeah fair. I try to use Spotify’s algorithms to my advantage to find new stuff I like, but I only seem to resonate with a new song it suggests every now and then.

Years back before Spotify I used to use Pandora. Idk if they are still around but their radio feature always seemed better than Spotify to me. It’s been years though.

dingus,

Ohhh. I never thought about why they do it but this makes a ton of sense.

dingus,

??? Tax variations among regions were not created to benefit advertisers

dingus,

Are you my brother? Whenever I go to his place I feel like I’m going to get hypothermia lol
