foggy,

When I was born in the 80s, police drove 1982 Crown Victoria’s with a turbo.

When I graduated high school in the 2000s, they drove 1982 crown Victoria’s with a turbo.

Then, sometime during the Iraq war, these motherfuckers started getting brand fucking new Ford explorers, Ford f150s… Every couple years.

Of course we fucking hate you, stop stealing our money for toys you don’t need. Why don’t you tell us about the new array of artillery in the trunk?

foggy,

I think between being a cute kid and BEGGING my dad who likes to gamble to invest EVERYTHING on Yahoo! From 1994 until the pets.com Superbowl commercial ad aired, and then just hardlined him into selling, he’s probably be able to cut me 10 mil.

Let alone that Id be saying “Microsoft! Coca Cola! Amazon! Apple! Oracle! Pfizer! Johnson & Johnson! Berkshire Hathaway! Wal Mart! And in war years, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin! Intel! Amd! Nvidia!” The whole time.

I’d be a fucking billionaire. Straight up. It would t be gambling, it would be a free money glitch.

Timing Bitcoin right?? Doge?? Get outta here. I’d have more money than anyone on earth.

If I could redo the life I was given with all my current knowledge, 10M would be like the average size of a charity donation or a gift that I would be giving.

As a millennial, describing something as fire, or mids, that was us. Y’all youngings are appropriating old people culture. That’s how we described weed in the 2000s.

Edit: also when kids were saying ‘ratchet’, that was a direct descendent of Nurse Ratchet in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Ken Keasy used that name to be a homonym for “rat shit.” Next time you hear so e drop ‘ratchet,’ ask them what it means. They won’t even know.

It’s weird how old slang crops up like that. Ratchet was like, the 60s.

Edit2: I predict “kind” will get taken in, like “KB” or “kind bud” to mean “dope”. Like “you those shoes are kind, fam”.

I also predict that “beasters” might make it’s way in, but “beast” already meaning “dominate” might trip it up, because “beasters” were weed that was grown rushed with phosphates in the soil in indoor hydroponic labs, and that shit had lower THC content than most mids, looked better, but smelled off. Dead giveaway was hollow stems. Idk. Calling beats by dre headphones “beasters” would be a fitting insult to their products.

Fleek died the moment someone managed to get that fire started. Good riddance.

foggy,

We should have tons of little breathing holes all over.

Imagine if no one snored?

I got this. Someone, please prove me wrong. I’ll PayPal you $82.76 if you find this.

There’s a cartoon from the 80s (could be late 70snor early 90s) called Howard The Duck.

You’ll never find it, because of the wildly popular movie bearing the same name.

The “Howard the duck” I’m referring to was a cartoon movie that was about a Mallard duck who got separated from his flock while they were migrating south for the winter.

Howard finds himself in NYC for the winter, where he spends time with rats and frogs. They show him around NYC via the sewers.

There’s a scene where they’re beneath the world trade center and Howard and the frog marvel at is enormity. Then, the frog reminds Howard that “Nothing lasts forever; especially in New York.” (This is an exact quote, sparing punctuation.)

The VHS I had ended with a music video by some band with the word “dogs” (junk yard dogs? Something like that) in their band name. The music video was trippy AF. There was barking in the song. The visuals were mostly patterns of colorful circles.

Like, this sounds like a fever dream, but if you’ve seen it and can locate it, it will make sense. I swear.

My memory is shit but I’d describe the art style as watercolor. Animated watercolor. Fro the 80s. So, yeah. Sorry.

Fuck it. $20.

Fuckit 2: 4 payments of $20.69

foggy,

HOLY SHIT.

😃

Ill absolutely donate to charity for your work. I’ll even probably update this post at some point to show it.

Thanks!! About to see my sister’s at Christmas, we grew up on this movie, and they both have kids and we’ve been trying to figure it out for YEARS.

Thanks!!

foggy,

Tom Scott is a beacon of YouTube quality.

He never had a phase where all of his videos were 10:00 for the algorithm, he never jumps on topical shit for clicks, he just talks about genuinely interesting shit, and has gotten to do so on a higher and higher budget.

He has diversified, and has other channels that interface with other YouTubers in gameshow and stuff. But it’s all still legit content.

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

And a deep cut from 9 years ago. Same kind of content. Slightly lower quality but… Guys been doing this kind of “hey I think this is neat let me tell you about it” for a decade, without becoming a dingbat.

You get the idea.

foggy,

Since you know the person on the phone is doing work study, you tell them that you won’t donate a dollar until your salary clears their tuition costs.

They stopped calling me!

foggy,

…how do you know it was taken by your grandpa?

how similar are other North American countries to USA??

I mean the other 2 countries, Canada and Mexico, how similar are both of them to United States?? Both countries have a similar economy and democracy etc, and I think those two countries share things like supermarkets, stores, etc. I suppose the cultural differences are not a lot, that is very nice.

foggy,

The countries are all huge. They are more alike one another at their borders than they are similar to themselves throughout.

foggy, (edited )

No I mean people in Vancouver and people in Nova Scotia are more culturally distinct than Nova Scotians and folks from Maine.

Same applies to Mexicali and Calexico. Very similar. But Mexicali isn’t a whole lot like Savanah Georgia.

Space separates culture more effectively than invisible lines.

foggy,

In the year 2000, an internet friend gave me FTP credentials to a directory on his domain so I could host images and post them on the forum we were friends on.

He provided this service to all the forum users because we were all like :woah: when he started posting images that weren’t just leeched from another domain.

Eventually he did ask users throw him a few bucks, and then he made a tutorial on how to get your own domain and do it yourself.

Which tells me I’ve been using filezilla for about 2/3 of my life.

Have you guys ever heard of Facebook? It’s pretty cool you can post images or links or batshit crazy conspiracy theories to your wall and all of your friends or toothless uncles will like and laugh and comment and threaten people, it’s a hoot.

foggy,

Then floodgates of piracy opened as a means of being with exorbitant prices on music, and then television.

The solution for the industry was to make it more convenient to pay them than it was to steal. Stealing never stopped, it just lessened, because it was more convenient to pay.

Critical mistake, making it difficult for us to get what we want…

foggy,

If your friends have Facebook, and they share contacts on their phone, and they communicate with you Facebook has a shadow profile for your phone number. They still track you even without the app or an account.

Piracy is Preservation (feddit.de)

Image description: a screenshot from the Wikipedia page for the Doctor Who TV series, with a user-added caption that reads “Preserve the media you can before it’s gone forever.” The Wikipedia article reads, “No 1960s episodes exist on their original videotapes (all surviving prints being film transfers), though some were...

foggy,

Copyright makes a lot less sense with the internet.

The barriers to entry to markets are so low.

If I write a song, and you hear it, steal it and record it, I can’t really say “well hey man I was saving up money to get some studio time.”

Virtually every market has an analogous situation with it’s copyright. Not all, but most.

foggy,

Internet archives should be an entity receiving funding through tax dollars. They should be archiving a lot more of the internet, too, including all media. All tax paying citizens should have access to it through a govt provided email acct. Artists should apply for grants instead of relying on corporate residuals.

Socialize copyright.

They think the things you’d be surprised to learn people actually think.

I.e.

Crying makes you weak. They’re with manly men who don’t cry or go to therapy or any of that woke commie bullshit. They’re with strong men who will protect them. Louder = smarter.

foggy,

My ex has breast cancer.

It’s a weird emotion to learn someone who hurt you has a serious illness. Like “yeah, fuck you-- oh. Oh that’s way worse.”

foggy,

You’re either fabulous or you’re not. Has nothing to do with what’s in between your legs at birth or beyond.

Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

Hi, I am a guy in early thirties with a wife and two kids and whenever I go on youtube it always suggests conservative things like guys dunking on women, ben shapiro reacting to some bullshit, joe rogan, all the works. I almost never allow it to go to that type of video and when I do it is either by accident or by curiosity. My...

It sees you like standup comedy (POTENTIALLY ANTI-WOKE) and gaming (POTENTIALLY INCEL) and in your 30s (LIKELY HAS SOME DISPOSABLE INCOME)

So it’s pipelining you to the annals of YouTube that check those boxes, have very good viewer retention and have good user engagement.

The ones with good user engagement are the ones that raise your blood pressure. They make you angry. So, politics, or dirty cops, interrogations, murder stories, stuff like that.

You can resist them all you want, but stuff that makes people angry and chatty and commenty and re-watchy is like cocaine to the algorithm. It makes them money, so they spam it everywhere it even remotely makes sense to try to get you stuck in their quicksand.
