nothacking,

Well that’s another one for the “list of companies that are never getting my money”.

cdparanoia is old but has always worked fine, even on crappy drives and damaged disks. Even many modern tools like cyanrip just use cdparanoia to do the actual ripping, just wrapping it in a new UI. You will need to convert the output with another tool, but this is quite easy. (For mp3 disks, just mount them and copy the files, no special tools needed)

nothacking,

Solvent or solute depending on concentration. The drink however is a solution.

nothacking,

I greatly prefer the occasional original post with actuall engagement to a flood of reposts. If I want reddit posts, I will go on reddit (and also get comments and things like that). On a more meta level, the only way a community can gain and retain users is by offering unique content. If 99% of content is just content from Reddit (with missing comments), why should anyone bother to use Lemmy?

Subscribing to a comunity does not cost anything, very few people will leave a community because it is dead, but people will leave a community that spams their feed.

nothacking,

I would suggest soldering on thin wires, even a bit of copper is going to be orders of magnitude more conductive.

nothacking,

Not yet, but their could be in the future. Best to ignore it and move on. Even if it is extremely unlikely to be prosecuted for this stuff, it has happened, so why risk it.

nothacking,

Ignore it. Anything you say will be used to build their case. I would just set up another server.

30 UV led circuit

Hello! I bought 30 simple UV leds (those with a big and a small leg, not a single strip). I’m trying to build a UV station to dry my resin but idk how to proceed. I tryed watching some videos but there is a lot of math to build that and I can’t do it. I have 30 led lights, 5 resistors of 100 and 5 of 300. I wanted to use AA...

nothacking,

You could connect the LEDs in 5 strings of 6 parallel LEDs, each string with it’s own 100 ohm resistor. You will need a significant amount of voltage for that, at lest 7x the threshold voltage of the LEDs

Just a blocking occilstor based on a 2N3904. I later found that adding a capacitor across the coil connected to the transistors emiter and operating it at resonance, greatly improves the power consumption. (30mA to 1mA)

nothacking,

Why is the chip naked? Get a can or some epoxy.

Small fan switch sanity check. (lemmy.world)

Circuit is for controlling the fan on a Raspberry Pi, just on/off according to temp, no PWM. Not sure about the diode as it has a .7V drop and it’s a tiny brushless DC motor. No markings on the fan so I measured the current with a multimeter when hooking it up to a USB charger. Circuit was adapted from here using what I have...

nothacking,

Thanks for checking the datasheet!

nothacking,

Doing some quick math, the transistor will have a base current of 5 milliamps, which a Pi should be able to supply. At a fairly typical beta of 100, the transistor could drive the fan at up to .5 amps, which is plenty for a small fan. A MOSFET transistor is generally better suited for switching high current loads, but for this a BJT (as drawn) should be fine.

nothacking,

In my experience a large 1.5v D cell works best, as the limiting factor is generally current not coil resistance, unless you wind thousands of turns of fine wire.

nothacking,

Without insulation on the wire, the turns are shorted to each other and the nail.

nothacking,

Mastodon for sure, you can even use mastodon bots from lemmy, and there will be limited compatibilty witth anything else using activity pub.

nothacking,

This is minor one, but annoys me how comnmon this is: light is made out of litle packets of energy called photons.

Here is a good video on the topic: youtube.com/watch?v=SDtAh9IwG-I (Too lazy didn’t watch: Light is an electromagnetc wave and is is not quantized. Only the interactions between atoms and light are quantized)

Unconventional Food for a 3-Day Pooping Marathon?"

Hey Lemmy! I have a rather unusual request that requires your creative thinking. I'm embarking on a 3-day pooping marathon (don't ask why), and I need food suggestions that will maximize my bathroom visits. Feel free to get wild with your ideas! Bonus points if the food also makes me sweat. Let's make this a memorable...
