Skilled programmers can see that Linus is an expert. It works in tech. It probably works in any professional environment - anywhere where skilled people are picking someone highly skilled.

For the average person, we have clearly seen average people suck at picking expert leaders, though it works fine in small groups

Landlords should NOT exist.

There is the Georgism position where rent is discouraged with tax which is set to share out society’s share of the value of limited natural resources

It’s hard to run a civilisation without landlords, since some people are not in a position to buy land and need to borrow it.

psud,

Transit ideally should be partly funded in the reduced road cost. Less so for buses, but imaging you linked exurbs and outer suburbs to the city by rail and a simple one lane each way road, instead of a five lane each way highway

When was the mad cow prion problem in UK beef?

In the United Kingdom, from 1986 to 2015, more than 184,000 cattle were diagnosed with the peak of new cases occurring in 1993.

From en.wikipedia.org/…/Bovine_spongiform_encephalopat…

I grew a bushy beard over 2020, then when masks were recommended I shaved to a moustache

Now 2024, still mo. I like it

psud,

That was my dad in the Navy in the '60s. The rules were you could have facial hair, but if you wanted to go from clean shaven to facial hair you needed permission and you had two weeks to grow it - if it wasn’t good enough you had to shave.

He couldn’t grow a beard in a fortnight. I can’t grow a beard in a fortnight.

So he applied right before going on leave so he would have 4 weeks of leave + 2 weeks to grow the beard, which was sufficient

psud,

If I grow a beard, and wish to satisfy my wife’s preferences, my only choice is a wild beard

That’s a pretty good pun of it was deliberate
