It’s nice to meet all you. I am she/her, can speak Toki Pona and English (non-natively), and locatable on Reddit as MozartWasARed. The links at discord.gg/sEuSSDz6TQ and deviantart.com/…/My-copyright-policy-and-the-impa… are pertinent to me.

What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

I am super sick right now and haven’t eaten much in a few days. It’s getting to the point where I am gonna need to force myself to eat something to keep my strength up but everything just sounds terrible to me right now. I have been subsisting mostly on small glasses of milk and the occasional packet of instant oatmeal....

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I thought ice was for when you have too much of an appetite and want to feel like you’re fulfilling it.

What hobbies help you minimize or avoid navigating commercialism?

By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....

shinigamiookamiryuu,

A turkey, a reference to Thanksgiving in the US which is tomorrow.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

You say that like following Daylight Savings Time is a prerequisite for having a job.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I boycotted Daylight Savings Time, among other things.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

If other people participate in Daylight Savings Time and wonder why other people are going by the original time, that’s the participants’ problem.

Imagine living in a nation that boasts so many freedoms and yet we can’t even refuse to participate in a tradition that requires us to change our clocks.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Let only certain people interact with them who agree to not drag their culture into matters. Some might say dolphins are a living proto-example of this. Some interaction can be good, but then there’s hypercultural exchanges we have with them. And then there will be interspecies scars that will resonate forever. Handle them similar to Antarctica.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I had two friends who used to frequent what was said to be the local debate club. It was the only thing they had in common when they first met, now they’re married. People often see what seems like a complete lack of consensus (for a lack of a better word) between them and they think “wow, are they really going to survive the New Year”. But they show a huge green flag isn’t how synchronized two people are but rather how accepting one is to a shortage of synchronization. There are people who don’t realize this and one issue ruins everything.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Hiccups, I was always told, are when the gases in something release out of it during digestion, like how a hollow carcass in the sea dissolves releases all its bubbles, which if correct, means it’s less a biological function and more a biological response, one that can be avoided by not eating anything hollow or that which contains a mixed chemical content capable of varying forms of interaction, hence the hiccups you might get after drinking certain beverages.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I meant vote Libertarian in the context of the issue OP cares about, I didn’t mean I advocated Libertarians. Jesus guys, anyone here have any respect for individualistic self-determination in democracy?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

We haven’t seen all the upcoming candidates yet, but when in doubt, vote Libertarian.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

No, because that’s the whole point of everyone having their own vote.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Yes, but what I mean is I didn’t expect Reddit to go full Hollywood on the term. It would be like Lemmy gatekeeping the term Lemming. So I then wondered if maybe someone else seized that opportunity.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I’d love to. Which one is it?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Oh… misinterpreted that as just a part of the example, my bad.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I mean I know it’s associated with Reddit, but I didn’t know it was trademarked by them.

shinigamiookamiryuu, (edited )

You technically could, though there are burrows (the Lemmy term for communities) that are better for it, since this one is more for questions.

Remember that if a burrow doesn’t exist that’s to your liking, you could always make one (and I might join).

shinigamiookamiryuu,

I cannot speak for anyone aside from myself, but I would be confident betting on the fact Reddit won’t weaponize if we do as you were asking. I myself enjoy these liberties frequently. I am the world record holder for the most sites having been signed up for (a strange world record some might say, but hey, a landmark is a landmark) and I’ve never come across a place where people complained about acronyms.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

It’s a convoluted anime reference. Shinigami are the Japanese equivalent to reapers and commonly feature in Shintoism which finds its way into anime. “Ookami” and “Ryuu” are anime characters associated with shinigami. I forgot the whole story of my username, but I know I was attempting to copy over from DeviantArt which is a site I use too.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Yes, that makes sense. And relatable in a way.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

What, really? I actually didn’t know this. By who though?

Follow up question: What if my initials are AMA?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

People on Lemmy are referred to as Lemmings, named after the animal, which makes its homes in burrows. One day someone asked what the equivalent here for “subreddit” was and burrows were mentioned and everyone was like “yeah let’s do that”… I still have the reply chain link that shows all that, though the post itself is removed, so on my end that exchange doesn’t show up anymore.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

If nobody has swooped in yet, they probably won’t. At the moment, “AMA” seems like it has kleenex status.
