Gork, to star_wars in A great arcade machine

You can find Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer on Steam. Can’t compete with the arcade experience, but at least you can still play it.

CobblerScholar,

It’s on Switch too

abbadon420, to lemmyshitpost in Will this run GTA 6 and why not?

I don’t care much about gta6, but this pc is a beautiful historic piece. I would love to own something like this

victorz,

Honest question, what would you do with it? Would you use it? If so, for what?

abbadon420,

Frist thing that comes to mind is write a hello world program XD

I’d probably play around with the OS too. Maybe buy a book to help me explore all the “new” features. I recently found an old palmtop computer with an old school touch screen on my parent’s attic. I had lots of fun figuring out how that thing worked and now I’m trying to tweak it.

flambonkscious,

Sopwith, csnipes, scorched earth, the classic worms (before it went shitty), so many neat games

The play mechanics were a lot more frustrating back then, however. Games were punishing

djtech, to linux in I've started building a TUI for Lemmy

For rendering high quality images in the terminal, check out the Kitty graphical protocol. I don’t know if they are any python libraries to use, but I think that they are. P.S. This seems to work well stackoverflow.com/…/how-to-display-graphical-imag…

callyral,
@callyral@pawb.social avatar

does this protocol work for other terminals? such as alacritty, foot, urxvt, or even st (with appropriate patch ofc)?

djtech,

A quick research tells me that there aren’t patches for other emulators, but the protocol seems well described, so making those patches is possible. I could also take a look at Alacritty source code and deicide if I could make this project work.

crunchpaste,
@crunchpaste@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I went with chafa as it’s terminal agnostic and supports various modes.

Then again, I’m not really sure a tui frontend needs high quality image rendering. Earlier I even considered going completely 1bit braille or just ASCII just so that the image doesn’t take all of the focus at the expense of the post body.

As mentioned by another commenter, I believe opening the full image in an external viewer is a much better solution, not to mention easier to implement.

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

You could also look into using sixel. It’s kinda like the kitty protocol but older and terminal agnostic.

Thanks, I’ve only heard of sixel, but never really read into it. Sounds promising.

kariboka,

A suggestion is do it like neofetch and let the user choose. Amazing work.

xarexyouxmadx, to linuxmemes in I am one of you now

I don’t use Arch but if I did id probably go with archinstall. I don’t see the point in going from scratch unless you absolutely need to. I could care less about bragging rights for installing an operating system lol.

Sanyanov, (edited )

I just don’t bother going for archinstall when regular installation “from scratch” takes 5 minutes (or 15, if you do it the first time). It is not scary and extremely simple, contrary to memes. Besides, it makes you understand the processes involved.

Archinstall is just a little, nice helper to shorten and simplify installation even more.

traches,

It’s not about bragging rights, all you do is follow instructions. I just do it that way because I can set everything up exactly how I like it
