My prediction is that we’ll go DNSSEC globally when IPv6 gets mainstream adoption. It sucks how many just don’t care enough.

when IPv6 gets mainstream adoption

At the current speed that would approximately be in 2087.

lolcatnip,

Whoa there, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Chobbes,

The abysmal adoption of DNSSEC is just embarrassing, and I haven’t heard any good arguments for why we shouldn’t do it. There’s one blog post that gets passed around as justification for not adopting DNSSEC, but it doesn’t really go into any technical detail and is mostly just the author saying “I’m scared of governments and TLDs”… which is maybe fair, but you still have to trust them for regular CA certs and everything, so why not make thr base secure?

Honestly, I might care slightly more about DNSSEC than IPv6 adoption… IPv4 exhaustion and NATing everywhere sucks, but the fact that you can’t trust DNS is like… insane.

risencode,

when IPv6 gets mainstream adoption.

After my death then. Alright, carry on.

I work in IT. My boss is by all accounts very competent in both programming and administration, yet all his documentation basically says “remember to set DoTheRightThing=True”

Edit: I just looked up the documentation for an internal service and under “Error recovery” it just says “The output of command xy should make sense”. fml

Damn, I must’ve been missing this in my code the whole time.

Not even joking, I’ve got a project that crashes the MSVC linker with “Internal compiler error occurred” like 1 out of every 5 builds.

r00ty,
@r00ty@kbin.life avatar

Back in the olde days of programming (I'm talking about compilers from the 80s) the coding connoisseur knew that getting a certain error that seemed like nonsense could easily be solved by adding an extra, or removing a remark line from the top of the code and recompiling.

vzq, to memes in The machine is always broken

Funny thing is that over here in Europe the ice cream machines seem to work almost all the time. I understand that it’s because they use a different brand of machines, but I’m not sure about the details.

ji17br,

Canada here, never encountered a broken machine.

EmpathicVagrant,

There they had to change the machines to the other brand because the ones they use here (us) was found to literally be designed to require a ton of maintinence so they could make money charging for repairs.

TLDR machine designed to break breaks a lot, not allowed in Europe.

I don’t even know how that jello is a sauce. It just stays solid even when warmed up. It’s good, but, like… On its own. I usually put it on my dessert plate, not the dinner one.

I like it on a sandwich the most. Piece of turkey, piece of cran log, some stuffing, some gravy, and a bit of sweet potatoes. Mmmmmmm.

Vespair,

I’m with ya. Cranberry sauce is S-tier, and I don’t discriminate between fresh or canned.

Whatever form cranberry sauce comes in, please put it in my mouth

KnightontheSun,

Well, I’ll have to disagree. I’ll only eat the fresh stuff. That gelatinous log is what made me think I hated the stuff. The first year I had fresh was a game changer. That’s all we do now. But to each their own and I hope you have as much gelatinous log as you want.

Lol … DNS is one of the pillars upon which the internets tands, a crumbling mess of a pillar but I’m sure glad we don’t have a name system built on hosts files 😹
