I know it’s not the point of the question, but remember whatever happens is 100% the villain’s fault, not yours.

TokyoMonsterTrucker, to memes in Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

I have never successfully run any piped video on any platform. Literally every pipedbot post has been worthless, at best, and usually actively frustrating as I’d actually use an alternative youtube frontend.

Dear pipedbots: blow me. Dear ReVanced: ❤️

Worked fine for a month then nothing on every instances

I use Invidious now and it have a button to swich instances in case it buffering too long

luciferofastora,

Yeah, if you’ll advertise a service like that, it should work already. Otherwise, odds are I (and other people too, probably) will click it two or three times, then give up. If I see future links, I’ll remember that it didn’t work, be biased to not even try anymore, and potentially never notice if it actually did improve and start working.

It’s a common FOSS / Privacy-respecting-service issue, where someone will create something out of ideology, but the result will have poor usability, and unless you’re really really invested into the ideology yourself, you’ll probably stop using it because your free time is too precious to spend on getting frustrated over stuff that works poorly.

I feel the FOSS / Privacy Alternatives community needs to learn the lesson many bic companies have learned already or are learning now, that the quality of the User Experience is important in retaining people. Ideology can get them to try, but functionality and ease of use will keep them from running back to Google et al.

TokyoMonsterTrucker,

I just fired it up a new Piped instance to see if it would work. Result: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/pictrs/image/90cab0bf-2d7f-40d4-ac56-9c84d50171d7.png

God this bot sucks.

Kecessa,

Same experience, not from a lack of trying but I finally blocked the bot this week.

TokyoMonsterTrucker,

I blocked it about 2 weeks ago. Best decision I’ve made on Lemmy

TheFriar,

YES. What the fuck piped? Work and I’ll use you.

Solvent or solute depending on concentration. The drink however is a solution.

I missed the balling is living transformation, at one time balling here either meant having sex or injecting cocaine…oh wait

GarbageShoot,

I think balling for playing basketball is pretty old slang too

lemmie689,
@lemmie689@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Sure, Im just familiar with those two from maybe 20 years prior. When I first heard it used to refer to bball or athletics in general, first thing that came to my mind was cocaine use, injecting is pretty intense I hear. I knew a guy but never have have tried myself.

To be fair that rule is almost lost, only the autocorrect still adds the initial ?

Just like how in Dutch the second quotation mark is supposed to be on the bottom. But I don't even know how to do that on the computer.

margaritox,

In Slavic languages too

joranvar,

The opening quotation marks should be on the bottom, but it’s been a while since I wrote them that way. Luckily, the wiki page (in Dutch) shows how they can be entered in three common OSes (see: unicode), so I’ll try my best to revive the correct usage again.

Also, I don’t think it is considered incorrect to use top quotation marks on a computer any longer.

wischi,

Also in German. Word autocorrects that for example.

bdonvr,

In informal text perhaps, but in publications and such it’s still used.

More technically, alcohol is a solvent…

on July 12th he [Elon Musk] shared probably the only thing he remembers from highschool chemistry. Also its wrong.

fossilesque,
@fossilesque@mander.xyz avatar

Good thing I’m not a chemist. 😅

Telodzrum,

It’s both, you’re mixing different phylogenies. Any alcohol prepared for consumption is a solution of water, ethanol, and various other substances (almost all water or alcohol soluble). Ethanol in aqueous solution is also a strong solvent (pure ethanol is a less effective solvent, but a solvent nonetheless).

Bebo,

So it’s a solution that can be a solvent.

Maoo,
@Maoo@hexbear.net avatar

Alcohol refers to an alcoholic drink (like the martini held by this sophisticated cat). Water and ethanol (99% of these drinks) are miscible, so are always at least a solution with one another. The additional flavor compounds that make drinks different from one another tend to be in solution as well.
