That paper is the scientific version of the old Tom Leherer song!

sbonds, to selfhosted in rsync speed goes down over time

I’ve had some luck establishing the bottleneck using strace on both the sender side and receiver side. This will show if the sending rsync is waiting on local reads or remote writes and if the receiving rsync is waiting on network reads or local writes.

This helps find the specific resources to check.

They need to make graphs of the social relationships of every major social group. For science

Hmm, I think large corporations should never be allowed to purchase residences though anyone is allowed to create a corporation in the US you’ll just need to declare a CEO, COO, and a treasurer. This could be a simple mom-and-pop family business with 3-4 people/employees, this could prevent a lot of normal people/small business owners struggling to create a profit from purchasing workspaces, their own home, work equipment.

no real estate taxes for the first house owned, heavy and progressive taxes starting on the second, is an idea

companies get called people all the time, i’m starting to believe it, but i still think they don’t need shelter, so they shouldn’t be able to aquire a basic human need

glitch1985,

I have a feeling they’d just pass those taxes onto the renters.

I wonder how many lied

essteeyou, (edited )

They’d have to lie about who they slept with, and I expect the other person might have something to say about that if it was not true.

I wonder if they verified each claim from both sides.

Edit: it’s a scientific paper, so there’s no need to wonder!

In fig. 2, and in all discussions presented here, all romantic and sexual relationship nominations linking students are included, whether or not the nomination from i to j was reciprocated with a nomination from j to i.

Oh, so there was no bullshit filter

rimjob_rainer, (edited )

Then it’s certainly mostly bullshit. Male students tend to massively exaggerate when they tell stories about how many sexual relationships they had. Source: I was a male student.

There is not nearly as much gay sex on this chart as I would’ve guessed. Just the one bi girl hookup in the second from the right tree at the top. Actually is that a threesome or do you think they just all screwed at different points in time?

ProfessorOwl_PhD,
@ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net avatar

There’s a gay hookup on the branches just to the left, too.

Well it is a 20 year old study. Attitudes towards LGBT people were much less accepting back then. The participants in this study are now between the ages of 34-38 most likely. Probably a lot of people in the closet and keeping their relationships discreet or not having relationships, and some that haven’t realised that they’re gay yet.

If you did this study today, there would be a lot more gay sex, but probably less than we’d guess still. LGBT people are still a minority after all.

Liz, (edited )

The relationships were from 1993-1995. Everyone in the graph is in their late 40s. So everything you said about attitudes is probably just more true.

A missed opportunity to arrange the graph in an artistic fashion. 😹
